Need prayers and good thoughts for Kevin's Mom today * Update 5/8/11*

Lots of pixie dust, thoughts, and prayers are going to Mom, You, and your family.

It is unfortunate that we have to second guess the professionals. But if you feel something is being overlooked or have questions about care please ASK the DR or ask for an administrator to address questions to.

Hi Kevin and John,

I'm so sorry this is happening! As bad as it was that the doctor didn't listen to you, I'm glad he is taking heed of the test results and getting your mom stable before operating on her. I hope she's soon well enough to get the care she needs to recover completely!

My prayers are with you all!

Hi Folks....

I'm not a violent person, but I could beat someone with a stick right now.

When my Mom was re-admitted to the hospital last evening, it was suggested that we agree to this surgery and that it should be done today.

I asked the DR if we should wait and allow my Mom to get IV fluids, meds and other stuff to get her to a more stable place.

I was told no, no, no....we should do this tomorrow.

After no food or water (and she's dehydrated) since midnight last night, they wait until late afternoon to prep for this surgery. Part of the prep was an arterial blood gas test ( a fancy blood test from what I can tell).

Seconds before she was taken in to the operating room, the DR (the same one from last night) tells me that the test shows that she's dehydrated, needs IV fluids, meds and other stuff.

I ashamed to share the thoughts that went through my mind.

My Mom's surgery has been put off until she's more stable.

The fact that I'm not in the county jail right now should be proof that I have reached maturity.

Thanks again for your prayers, good thoughts and for keeping my family in your hearts.

i'm sure you can interpret exactly what that means...

i went through this with my mom last year when she had surgery in houston....at MD Anderson - one of the top cancer hospitals in the entire world...
and yet, despite the fact that it is a top hospital, things like this happened way too many times over the course of the 2 weeks we were there..

Kevin, your mom is very lucky to have you watching over her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kevin, keeping you and your Mom in my thoughts! She is fortunate you are there to be her advocate. :grouphug:

Thank goodness your mom has you watching out for her! I here this over and over again from friends that have had relatives in the hospital...you need to be there to question everything happening, from tests to medications!

We wish you and your mom the very best!

Prayers and pixie dust - and a smack on the head for the doctor!

You showed great restraint, Kevin.

My brother and I spoke with the Hospice doctor this morning.

We have been told that my Mom's condition is so poor that we should stop her treatment and let her pass peacefully.

We have decided to follow his advice.

Nothing in my life has been this difficult.

Please keep my Mom in your prayers.

Oh, Kevin, god... I'm so, so sorry.

Wishing you and your family a LOT, a LOT of love and peace.

Please let us know anything we can do for you.

I'm so sorry.

My heart goes out to you and your family. May you all find some peace soon.

Kevin,

So saddened to hear of this, please remember you and your family are in our prayers.

Frank and Cathy

Kevin, I am so sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time.

Kevin, this news is so sad. My heart goes out to you and your family during this trying time. Just know, that my family is with you in spirit. :grouphug:

Kevin,

I'm so, so sorry to hear this. I was hoping so much for a great outcome, but the more you described what was going on, the more it sounded like what we went through with my mother ten years ago. We had a month long roller coaster of ups and downs, hopes and sorrows, and at the end she just wore out.

You're honoring your mother by doing what's best for her, and that's such a hard decision. You and your brother have to take care of yourselves.

You are all in my prayers. :grouphug: It doesn't matter how old you are when you lose your last parent. You will feel like an orphan. Try to stay out of the malls. Those Mothers Day signs everywhere can really get to you.

Kevin - I only met your Mom a couple of times, but I'll never forget the time she gave our Anna her blanket so she could stay warm in Celebration Town Tavern. She is such a kind lady.

We are all praying for her and your family during this time. :grouphug:

Kevin,
