Hi Everyone,

We just got back last week from AKL and had an awesome 1st family trip. However, one late afternoon at the pool, we encountered something a bit odd. A family of 5 entered the pool area right by the bar. Mom, around 16 year old daughter, around 14 year old son, around 11 year old son, and around 8 or 9 year old daughter. They put their stuff on the lounge chairs and the 2 younger children stripped down to their underwear with the girl topless. The 14 year old left his shorts on and the 16 year old and mom remained clothed. The half naked children were running around in saggy pants oblivious to the gawks of fellow patrons. Is it normal for cast members to ignore this behavior? You don't even want to know what happened on the slide......

ummm.. I think that would make me totally uncomfortable. I don't think i would even let a 2 year old run around topless in a public place... in your own pool ok but in public? not to mention you don't know where the perverts are... I would think there would be a rule... but I'm not sure...

We encountered a similar situation on a trip. Only these people were at Epcot letting their 8 or 9 year old daughter play in the fountains (the ones that shoot some water out of them right before entering WS) topless. It made us very uncomfortable too but as far as we could tell, they were French. My husband reminded me that nudity is more accepted in other countries. Still all I could think about were all of the pervs in Disney World! Yuck!

Could they have been boys with long hair? I have made that mistake before. Maybe they were from out of the country where that wouldn't be such a big deal?

yea we've had this issue too. Its a foreing thing. I complained to a CM-because the topless girl was 8 and thats just weird. her parents were told she was to put on proper swim clothes to swim. Bizarre.

Usually places like this would have rules that state proper swim wear must be worn, so I wouldn't have had a problem asking a CM about the policy or complaining. And I'm really liberal when it comes to nudity. Impromptu swim at a waterfall on a hike, maybe, but that's kind of extreme when it comes to a swimming pool at a resort! An 8 year old girl playing in a fountain topless would not have phased me. What are "perverts" going to do? Look just like everyone else can? Big deal.

Last summer two grown women changed out of their bathing suit tops at the quiet pool at the boardwalk. I couldn't believe it.

We run a campground and it is amazing what some parents think is ok. Infants either naked or in a diaper. When we ask them to put the swimmy diapers on they get upset! It is nice they tell the kids not to P in the pool but they think it is ok for them to walk to the fence and drop their drawers and go right there. Then I really like it when the kids are doing something stupid and dangerous and we ask them to stop. These wonderful parents say things like 'the mean lady doesn't want you to have any fun you have to stop'.

It is perfectly acceptable and common throughout much of Europe for pre-pubescent girls to wear bottoms only. It is really isn't the end of the world. Good thing everyone made them feel comfortable by staring at her and talking about how disgusting it was

I don't see it as that big of a deal. But there are some really messed up in the head people and so they should be covered up. Personally thought its not that big of a deal. I think its unfortunate that in this country we have such extreme body issues. We need to stop sexualizing all forms of nudity. The truth is I think alot of nudity is taken out of context. I keep reading on the boards people freaking out about breast feeding. Its like really but you drink cows milk you now it comes from a teet.

It may the norm in Europe, but Disney World is located in central Florida and it is proper to be respectful of the customs of the area in which you are visiting. When I lived overseas, it was my responsibility to acquaint myself the customs. It would have been rude and insensitive of me choose to dress according to my standards without regard to the community in which I lived.

Get over it. They were visiting here on vacation not living here. They may not have known better. Does an 8 yr old topless girl look any different than an 8 yr old topless boy? Who really cares? You are the ones sexualizing it.

Have to agree with Junebug.

I think when you visit any country you are expected to know the rules of society. I expect Americans to do it when going abroad, and the same when visitors come here.

I would have spoken to the lifeguard.

For one thing it is quite possible they were not even staying at the Lodge which would bother me more than what they had on. I am tired of paying for something others take for free.

Anyone seeing grown women naked by the pools or water parks, I dont believe you for one minute. You are going to have to show me pictures in order to prove it to me. Inbox me, stat! ;-)

I did see two topless women at the wave pool at Blizzard beach on Wednesday. I don't think it was by choice....but they could have made a better choice in swimsuit selection....

When in Rome.. act Roman. when in Orlando.. you conform to the local customs / "visiting" is no excuse. they expect US to conform to THEIR local customs in Europe( and elsewhere). why shouldn't Americans expect the same courtesies in our country?

and guess what.. some 8 year girls have begun developing.

underwear, last I heard, was NOT acceptable substitutes for bathing suits/swim trunks.
