Nemesis Challenge:It's OK to Finish Next-To-Last, As Long As I Beat HIM/ Its Here!!!!

So Sunday's run was interesting. I had gotten about 1/2 a mile from home on a route that I've run or walked probably hundreds of time. I cross a normal residential street, and all of a sudden I'm being chased by two dogs. The lead dog appears to be some kind of Pit Bull mix based on the shape of the head and jaws, but a bit shorter and stockier. His buddy looks like a beagle mix but a bit taller and longer. Both are barking like crazy and come up on me fast. Knowing that dogs have a strong predator/prey instinct, I stopped running and turned to face them. Both had collars and tags, so I at least knew I wasn't dealing with wild dogs. They circled me for a little bit as I stood there holding my ground. So I gave them one of those Crocodile Dundee animal mind tricks

and they backed off.

Soon the smell of a tree caught the beagle's attention and he pretty much forgot about me. I tried walking up the Pit Bull, but he was all bark and no action, turning and running into the street, circling the long way around me and back toward where they came from.

So, Andy, your pickup was Hulk Smashed, your dogs have been been reduced to whiney little puppies, and I'm still running. What else you got?
Glad you didn't get bit. I wouldn't want you blaming your loss on a dog bite. I got bit back when I had a newspaper route by a dog I saw every morning. It was bizarre.

Well some of us other dads all got our corral assignments. We are all in the same corral. Seems we were all put in the bachelor pad corral:drinking1 . Well good luck to those of you that got a lettered corral.:)
Ohhhh, can I bring my time to get into this corral? :rotfl2:

Oh Barry you are going to be so shamed !!!! You are starting in "B" ? Oh this is going to make Tims victory even sweeter!! I predict he passes you oh say about the 3/4 mark...Maybe they can move you up to the "A" corral so it gives you even more of a headstart.:wave2:
Ummm.... let's not get crazy here. :rolleyes2

Ohh thanks for that link too. I'm in "B" too.
Nice!!! WTG! I hope I see you guys there. :smokin:

I was in H last year.
Hope you are in B too. ::yes::

Well, congrats on the longer runs and I'm glad it its getting easier. I hope you can get this pain taken care of, and most importantly, I hope it doesn't keep you from running in January.
Oh, I'm running no matter what. I don't care what the doctor says... unless I am in a cast or something. :crutches:

Yes That stinks..... :crazy2:

Hopefully you will get an answer and be able to deal with it and run.
I am running regardless. There is no way I've done all this running and not going to run in Jan.

Not sure what you said either but I am sure saying that it hurts and and you are running on it and have a race, indicating that you will continue to run on it may have given the scheduler some pause to fit you in. :)
Maybe that's what did it. :confused3

Whatever it was, I'm glad they are getting me in. :hyper:

Good luck and I hope it is not a race stopper. pixiedust:
Thank you. :goodvibes

I can't remember how much time there is between waves. :confused3
If the race starts at 5:30, "B" will go around 5:45 or 5:50 maybe?:confused3

Congrats! Remember to say hydrated! Oh wait, that's kind of the point, isn't it. :drinking1

You seem to have a lot of confidence in someone that might have a broken ankle.

Not my dogs... My pit bull mix is part pit bull and part blue heeler. He's too lazy to chase anything though. He might sit up and bark, but wouldn't pursue you over 10 feet. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:
Back when my brother and I were in high school, a friend of his snuck over to the farm one night during home coming and Toilet Papered a bunch of our trees. My brother's dog was outside - helping. He'd throw the roll of TP, the dog would go get and bring it back so he could throw it again. :sad2:

Ohh thanks for that link too. I'm in "B" too.

Party in Cell Block B!

Stupid computer. I'm having pdf issues and can't get my assignment.
This may help: :badpc:

I hope to be back later to respond but I wanted to give a little update-

I've been doing really well with my running and last week I ran the longest I've ever run 8 miles! I've been trying to fit in 2 shorter runs then a long run each week. My 8 mile run was easy and I could of ran longer. I was really amazed. Every run my upper ankle/ lower inside part of my shin has been hurting pretty bad. I've been running on it while putting the pain out of my mind. It usually hurt bad for about 1/2 a mile then it kinda went away till I stopped running.

Today I went for one of my shorter runs... a 4.6 miler. My leg was hurting the entire run.... then my right leg started hurting around the same area. It was hurting to the point that I thought about stopping and walking back. I pushed through and finished my run. When I got home and out of the car, I literally limped to the house. I was in serious pain. I immediately started icing and I got on the phone again with the orthopedic specialist to try to get an appointment. They said the earliest was the last week of January. UGH!!!! I tried to sweet talk them, told them how my wife spoke to the doctor at work about my leg and how he said to call for an appointment, told them I was running in a marathon in 3 weeks, etc. I'm not sure what did it but I ended up with an appointment this Friday at 10:15. I am anxious and scared to hear what he thinks.

I was doing some research this afternoon and I think I might have severe shin splints. I scoured the web and found some exercises for shin splints. I am currently trying those.

I really want my legs to feel better.... then maybe I'd be enjoying running. :sad2:

I just want to say good luck. We're all counting on you.

B? WOW! WTG!!!! That could mean I'm going to be in A! :cool1:
I need Randall's HA HA HA HA HA NO gif. But I'm too lazy to go find it.

Oh, I'm running no matter what. I don't care what the doctor says... unless I am in a cast or something. :crutches:
They make walking boots. Take a sharpie and draw a little Nike swoosh on it and you've got a running boot!

Corral B for me!. :cool1::cool1:
:cheer2::cheer2: We're going rock that corral like it's in 1999!

I can't remember how much time there is between waves. :confused3

I figured I just stand around until some yelled "GO!" :confused3

Well let me just say no matter how this turns out for either of you,we are all proud of you both.:thumbsup2 No I am not just saying this cause I heard through the grapevine that you two were buying all of your followers a dole whip the day after the race.:rolleyes1

Weather and schedule keep postponing my last long run. I was supposed to do about 14 miles on Saturday and still haven't had a chance. I might have to do it all on a treadmill.:furious:

::yes::

I've played basketball in one of those before. It can be done.

Air Clunks!

Thanks Carl! But, umm... you need to get a better grapevine. That one appears to be broken.

Merry Christmas to Everyone!!!!

Thanks Pat! Hope you had a great Holiday!

::yes:: I hear you. I'm OK on the treadmill for 4 or sometimes 5 miles, but anything more than that is just torture. I'm hoping to get one last longish run in this weekend (HOLY CRAP IT'S 2 WEEKS UNTIL RACE DAY!)

And to make matters worse, I'm sick. When I get a cold, it sticks with me for a long time. Last year I was sick and injured. This year, it looks like I'll just be sick. Maybe next year I'll be 100%.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. As of today we are 16 days away from the 1/2. I cringe while I type this. If you haven't been following on Facebook, here is my problem. I went running last Wednesday and my legs hurt for the entire run. I broke down and called for an appointment. I begged, pleaded, told them that I knew Barry, and some how they fit me in on Friday.

X-rays were negative. I have what amounts to deep bone bruises that with continued impact will most likely turn into fractures. I have been advised to stop running for 8 weeks to give time for my legs to heal on their own. Only problem- the 1/2 marathon is in 2 weeks. I told him that I am running the 1/2 regardless.... He smiled at me and said he cannot guarantee that if I run I won't fracture it and have it be so painful that I cannot finish. He suggested in order to keep up my cardio training by riding a stationary bike, swimming, or possibly an elliptical, as long as it isn't painful. He also suggested having me take vitamin D and calcium daily to help with bone rejuvenation. I am going to follow his recommendation and not run, ride the bike to keep my cardio up, and rest.

I went to the gym yesterday and rode the bike for 45 minutes. (11 miles) I barely broke a sweat and feel like my breathing never really elevated. I did raise the resistance to 8 and did intervals. My legs didn't hurt and I did some stretching afterward. My legs are a little sore today. I guess I should just lay low and test it out in a week or so. I wish the 1/2 was a few months away but it is in 2 weeks.

I have no idea how my body is going to react if I don't run for a few weeks then try to run 13 miles- a distance I haven't run before. But I will be standing there at the starting line on the 12 waiting for the start.

Tape a Cheetah to your back!

Tape a Barry to your back! :thumbsup2

The typing is the easy part.

Behold, the power of cheese.

This is actually a positive.

Well that just sucks. I know you want to run the whole thing, but seriously- there's no shame in taking walk breaks. Maybe run through the castle, do the photo with the whole gang, then run/walk to the finish?:confused3

Well the weather is not cooperating. High of about 46 and I don't feel like running outside in the cold with a cold. I'll do the treadmill for as long as I can but I just realized I forgot to bring my Clif Shots.

Well the holiday season has taken it's toll on me and I've come down with a nasty cold/sinus thing that has knocked me on my butt. Really hoping I can get this all cleared up by next week as this thing started on Friday. I'd really like to be able to get a couple more runs in before the race.:(:furious:
