Dinner was HOW MUCH?! Don’t tell your Dad!-A Princess Half Marathon Trip!-Newx2 11/21

Ahhhh! I just found you! I ran the PHM for my first half marathon this February! I'm already planning for the GSC in 2015. Can't wait to read all about it, I have a TR going as well! Off to read! :thumbsup2

Subbing! I did the 10K as well (though not the half ;)) and thought it was an awesome race! As it was only my second race ever I didn't have much to compare it to, but it was a blast!

Your time was amazing!! I didn't come close to that time without stopping for character meets (although I did have to change to a walk/run strategy when my calves seized up around mile 4.5). And I love that you look so happy in all the photos -I mean, that's the point, isn't it?? :)

Thanks so much for such an in-depth report, it brought back all the memories and was like reliving the race :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear your report on the half - thinking of doing that next year

Oh that's kind of cool with the "Throwaway clothing". You can wear it to start and not have to worry about carrying it around. And have it go to charity. I like it!

Holy hell that's a lot of porta potties.

OMG that was a guy in the Minnie costume???? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

How cool to run through World Showcase. AND JIMINI!!!!!!!

Seriously MY GOD the character meets!! It's almost worth doing a race JUST for the character meets!!

Congrats on finishing your very first RunDisney race Jess. Loved all the details and photos of the experience.

Your Jasmine costume is adorable! I love seeing people share their Disney running costumes, it's so cute to see what people put together!

As someone who will likely NEVER do any race, it's a lot of fun to read about your experience & see your photos! It's great that they have so many character opportunities, including such rare ones. You did great on time, and got to meet so many awesome characters! Sounds like a great morning!

Wow, that’s so cool that Jeff Galloway was there! And I love that he dressed up as Mickey. Your costume is adorable! :thumbsup2

I’m not sure I’ve seen that many portapotties all added together in my whole life, much less at once. :rotfl:

That Elsa setup is incredible.

I’ve only recently gotten started in running, but I would just love to run a Disney race someday, if only for the experience. The energy and atmosphere must be amazing.

I love the picture with Tiana, Naveen and Louis! I’ve never seen Louis before, or Sports Goofy. How cute! You look so happy in all the pictures. Great update!!!

It was awesome to hear him speak for a few minutes before the race and I loved his costume!

Haha I thought the same thing, so many. Obvs had to take a picture :rotfl:

I literally couldn't believe what I was seeing it was SO magical.

If you get the opportunity DO IT! You won't regret it, there's nothing else like it!

Thank you! I was pumped all three of them were out at one. And Goofy was adorable.

Your Jasmine outfit looks AWESOME! Right down to the accessories and hair, you nailed it.

LOVE the Elsa and Olaf announcers!

So awesome that you got to meet Jiminy!

It's awesome how happy you look in all the race photos. You can tell you're having the time of your life!

WINTER SWEATER ON BELLE. WINTER. SWEATER. ON. BELLE. AHHHHHHH!!! I want to meet her! Unfortunately I usually go in the summer so that seems unlikely.

Aww thank you! That was a winter long project finding everything for it!

So adorable and fitting since there were so many Elsa and Olaf's in the running field as well.

Oh my gosh I was, it was so fun.

Haha I thought you may like that! She looked so beautiful I was in love!

Your snow pics look like ours. I am so ready for spring.
That is bizarre someone dented your car with their body.
That is nice security lines.
I would be scared hearing “Is there a doctor onboard” but I would be more scared if I heard” is there a mechanic onboard”. LOL.
I would have taken the deal. I never get asked for something like that. I would definitely jump on it.
I thought all Disney resorts had lots of kids. LOl.
Great location for the room. Love that area.
Wishes in a building. LOl.
Nice rides you rode. Wishing I was there right now.
Love the pic of the entrance to NFL.
Sounds like a great night.
Oh the 50’s pool. The laundry room cracks me up when I see it. Don’t do laundry late at night is all I will say.
I might be doing the race next year. We shall see.
Nice pic you had taken for Instagram.
Too bad you didn’t get the shoes.
Nice loot you got from the expo.
I love on Spaceship Earth the burning smell. There was a fire today I think in Staten island but the wind was blowing the smoke and smell this way and it just reminded me of SE.
The margarita looked good.
I do not think I have ever seen them perform.
YUM! Chefs de France one of my faves. Love the mac n cheese and the escargot.
Funny how you got to the Hess station.
Nice outfit.
What a fun and fantastic time you had during the race. Congrats!!!!!

We finally got some spring this past week, it's heaven!
Yeah I was so not impressed.
That's true but it was still like a scary scene out of a movie!
I know I probably should have but I just wanted to get to Disney so bad.
I'm pretty sure they do, ya know cause its Disney World haha, crazy people.
The whole night at the MK was so magical I was in heaven!
You should definitely do it! I loved the race experience so much.
The expo was the best thing ever, I can't wait to go again.
Haha I love that burning smell too, so classic.
That margarita was seriously the best.
Thank you, it was such a fun race and even funner to run it in costume!

What a fun afternoon & evening at Epcot! Love all your pictures of the topiaries! Bummer that you only got to ride Soarin once this trip. Such a smart idea bringing the dolly to load up on necessities!

Yay race day! Your costume looks fabulous :thumbsup2

Elsa! How cool!

Love your picture with the White Rabbit, the cards in the background are such a nice touch.

Running through World Showcase really must've been magical!

You got pictures with so many wonderful characters, I love them all!

And I love that picture with Lumiere & Genie, that looks so cool.

You don't look silly at all, you look so happy, which you should've been! Such a wonderful accomplishment :goodvibes CONGRATS!

I need to go back when Flower and Garden is fully up, I loved the flowers and toparies, so pretty!

THe dolly was a good idea but it was so funny getting that thing back up to our room, we definitely got some looks.

Thank you! I'm so happy with how it cam out.

Elsa was hands down the best part of the race, so smart of them to put her on the overpass so everyone could see her, if she was meeting the line would have been insane.

I loved how at the character stops not in the parks they added the backgrounds, they were great!

Haha well thank you! They were a nice change from my normal race pictures that I just look like I'm in pain!

Glad your room location worked out - super great how close your mom would be able to be!

Fun evening at EPCOT - relaxing in World Showcase with an adult beverage has to be a top 4 thing in the world to do!

That has to be a really interested feeling to arrive before 4am and see everything set up and music going, etc. I could see a mixture of interest and excitement, but perhaps with a bit of creepiness thrown in :rotfl:

Love that Disney knows people will want pictures of certain things and have it organized.

That is also cool they have the "donation" box for unwanted clothes - makes total sense and turns an issue of "where do I put my stuff" into a positive.

Holy Porta Potty inventory Batman! That is a lot of movable johns!

Gotta love it - what other races are kicked off by the Fairy Godmother and have Elsa and snow!

That's awesome they had the torches lit. BTW - I assume the 16 min/mile you have to maintain includes time waiting to meet characters - so if you plan to do a bit of character meeting you really need to be faster than that, right?

That's bizarre with that running blasting non-PG music with no headphones. Even if it was PG - no one wants to hear your music ... put some headphones in!

well to be fair to you mom, it's not like you were dressed in a specific outfit that would stand out or anything ;)

BTW - how did the "Marathon photo" work? Did you have to keep track of where you were at what time or did they match it to a chip in your shoes?

Glad you enjoyed the race ... you certainly look happy in all the running photos!

(oh, and sorry about all the questions, just find it all very interesting and if there is ever anything that would get me running it is the prospect of running a race in Disney World :rotfl: )

I don't think we could have asked for a better location, it was perfect!

Surprisingly it was the first time I'd done that, but its definitely a must do from now on. Those margaritas were so good.

Haha it was definitely surreal because it was so early.

I know right, leave it to Disney to have someone whose job is to organize picture taking.

So many porta potties but awesome that there were no waits.

So amazing being sent off by her and Elsa was the BEST!

I haven't seen those lit except for Illuminations in forever, or maybe I just have a bad memory but it was really cool. Yes, 16min/mile includes any character meeting times/lines so plan according with that time limit.

I hate when people run with no headphones, I think its rude to be honest.

Typical my Mom looking in the opposite direction I would be coming in. She's a people watcher I can't blame her too much I guess.

They actually identify all your photos by your bib number. I was amazed all of mine were listed under my bib number I didn't have to look through the unidentified photos at all.

No worries, ask away! I had so many questions before i did my first RunDisney race and it's always good to get them answered before you go so you know what to expect!

Wonderful race report! Great costume!! That smile on your face (the whole time) amazing!!!

Thank you so much! I'm so happy how the costume turned out and it was really fun to run in! Haha that was definitely the funnest race I've EVER done.

Thank you so much, it was so fun to run in and make.

The race was so much fun, I loved all the character stops, the spectators, the volunteers. It was fabulous! It was such a great morning and I did it all before I normally would have even gotten up :rotfl:

Oh that's kind of cool with the "Throwaway clothing". You can wear it to start and not have to worry about carrying it around. And have it go to charity. I like it!

Holy hell that's a lot of porta potties.

Seriously MY GOD the character meets!! It's almost worth doing a race JUST for the character meets!!

Congrats on finishing your very first RunDisney race Jess. Loved all the details and photos of the experience.

It's a great idea, because you want to have something on while you are waiting around but I didn't want to carry it the whole time. LOVED that they got donated :thumbsup2

So many porta potties

Yes that is a guy! Yellow shoes and everything, I thought maybe he lost a bet or something.

World Showcase was awesome, the music blaring, the touches, it was great. I'm so glad I spotted him I almost missed him

Seriously, I didn't even stop for them all and I thought it was worth it!

Thank you! It was really fun to share!

Subbing! I did the 10K as well (though not the half ;)) and thought it was an awesome race! As it was only my second race ever I didn't have much to compare it to, but it was a blast!

Welcome! pixiedust:

I loved the 10k so much. I loved the half too but 10k is my distance and I was really able to get out there and run hard and still have a ton of fun. Congrats on finishing the 10k!

Thank you very much I was really happy with that time with all the stops I made. That a bummer your calves weren't behaving : ( Haha so happy, much different than my typical race photo where I look like death.

I'm so glad you liked it, I wanted to share it all without being boring!

You should do it, just think of the half as being twice as fun ;)

Ahhhh! I just found you! I ran the PHM for my first half marathon this February! I'm already planning for the GSC in 2015. Can't wait to read all about it, I have a TR going as well! Off to read! :thumbsup2

Welcome! pixiedust:

Do it do it, the GSC was so much fun. Tiring but fun. I'm planning on doing GSC again in 2015 and my Mom's going to try the 10K!

Love, love, love your costume!! We seriously were like right across from each other in the corral- how funny!

Your marathonphotos look great- sort of make me wish I purchased. I'm jealous that you stopped for Tiana, Naveen and Louie- there line was a little long when we went by so we didn't bother.

Congrats on an awesome finish time! :cheer2:

I just stumbled upon your trip report and I am locked in. I'm looking to do the WDW marathon next year and I love reading all of the rundisney trip reports.

Sorry if already asked/answered... where did you get your running costumes? They were adorable!

I love your TR...I feel like I'm finally learning about the races, I don't know how I didn't before! Now I have a goal!!

How did you rent dvc points?

Thank you so much! And we really were trip twins!

They were expensive but I'm glad I got them, most of the time my race photos look like crap but these ones were good so I went for it. I actually bought the expo special certificate on Saturday when I saw how many photographers were out for the 10k/

I loved seeing them, they were great. The line was fast it was worth it!

Thank you! I paid for it a bit the next day

I love your Jasmine costume! Really enjoying your TR. Nice time for the 10k!

Thank you! I'm so happy with how it turned out and it was comfy. pixiedust:

Just found your TR!

Welcome! pixiedust: Thank you for reading along with me!

I just stumbled upon your trip report and I am locked in. I'm looking to do the WDW marathon next year and I love reading all of the rundisney trip reports.

Welcome! pixiedust:

Congrats on committing to the marathon that's amazing! Reading other trip reports were the best way to prepare for the race, it was much better knowing what to expect!

Sorry if already asked/answered... where did you get your running costumes? They were adorable!

I purchased the running skirts from Sparkleskirts.com and then I made the tops myself. I purchased a sports bra and a t-shirt for a base and then just went to town with ribbon, lace and a glue gun haha.

Thank you so much I'm really happy with how they turned out!

I love your TR...I feel like I'm finally learning about the races, I don't know how I didn't before! Now I have a goal!!

How did you rent dvc points?

I just found out about them last year, I was surprised I'd never really heard about them before either. They are fabulous as a goal to work towards!

I rented them right here on the DisBoards in the DVC Rental section. It was super easy and I would do it again!

A Wild Morning!

After I showered and got ready for the day, we headed down to get some breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery. I’m not a big eater after I’m done running, especially in the heat and humidity so I just had a bagel and my Mom had a cinnamon bun if I’m not mistaken.

Ok so here it goes my one complaint about the Boardwalk. I do wish they had a traditional quick service restaurant available for eggs and mickey waffles in the morning. The Boardwalk Bakery is delicious but Mickey Waffles would have really hit the spot.

We finished breakfast and headed down to the bus stops, we jumped on a bus to Animal Kingdom and made stops at the Swan and Dolphin before heading to the park.

We took some photopass pictures before entering

The photographer was this little Asian lady who barely spoke English, she was so adorable. She kept asking me how far I ran and when I told her see was so impressed. She kicked my Mom out of the shot to get a picture of me “running”

wdw201405347664247_zpsc0feb8a1.jpeg

She was so cute and totally made my day.

The park was already open when we got there but I had booked us FP+s for the Safari first thing so we headed over there first. There was a 40min standby wait so I was happy to jump in the FP line and head directly to the trucks!

IMG_1511_zpsac3f6a79.jpg

I’m not sure what was going on this morning but we had to wait forever for the truck to pull up. At the end of the ride we waited forever to unload, I’m not sure what was going on.

Finally our ride arrived

And we were off on our 2 week Safari, who’s ready for some animal pictures?

I won’t share them all because let’s be real we’ve all seen them but here’s a few favorites

The male lion was looking quite majestic this morning

Overall we had a great safari, we saw a ton of animals and we had a fabulous guide. The day was off to a good start.

Next up we decided to walk the Pagini Trail since we were right there.

Not much was happening along this morning until we hit the hippo enclosure

IMG_1526_zps3d009b02.jpg

There was actually a hippo feeding right up against the glass!

IMG_1527_zpsaeee7c94.jpg

Eating and checking out the mini humans.

IMG_1529_zps2a1c3423.jpg

IMG_1533_zps525c5fc7.jpg

This was seriously the coolest thing ever

IMG_1535_zps5a57b5e2.jpg

There was some lady behind my Mom pushing her and saying excuse me excuse me and my Mom was just like “I’m looking wait your turn!” The lady stalked off so unimpressed. But it’s like really?! Since when is it ok to push, we didn’t even stand there that long before moving on.

Anyways, it was super cool seeing the hippos up close like that. I was almost convinced the hippos I’d normally see way off in the tank “sleeping” were just some old hippos from the Jungle Cruise haha.

Next up was the Gorillas. The two you can see first behind the glass were being adorable. There was a big crowd in front of them though so we didn’t get a chance to get in and see them.

IMG_1536_zpsdbc1a4ab.jpg

We saw this lovely lady in the outdoor portion

IMG_1538_zps81f39c4f.jpg

Looks like this guy had a rough night

We started wandering over towards Asia next.

We stopped and took some Photopass pictures

wdw201405347608265_zpsf2470c7a.jpeg

My Mom wasn’t keen on trying Everest yet so we headed over to Dinosaur and did that instead. The wait said 25min so we used our FP+ but we didn’t need it, it was a walk on.

IMG_1539_zps463ff5bf.jpg

Mrs. Huxtable!

IMG_1541_zps63db3d09.jpg

Here’s another gem of a Dinosaur ride photo to add to the collection haha.

wdw201405347622610_zpsd7e9d7e2.jpeg

It started raining when we got off Dinosaur so we decided to head over and see Finding Nemo the Musical next

IMG_1543_zpse43ef9ae.jpg

I think we waited around 20mins until showtime, but I was just happy for the break. My legs were a bit tired.

IMG_1544_zps3d332910.jpg

IMG_1545_zps8df06ad8.jpg

I do like this show but it’s not my favorite on property. The music is great but its not the classic Disney songs I grew up like Beauty and the Beast or lion King Shows. I also think it’s a tad long, but Nemo’s a long movie so I get why it’s so long.

Overall we really enjoyed the show and it was a good break from the rain and walking.

After the show let out we went in search of some lunch. We decided to hit up Restaurosaus because my Mom’s a bit picky and nothing else really appealed to her. We had an early dinner reservation coming up so we just split and adult chicken nugget. It was delicious and really hit the spot.
When we finished up it was pouring! It was crazy so we waited out the storm in the restaurant until it stopped.

We had missed our FP+ reservation for Everest while we having lunch but my Mom said she didn’t really want to go anyways so I decided to just go through the single rider line.

People from the standby line were not focused, shocking I know, so they put me and the kid behind me in the single rider line in the same car.

He was hilarious. I was almost glad my Mom hadn’t come with me haha.

He said this was his 15th ride of the day, he just kept going around and around. He did have to stop after ride 10 for some food but then he went right back to it haha.

IMG_1550_zpse6afc05a.jpg

Mr. Chatty Kathy chatted with me the whole ride, which was hard for me because I do my fair amount of screaming, hopefully he didn’t take it personally haha.

wdw201405347668560_zpsb7d2a3ab.jpeg

Here’s our ride photo, notice the look on the girls face behind us. Bahahaha.

I bid goodbye to my new friend after the ride and met up with my Mom.
I don’t have any pictures for the rest of our afternoon because it was so rainy but I’ll give you a quick recap.

It started raining again so we went and saw the Flights of Wonder show. I had never seen this show before but I actually really enjoyed it. The birds are amazing and its just the right amount of corny.

A few minutes after we left the show it started pouring so we headed out of the park. We had done everything we wanted to do anyways and we needed to go back and freshen up before dinner.

Stay Tuned!

Going to start reading! I already subscribed! :] reading your OP I knew this was going to be a "wicked awesome" trip report because I am from Maine too! Woo hoo! I live in southern Maine. :] can't wait to read your trip report!

Joining in!

Really enjoying your report. Your costumes are darling. Great job on them. The GSC is on my list of runDisney races I want to do one day. Love all your pictures.

Well done on your race, your outfit was so cute :thumbsup2
Aww the PP photographer sounded such a sweetie
I LOVE your giraffe photos :goodvibes
The boy you sat with on EE sounded such a laugh!

That's cute how the PP photographer made you "run" for the picture :rotfl:

Those hippo pictures are soooo cool!

I thought the family in the front of your Dinosaur ride were cute - looks like the kid is scared and they are trying to calm him down

Speaking of ride photos, on EE it looks like your new friend is trying to talk to you even during the ride photo!

Understandable that the Nemo musical doesn't bring back the same memories since there weren't really songs in the movie, they came up with new one for the shoe. And they got Robert Lopez and Kristen Andrrson-Lopez (thee of Frozen fame) to write the songs for it, so at least it has that going for it ;)

WOW! I thought your lion pic was great until I saw your hippo pics!!!

Oh, I should probably not tell my DD15 about this report or she will be begging to do a Run Disney event. This looks like fun! I did see the Avengers run at Disneyland this fall and my DDs would be all over that, but it would be totally irresponsible to go to WDW this June, then go to DL in November during school and harvest time!

Awesome trip report!
