Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

Booking a throwaway room would in essence booking over your purchased media with a plan (although no longer possible) to book extra FPs with additional magicbands, that's the point isn't it? I'm not advocating one way or another just stating what would or wouldn't work.

I'm having trouble parsing to tell what you are trying to say here... :)

Booking a throwaway room does not provide extra FPs. That's not what it is about. It allows booking at the 60 day window, instead of the 30 day window.

just curious, does anyone think this is WRONG to book a room, then just don't go or cancel, just to get magic bands for free???? Somehow I think it's not the thing to do. If you want the free magic bands, then book the rooms at the hotel for your vacation. Is this just another loophole for people to take advantage of til it is stopped by Disney? Just wondering if I am the only one who thinks it is somehow wrong? Iknow, I know, I'll get a lot of "if they let us, why not?" But the question is, why not??? It is an incentive for those who book their vacations onsite, that's all. I just think it's not right for people to book a room or camp site with NO intention of staying there, just to get a free band????? flame, flame!

Although there are people who probably do do this to get the bands, the bands really aren't terribly useful in and of themselves without actually staying in the resort. Sure, they can get you in to the park and utilize FP+ - but then so will the original park ticket.

About the only "plus" of the MB would be the automatic ride pictures/video - when it works - but that's only if you get the MemoryMaker package I believe. And I think that gets you a magicband as well.

Beyond that, you can't use it to get into the room if you don't go to it, you can't charge to the room unless you've checked in and set up the account, etc.

The real reason people would book the throwaway rooms is for the _extra_ perks that have little to do with the magicband directly.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I guess I just didn't understand it:)

I tried looking through this thread for my answer, but with so much arguing, etc. back and forth I wasn't able to find what I was looking for. I do have a room booked for one night that we are not going to stay in. We chose to do this in the hopes of getting Anna and Elsa FP+, but were unable to do so even with booking right when they became available online. However, the other reason was that we were basically breaking even with the cost of 4 magic bands and 2 days of parking for an $80 room at a value resort.

On to my question...I was wondering if the only thing that we would have to do in person is show up early the morning of check-in to pick up our parking pass? We have already received our magic bands, and I think we should be able to do online check-in. We plan to stop at our value resort on our way to the MK early that morning. How busy do you think the reception desk will be at that time of morning?

Thanks!

LOL, that's exactly how I will be.
Thanks so much for this info.
I would love it if you could PM me when you return to let me know how it all worked out for you.
Are you doing on line check in?
Would also be interested to find out if you got the free parking.

Anyway, have a great vacation and please let us know how it all went with the throwaway room :thumbsup2

Thanks,

Karen:)

I think it will work just fine.

One more midnight call for my 8th day of FPs tonight.

I have already done "online check in".

But I am from the great white north (Canada) so Disney won't mail me our MBs. So I have to "check in" to pick them up.

My plan is to drop my wifey and the kids at Blizzard Beach, they will use their card tickets for entry and then I will go to Fort Wilderness to check in and collect all 9 of our bands. Our friends don't get in until 8 pm and will just go straight to the house we have rented.

Here's a post from earlier where I broke down the benefit of the throwaway room for our family.

Paying about $60 for the campsite, we received these benefits:

-2 days of free parking for check-in and check-out day ($34 value)
-5 magic bands for our family ($64.75 plus tax)
-60 day FP+ booking window for the full length of our trip, not just the campsite days
-option to purchase a BOG FP+ lunch
-option to use EMH (we followed easyWDW touring plans, so we actively avoided EMH, but to each his own)

It should be explained that this 60 day window is not the same as when you book an entire stay. This only allows it on a rolling 60 days- which puts a significant dent in the ability to get the most sought after fp+'s.

On this, only for the check in- check out dates. Not the full length of the trip.

You can add Dining reservations for 180+10 as well.

Well, I have gotten everything except A&E which I consider a win and much better than I would be likely to get at 30 days.

I will add I booked my FPs based on building optimized Touring Plans for each park, each day. So I had specific time windows I wanted each FP in, to maximize it's benefit and minimize my time in line. My selection is siginificantly better at 60 days than it would be at 30 days.

You should jump in those threads where people are staying 4-6 days complaining they can't get anything because the longer stays are eating up all the fp's.

Wow having been to WDW 50+ times one would think I would know all of this. There's a whole underworld to Disney. That's an awful lot of work. As someone who has used a time share for most of these visits I chose to start staying onsite for the last 3 trips. I like the ease of it. I'm not in a cramped room either; I stay in the DVC villas. I can easily understand where some people who save and pay their way through the Disney onsite visits would be upset with those who choose to circumvent the system. To each his own I just prefer to be honest. Plus, that's too much dang work.

Um, SDFP+ *same day fp+* are available with unlinked MBs, I have a campsite booked *I will not cancel it* with four "ghost" guests, with their MBs DD and I will get an additional 6 each SDFP+ per day *in addition to the three per day I've already selected ~ spending 10/15-10/25 at AOA, LM room :cutie:

This is a great thread - http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3245463

Now THAT's a loophole. It shouldn't be letting MBs not associated with a ticket that was used to enter the parks access FP+ at all. I expect that will be fixed, just like the similar loophole with the original FP years ago...

That's what I was referring to when I said something a few pages back about fake names to get extra fps. Everyone indicated I was making it up. Thanks for proving my words; I wasn't going to go through a lengthy argument to justify what I wrote. As I said to each his own.

You are assuming there will be that many FPs available the day of at park kiosks? :confused3

Now THAT's a loophole. It shouldn't be letting MBs not associated with a ticket that was used to enter the parks access FP+ at all.

There's a huge thread on this forum telling people in great detail how to stack up bands to get sdfp and openly admitting to cancelling their reservations- quite proud of it in fact. Some people are going in with a backpack full.

Had we wanted to do that we'd have a ton-

Had our first trip- 4 bands, but 1 was for under 3 so there's 1 extra. Plus we all got ap's- that's 4 more, just don't link them to MDE. 2nd trip- 6 bands- don't link them and since 2 people that were going, can't and 1 is still under 3, we'll only really need 3.

My gosh, the math....that's 8 extra magic bands we can do sdfp with. Right? Add that to what wonders we can do with our baby swap and I don't think there's enough hours in the day to use it all.

Imagine if I booked a throwaway campsite for 10- limitless possibilities.

I read on another forum where someone is actually doing it for profit- renting a campsite, then "selling" reservations spots for a fee to up to 10 people.

As with all of this, Disney could fix it anytime they choose. They made a system with more holes than swiss cheese.

Honestly, I don't know why you'd need extra bands- the day is only so long and there are only so many rides that even need a fp. We never found a time that we could've made real use of an extra band- and we had one right there with us. And this was with the parks packed.

Sometimes, I just shake my head and wonder ***....
