Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

No, I don't think you will lose your FP+ if you don't check-in. The parking I'm not sure about though.

Just my opinion, but I think this is a complete unknown. We're physically checking in just in case. Also, I don't know if they're still giving paper parking passes, but I'd rather have one. I don't have complete trust in magic bands just yet. ;)

Thank you again to everyone and most recently to jimandami, and itchin2go :worship:

With all the confusion and unknowns, I'm just wondering if there may be someone who's already done this (booked a throwaway room) recently and can report back here on how everything went.

For me, the biggest unknown would be, if you don't physically check in will you lose your FP's

Thanks again to everyone who has held my hand and made me feel better about this whole process

I don't believe anyone has ever reported losing FP+s after canceling a reservation - even less have reported about losing them if they don't check in. :)

That said, since this isn't something that they specifically _support_, you never know if they will change things.

At any rate, FP+ selections aren't tied to a reservation. The reservation simply enables the 60 day window. Since you'd be well within the 30-day window by the time your reservation check-in time comes up, there isn't really a reason for them to cancel them.

Phewwww, well that makes me feel a lot better :thumbsup2

I think all this is true. Here's the issue I have: People have reported losing their FP+ reservations out of the clear blue sky. They didn't cancel anything. They didn't change anything. They just woke up one day and poof, they were gone. For that reason, I sure don't want to do anything that *could* trigger something negative. That would completely negate the point of booking (and paying for) the throwaway room.

If I completely trusted how things work, it would be different. Anyway, that's just me. I don't want to be the harbinger of doom, but I'm just thinking: better safe than sorry. :)

On the up side, think of the delight when other people find those surprise "hard to get" FPs that show up for someone else then.

Hey, maybe that's the "surprise and delight" part of this we heard so much about early on. ;)

Someone, PLEASE tell me I have done this correctly, meaning that I understand the concept of the throwaway room.

We have 5 day park tickets. We are arriving Feb 22, staying off site, and will begin to hit the parks on Feb 23. I booked a throwaway room (campsite) for 1 night, for the night of Feb 23.

So if I understand this correctly, I should be able to make FP selections beginning 60 days before the campsite reservation date of Feb 23, and then will be able to continue to book, one day at a time, 60 days out for the remainder of our 5 day tickets.
Is this correct? I was so sure it was, now reading other FP threads I'm not sure.

Thanks so much for any help/clarification,

Karen :)

Karen,

I can confirm that this is exactly how it works.

I have a throw away campsite reservation for November 6th.

At the 60 day window I booked FPs for check in and check out day. Currently I am booking additional FPs each night (at midnight) for the remainder of my days.

We are down there for 10 days with 8 days of tickets. I am currently half done booking my FPs.

Kind of a pain having to do it each day, but better than doing it at 30 days out. I am sure I don't need to be doing it at midnight for some of my days, but my OCD won't let me stop! LOL

Thanks so much for this info.
I would love it if you could PM me when you return to let me know how it all worked out for you.
Are you doing on line check in?
Would also be interested to find out if you got the free parking.

Anyway, have a great vacation and please let us know how it all went with the throwaway room :thumbsup2

Thanks,

Karen:)

OW! This is all too much... what happened to the 'magic.' :confused3

I totally agree. People are blaming Disney for all this, but, I disagree. I bet they hadn't considered 10% of what people are coming up with to get around things.
Disney isn't killing the Magic, guests are with their strategies and talk of doing the parks commando style. But, if that is how you want to plan and spend your vacation that's up to you.

Thank you! People are flipping out over this, and honestly I have been twice since FP+ started (Marathon Weekend and Expedition Everest Weekend which was also Flower & Garden AND while not technically a Star Wars Weekend, over May 4 - so neither was exactly a slow time). I was on CM comp tickets, so I was unable to link those to my Magic Band in advance. And I had ZERO issues getting anything I wanted. Granted, I wasn't interested in Elsa and Anna (love Frozen, but they really need to tweak Elsa's hair - it is NOT white in the movie but a very platinum blonde) and the Mine Train wasn't open. But honestly I had no issues at all.

I agree 100% it is people who think commando is the only way to go and don't want to or are too afraid to leave some things to chance who are ultimately the ones taking the magic out of it for everyone.

Oh, and FWIW, my cousin took her daughter and stayed off-site at an even buyer time than I was there - and was able to get a FP+ for Elsa and Anna while she was there. So yes, it CAN happen.

Couldn't agree more.

If you were able to go and get "everything you wanted" during your trip, I'm not sure why hyper-planners and commandos are "taking the magic out of it for everyone"?. Sounds like you can ignore everything and be happy as a clam. Not sure how everyone's excessive planning is bothering you, but perhaps I'm not following...

How is this killing the magic? Please explain. Personally being able to get all the FPs I was hoping for, and being able to stay in a huge 1200sq. foot condo for 120 a night is truly magical!:wizard::wizard:

For people who simply skirt the rules to get what they want, no big issue with me. It's the "Me" types who hoard the fps and ADRs that take the magic out of things. You know, the type who brag about multiple dinners at BOG or seeing A&E or fps for the SDMT every day while others can't get any, wow, what happened to common courtesy? I just think when people are that uptight about having the PERFECT trip they tend to take the fun out of it for others.

If people want to eat at BOG 3 times and go on 7DMT every day of their trip- how is this a problem? They booked their meals and their FPs fair and square. Are people really saying/thinking that you should only be able to book 1 FP/ADR per ride/restaurant per trip? I don't see this as stealing the magic at all. We are all working under the same rules/regs. We book ADRs at 180+10 and FPs at 60 days out at midnight (1am)....everyone has the same chance. If someone wants BOG 3 times they have every right to book it and to eat dinner there. I see absolutely no issue with this at all.

IF they booked them fair and square like everyone else and didn't book a fake room they didn't have any intention of using for the purpose of getting a jump on everyone else or using multiple wristbands and fake names it wouldn't be an issue.

edit to add: then everyone would get a shot at it.

Multiple wristbands with fake names? How do you do that? Don't you have to have tickets attached to your MDE to book FPs? So are there people buying and using 2 entrance tickets to get into the parks and get 6 FPs instead of 3???

No idea where the multiple magicbands with fake names come from. A ticket would still need to be associated with the band _and used_ to enter the park. Costs real extra money to do it.

As for booking a "fake" room...there are no fake rooms to book*. They are booking a real room, paying for it any everything - they just aren't sleeping in it. Disney still gets paid - and they don't need to clean the room.

Now, for those that book to get the 60 day window, and then cancel - well, THAT's not very fair. The thing is, you know why Disney introduced MyMagic+? Data...lots of it. And one of those data items they can easily see is guests who repeatedly book rooms, book FP+s, cancel the rooms, but still use the FP+s...they could block habitual abusers if they wanted. Or change it for everyone. If they wanted.

* Disney could make lots of extra free income if they created a "fake room" class, to enable earlier FP+ selection, for a price close to that of a value room, without any expense at all. Because people apparently will actually pay for it for just 30 more days...

You cannot get fastpass+ unless a ticket is attached to the MDE account.
