Disney manicures anything special?

I see a lot of pics online of people that have Disney manicures and wondered if Disney does any of these in their spa or if they just do regular boring nail polish. It would be fun to get a Disney manicure on our upcoming cruise.

They just do regular boring nail polish, and it's not even a good brand! Don't get a Disney manicure-waste of money.

I recommend getting one before the cruise somewhere locally. That way you can ask them to draw a DCL logo on your nails, or something fun like that! :cutie:

Thanks for the tip! I was going to get one on-board. I think I will save my money. I would get one before I got but we are spending a few days in the parks first so I'm not so sure what it would look like by the time I got on the ship. :crazy2: I don't want to worry with having to take nail polish remover or touch up polish. Real bummer though cause you know all the women would want their nails done Disney style while on a cruise. Oh well. I guess they missed the boat on that one.... :rotfl2:

Thanks again!
:)

my friends mother got one done on board and she said it was awful. i never looked that closely at it but she was annoyed with what she had to pay for a 'not good' one.

Get a shellac manicure. It will last at least two weeks.

:thumbsup2 I just got my toes and fingers shellacked-lol-and I love it! Had my toes done a while back and it lasted at least 2 weeks. I'll never go back to regular polish.

Had a mani pedi on the Fantasy last March. It was OK. I prefer my hometown nail place. The onboard spa is very upscale with a young staff who try very hard to up sell products. The best part for me was the view from the salon windows.

I get a shellac at home and it lasts until it grows out! Never chips. I got one on boards (won a spa gift certificate at the drawing and it was the cheapest thing that I hadn't already pre bought before the cruise). It chipped the next day- unfortunately the day I got off the ship. I was glad I hadn't shelled out much of my own money!

My gel nails can last up to 1 month. My place doesn't suggest spending the extra on the toes, so I can't comment on those, but definitely do it before your trip. You should have no problems with them lasting! they can put some cute mickey heads on them :)

Ok, So I need some help - What is shellac. Sorry I guess I don't get my nail done often enough to know. The last time I tried to get my nails done it was the OPI gel manicure and it didn't even last 24 hours. The manicurist tried it again and they come off again. She then told me my nails were too healthy for it to "stick" to. :confused3
So do all the nail places do shellac nails? Is that how I ask for it?
Sorry for sounding so dumb :goodvibes

I had a regular manicure and shellac manicure done while onboard the DCL (2 different cruises). I prefer to go to my local nail salon. The price is much lower and the service is the same. DCL has great service but nothing extra special to pay premium price.

Unrelated to the Disney manicure, but I recently discovered that if you get the glitter to go on top of your polish, it is sparkly and fun and it lasts FOREVER. It's actually really hard to get off your nails - you have to use pure acetone or it takes forever. I'm going to get a fresh glittery pedicure before I leave. :)

Gel and shellac nails are the same thing. When they don't last it's usually because they weren't cured with ultraviolet properly or long enough. Could be an inexperienced manicurist too.

Yes! A regular pedicure can last a month.

I totally agree with this. Your manicurist didn't know what she was doing nor what she was talking about unfortunately.

NO-And it was the worst manicure ever! They did not dry the nails properly and then gave me attitude when they smudged and I asked to have them fixed. I had to set up another appointment a couple hours later to get it fixed. The color choices were BORING!!!!!!!!!! Save your money-get a manicure at home before you go...

:eeyore:

Thanks everyone!! You would think since Disney offers them they would take it up a notch like everything else. Oh well I guess they can't be great at everything. :hyper:

So it sounds like the lady that did my nails might not have known what she was doing. That is good news cause I had completely given up on being able to get a manicure. I think I will find another place and get them done again soon to try it out. Then if it works good I can get another manicure right before my trip. Yeah!
:cool1:

And yes glitter does make your polish last and it is hard to take off. I use glitter polish on my toes and it last forever. :)

I got my manicure done last Friday on the Magic, and I really liked it!! I have a hard time getting manicures, as I don't like being too "precious" with my fingernails. They still look pretty good! I was impressed.

We always get ours done before we go even if we are staying at WDW before the cruise. I get gel polish and it usually lasts anywhere between 1-2 weeks. Most of the spa services on board most cruise lines, including DCL, is run by Steiner's of London. Total rip-off IMHO. The girls are only trained for about 4 weeks on average. And most of that training is about the selling of their products. And a hard sell at that. Do a Google search about working for that company and you'll see. They use a cheap, nasty oil( rice bran oil from Bon Vital)for their overpriced massages.
Go on Pinterest and look for Disney nails or similar. Lots of cute ideas to bring to your local nail salon.

There are some REALLY cute designs out there! Now I just have to find someone in my area that can do one of them. :cool1:

I booked a mani just for the views too!
