Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Three (NOW CLOSED, see 2014 thread)

Hello,
We will be arriving at POR on Memorial day and staying the week. I just wanted to know from anyone who as been there that week what to expect crowdwise at the resort ? We have only gone to Disney during low seasons Sept, Oct, and once in the middle of Dec.

Great report! It's got me excited about our first stay at POR in May! I think since we will have our vehicle we'll probably drive to the parks instead of relying on the buses. Well, we may take bus to MK, but we'll drive to the other parks.

We fly into Tampa, so we always have a car. However, we ALWAYS take the bus to MK. Even when we went to Hoop de doo Revue, we took the bus to MK and the boat to Fort Wilderness, much faster than driving, which we've also done. So, just putting that out there in case you or anybody is going to HDDR, to think of this option because there is very little parking at the entrance to FW and then you have to take an internal bus anyway. We also didn't drive to DTD, either because of the convenience with the boat.

Another thing we did was on our DHS day, we had an ADR to Boma, so we parked at DHS, visited for the day (but wanted to return for Osborne lights) so we took the bus to AKL, ate & bused back to DHS without having to move our car. Very convenient.

I've tried to stay other places, but POR is just a great place for our family. IT is so beautiful and serene. I've thought about the deluxes, but the prices about kill me. I could pay it, but just can't make myself! LOL

We are exactly the same, we don't spend enough time in our room to warrant spending that much money. I am considering a night with a castle view so we can watch the fireworks from our balcony, but apart from that I can't see us ever paying for deluxe...and why bother when POR has everything we love??

Super Duper Excited for our first POR stay! We used a TA against my better judgement. It costs us the same as if I would have booked myself but she offered a $100 gift card to use her. Well needless to say no gift card :( No luggage tags yet BUT we did get Magic bands and can see reservation online, so hopefully I have my trip. If not we have been duped of our $$ :(

I wanna have a pedicure on our no-park day and wonder where I can go that would be easy to get to. I know there is a spa at Coronado Springs but there is no bus to that resort.....should I take a cab or go somewhere else....what about downtown Disney?? Help......:confused3

You could get one at Grand Floridian Spa as well. Bus to MK, then monorail to GF. Or bus/boat to DTD then bus/boat to Saratoga, they have a spa, too.

Make sure you come back and tell us when you get your gift card. If agents gave gift cards too far in advance of the trip we would have lots of people canceling after they got their gift card.

I was wondering what the plug in things are on the entertainment unit where the tv is located, is it just A/V plugs or is there a spot to plug in an iPhone or iPod to charge in a USB outlet? I can't seem to tell from the pictures online. Also is there a power outlet there as well?

I'm considering booking a stay at POR just after Memorial Day for my family of 4. This would be our first on site stay and just our second time at Disney. If I request a room in Alligator Bayou, what is the likelihood that is where we will get placed? Our kids have never slept in the same bed and that trundle bed could come in real handy.

Just A/V, no USB, no outlets - at least in the royal room we are in. There is a dual outlet on the nightstand between the beds.

Thanks for the quick reply, I think that should work for charging everything as I really didn't want to bring a power bar with me

Well, you could guarantee AB by booking preferred, since all preferred rooms are in AB. But even if you don't book preferred, your chances are pretty good, since there are more AB rooms than Mansion rooms, since although the Royal rooms are in the Mansions, they're a separate booking category, and they account for half the rooms in the Mansion side.

And by the way, it's a Murphy bed, not a trundle, if that makes a difference to you.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I meant Murphy bed. :)

Do you like the Partierre Place building? I requested magnolia Terrace but wondered about your building for being close to the main area.......is it all royal guest rooms though?

Thank you all for your freezer answers. When you say small, would they fit 2 capri sun pouches or small juice boxes?

Please be aware that not all fridges have freezer compartments - in fact until recently almost none did. Given that a few people have posted that they have found them on recent visits, I wonder if the batch of 1,000 new fridges which was installed towards the end of November might have (by chance) included freezer compartments? But whatever the reason, please don't count on it.

Can anyone tell me the best way to get a complaint to POR? I have their address but not sure who I should address it to? Is their an email address or fax?

You could email the main WDW Guest Relations address (wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com) or fax the resort management directly using the resort fax number listed in the first post. Mark your fax for the personal attention of either the Guest Relations manager or the General Manager, depending on how serious you think it is.

I'd go along with the bus to MK usually being faster, but Disney transport to Hoop de Doo from POR is more questionable.

From POR it's a very quick drive (maybe 5 mins) to the Fort Wilderness parking lot, and then you just get on the first internal circuit bus that turns up to take you over to the main area.

Using Disney transport, you'd probably only just have got to the MK in the time it would have taken you to get all the way to the venue by car & FW bus. That said, if you've got the time and you're not clashing with the MK exit crowds on the way back, the boat is a very pleasant way to get there.

Just A/V sockets:

Just A/V, no USB, no outlets - at least in the royal room we are in. There is a dual outlet on the nightstand between the beds.

There are several twin wall outlets: a set beside the table, on the wall by the bed, behind the bedside table (not very easy to get at other than in Accessible Rooms where it has been moved to above the table level) and another beside the sinks. Some are used for supplied products, but mostly there's at least one socket left free.

Personally I always take at least one four-way mains extension cable, they are easy enough to pack and save a lot of hassle if you've got multiple items to charge, etc.

Parterre is indeed all Royal Rooms.

For regular bookings, the two mansion building options are Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace. In general terms, Magnolia is probably the better location of the two (although there are some very nice rooms in Acadian too - the buildings are so large than even though some rooms are very close, others can be quite a walk).
