DLR Half-Marathon 2013. Who else is going?!?!

Our outfits are pretty much all together and just waiting to be run in now! :hyper:

We'll be starting back in G and probably running somewhere between 3:15 and 3:30 doing walk/run. If any of you happen to be back there with us, feel free to say hello! :wave2:

So cute! Love the costumes:).

Those are cute! I'm finishing up my 10k shirt tonight and then I'm done and ready to go too. I'm trying really hard not to get overly anxious and start packing.

Thanks! Not too much longer before we can all start packing!

Which reminds me to share a bit of advice we got before flying to WDW for Goofy: wear your running shoes and/or be sure to pack your running clothes (costume or not) in your carry-on!

We've not lost luggage yet when flying, but you'd hate to lose what you know you're comfortable running in before a race.

Oh my gosh ~ that is my biggest fear when I fly to a race. I bring EVERYTHING(outfit, shoes, gu, belt and bottles...) on the plane w/ me except for my roller. I used to bring my stick w/ me b/c it would fit in my carry on, but when I was flying home from WDW they took it b/c they said I could hit someone w/ it.

I never got around to planning a costume. I still figure I've got time to color-coordinate otherwise I'll just go with my usual. I am kind of leaning towards seeing if Raw threads has their DDD shirt at the expo, but I'll still probably pass on that.

Thankfully I don't have to pack and risk forgetting anything back home since it's barely a 5 minute drive for me (although I sure do want to stay at the PPH one year just for the heck of it).

Anyone else hit a rut with their training. I was doing so well but I was having some really bad days a few weeks ago and haven't been able to get myself back out there since. I still feel more prepared than any other half I've done before, but I want to use these last few weeks wisely.

We're doing this in Aug b/c in January after running at WDW, we packed all of our swag and medals in a checked suitcase and it got lost. :-(. The airline located it eventually but there was great sadness for a while. We're not taking those chances again.

Hang in there! You're almost there!:cheer2:

Don't try to overdo anything to make up for any missed runs, but definitely try to get back out there for whatever runs you have left so you maintain the stamina you've built up to this point. Keeping up with your training is what is going to allow you to finish strong, whatever your goals might be. Your race day experience is bought and paid for with the training you put in before the starting line! ;)

:tink:You can do it! :smickey:

This is good advice. I developed an Achilles problem a few weeks ago that has really hampered my training. I'm not going to go for a PR in the DLR HM- just going to take it easy and enjoy this one.

The margins may seem smaller, but there are two sets of racers in the corrals. The DDD people are filling the corrals too.

Oh, right! I actually meant the margins between the predicted finishes - 2:52 for E and 3:00 for F. I thought they were further apart for WDW but perhaps I was just crazy ;)

From the FAQ on their page, they do use balloons. I don't know how sensitive the other poster's friend's allergy is, but I would think they could probably trail them a bit without any risk of coming into contact with the balloons.

Thanks. She's pretty sensitive, and unfortunately latex is an airborne allergy with balloons being one of the worst offenders... the latex particles float on out in the air. (She can't eat anything prepped in a kitchen where latex gloves are in use, for reference, and really no one with a latex allergy should be. It's a progressive allergy. Ask me how I know.) Anyways, we will just maintain some distance. We didn't have any trouble at WDW, we just stayed aware of where the pacers were and ran to the other side and made sure we weren't downwind. I understand why they use the balloons, but I still wish they wouldn't. LOL.

Training is going reasonably well, I think we have a wish and a prayer of hitting 3:00 but it's all going to be dependent on that day. I'm relieved to know there are fewer crowds than WDW. Our last long run we did about 13:40/mi - 16 seconds under pace - but then we just did a 4mi last night where somehow we ended up at 12:36. I have no idea how that happened! The next few weeks are going to be challenging - we are in WDW from the 17th to the 25th and then leave again on the 29th for DLR. Plus a business trip for my running buddy and some work overnights for me and fitting in running is gonna be harrrrdddd... we have come SO far though that I am determined to finish strong! I appreciate the reminders, it will help when I wake up at zero-dark-o'clock at WDW to go run. Training on vacation... what has happened to me!? LOL!

Please, for the love of all that is good in this world, pack your running gear in your carry on.

When I went to Princess this year I thankfully took this advice from someone and so when I got to Florida my shoes, tutu, socks, shorts, tank, etc were with me and the rest of my belongings were not.

Regular clothes, toiletries, hairbrush, toothbrush can be replaced (although its a pain in the tutu) but your running gear can't be and you don't want to be running in new stuff so carry it on with you.

19 days until I'm there! Woohoo! Here comes the banana man to celebrate!

Thank goodness they were found and returned. No medal would be horrible! I was really surprised when they took my stick. At 1st I didn't think they were serious, especially w/ the amount of runners going in and out of MCO that weekend, I couldn't have been the only one w/ it in my carry on luggage.

I developed an Achilles problem a few weeks ago that has really hampered my training.

Hope it heal's fast!

Yay!! That was my thought when I woke up this morning ~ 3 weeks from today I'll be at the airport getting ready to board.

Are you allowed to wear your medals on the plane or have them in your carry on? Seems like if you could hit someone with the stick a medal could also do some damage.

I've never worn them onto the plane, but had them in my carry on and never had a problem. Never thought about the medals before, especially the C2C one ~it's so heavy!! :rotfl2:

I wore my Marine Corps Marathon medal on the plane back home with no problems. I just needed to take it off through security like any other accessory.
They are even bigger!!

We didn't try wearing our medals, but we kept them in our carryons back in January after Goofy -- we definitely didn't want to lose them after all the months of hard work to earn them! If anything, we were concerned about the 20th anniversary Mickey medal with the pointed end at the bottom, but we didn't have any issues with it, and I didn't hear of anyone else having any issues either.

My husband was recently (July) diagnosed with thyroid cancer and we assumed the radiation therapy needed after surgery would mean no DL trip, so no 10K as I am his primary caregiver. But today the Dr said surgery went so well radiation isn't until AFTER Labor Day!!! I'm so happy. Running out some of the stress of the past month has been a good release but I couldn't be happier to know I can still participate in the race. Reading these boards is always a great way to be connected. Can't wait to be running amongst all of you in a few short weeks!

Daughter ran 13 miles today. Ran it! She is soooooooo excited!!!

She'll have no problem staying ahead of the pacers, but her personal goal is to actually run the whole time.

Go Kiddo!!:cool1:

That's great that the surgery went so well and that you will be able to take the trip together -- I hope you have a great trip, a great run and make lots of fantastic new memories together! :thumbsup2
