I want to participate in the 2012 Disney Princess Half Marathon!

Me, me, me!!!! I want to join! Going to start the C25k program with DH this weekend. I'm really excited/nervous. I really want to do the Expedition everest challenge, but we have a Vegas trip scheduled the week before that, so I don't think we'll be able to. I'd like to try the Halloween 5k and then do the Princess half. DH wants to do the regular half marathon, maybe I can convince him to do the Buzz and Woody 5k instead.

I don't like running. I'm a mom of three, not overweight, but not in shape. DH is a pack a day smoker, so I'm hoping this will help in my crusade to get him to quit.:thumbsup2:

Welcome Mama Dis! You will love the c25k program. I just started week 4 and am really thrilled so far. I really struggled to run for 60 secs when I first started. But, now I'm running intervals as long as 5 minutes. If you have an iPod touch or iPhone I have found the c25k app to be a huge help.

Alright fellow runners, I have realized I desperately need some new music to run to. I only have about 20 songs on my iPhone and I'm getting real sick of them. Anyone have a favorite motivational or upbeat song to workout to?

I missed my long run/walk this weekend, but got a 30 minute run/walk in this afternoon. DH and I will be heading down in 10 days for the Royal Family 5K this year. I'm already excited to start training for next year's Princess 1/2 and we're talking about the Wine & Dine 1/2 this year.

Right now I'm just a little over a 14 minute mile which should give me plenty of time for pictures this year and plenty of time to build up more of a cushion for 2012.

There is a C25K program for Android too! I just downloaded it today! Although, I'm walking a 5K this Saturday! I'll let you all know how it goes.

As for songs... I need some too!! Any suggestions princesses?!?!

Welcome new folks! So excited to see this thread "take shape"! Not sure if we have to do an "official 2012" thread or if we can keep this one? I go out for my 2 miler tomorrow. Next week I will bump it up to 2 short wuns/wogs or whatever you want to call them, of 2.5 and 1 long wun of 3.5 miles. I'm trying to stick to my 2 minute walk/2 minute run (wun) method for another couple weeks and then will switch to 3/2.

I signed up for my first 5k, the Shamrock Run here in Portland, OR and it usually brings in 30,000 people :scared1:.... nothing like going BIG for your first race.

As far as music I'm all over the place for my playlist. Everything from Justin Timberlake "Bringin' Sexy Back", to Audioslave "Show me how to live" to Van Halen "Best of Both worlds" to Muse "Uprising". :woohoo: I like a little bit of everything, just as long as it's not slow...... I've got 25 lbs to lose for me to be at "fight weight" and I'm already down 4 in just 10 days. Amazing what happens when you actually "move your body".

Hi!! We are fairly close it sounds like. I'm in the Seattle area. However, I'll be headed that way to do the warrior dash in September. I'm only at 2/2 on my wun/wogs as well. :) The dash will be my first race. I thought I'd make expedition everest, but that doesn't appear that it will happen.

Not late at all! Welcome and good for you on wanting to be healthier! You CAN do it!

I did it! Just finished day one. I remember how intensely hate running again. I'm going to keep pushing through it though!!!

Wow! Thanks for all the music lists and song suggestions everyone. I need to spend a little money on Itunes tonight and load some new songs on my phone. I especially love 80's and 90's music. Nothing like some good mindless pop to make the workout go faster.

Mama Dis I actually do like the Dropkick Murphys my husband turned me on to them just recently!

Happy Mama Hope you like the c25k app, I swear by mine. I tried doing the program years ago just using the time display on the treadmill and didn't last very long. This is much better.

We are having some unexpectedly mild weather here in Delaware. I think all of the remaining snow may just be melted off of the sidewalks. Today is my rest day, but if it is this nice out tomorrow I'm going to go for a run outside! Now I just have to pray I don't see any neighbors or people I know!

I'm glad to see so many others want to lose weight too. I would like to lose 30-40lbs. My "baby" is turning 5 next month so the baby weight excuse doesn't really apply anymore!

I'm going to jump in. I have wanted to do the princess 1/2 for a while now. I ran/walked my first 5K last September. Then I kind of slowed down and didn't do anything. I ran/walked a 5K the beggining of the month and my time was worse. I have now started walking long walks again. I've been doing 5-6 mile walks with minimal running involved. I'm using Runkeeper Pro on the Iphone to keep track of distance and time. Since nobody I know wants to participate I hope that posting here will help keep me accountable on my progress. I'm also hoping that all of this walking and running will hope me lose the 30 pounds that I need to.

Hi Princesses!!

MedicGoofy & Dawn, WELCOME!!! :flower3:

Karen & MamaDis, thank you for all the great song suggestions! I'll be downloading some songs tomorrow night!!

Mollyslaw, so glad you are finally getting some good weather. It's been wonderful here.. mid 70's for the last few days, but I'll be wishing I was up north in a few months when it's 100* with 99% humidity.

MamaDis, hang in there.

I'm gearing up to walk in a 5K this weekend. So nervous since I haven't trained much. I am hoping I do ok, but will do the best I can. Medical issues have prevented me from training as much as I had hoped. I got very discouraged, but at the suggestion of a PP have been reading Marathoning for Mortals by John "the Penquin" Bingham. Even though I'm no where near doing a marathon, it's been incredibly inspiring. And the good news is both my doctors released me yesterday!!!

I am so glad to hear everyone is doing so well, and our little group is growing!

Hope everyone continues to do well.

Good job everyone! I did my 2.5 miles today at a 12:23 pace (a new record for me). Feel really good today no aches or pains and ate good as well! Also, I ran with my new amphipod belt today, I wanted to start from the beginning wearing it so I would get used to it. I know I will want something to carry my iphone or camera in the day of the race, as well as sports beans or some "energy" food. (Havent ran far enough to try anything out yet).

The belt was really comfy. Didn't budge one bit, I was surprised. It is also kind of cushy on the inside so it doesnt "bite" into you. Also, it's really thin so it's not like this huge fanny pack or anything. Great for a phone/inhaler etc.

Here's the link if you are interested! http://www.amphipod.com/products/holders/music/-electronics/airflow-lite

Thanks for the link kappa, I was wondering where I was going to keep everything I needed!

I am glad I found this post. I have just asked hubby if we can plan our next trip during this week and he said yes:cool1: Now I just have to do my part and train for the marathon. I am starting from scratch. I am on day2 on couch to 5k. so needless to say I have a long way to go. I am glad to see the excitement for the 2012. I hope to make some new friends on this thread to help me stay motivated. Here is to us starting to train!!

Hey all. It's been about 65 degrees today. I'm just waiting for hubby to get home so I can do my run today outside. I wanted to go this morning but have been stuck home all day with my oldest son who is sick. Poor kid! I'm trying to figure out when to sign up for my first 5k. I'm on week 4 of the c25k plan but Im thinking even when the plan is done I'm going to need some extra time to work on my speed. I may be running for longer periods now but durn am I slow!

Mama3Princess - Welcome! I think most of us are starting from scratch! Good luck with your training.

Everyone - Tomorrow is my first 5K!! :thumbsup2 I am really nervous, but will do the best I can. I'll definitely be walking it. DH and the kids are going out there. :) BIL and his girlfriend are walking it, and MIL is volunteering.

Please send prayers our way. My DH was laid off at the beginning of Sept and has been out of work since. He has several job prospects right now. Two of them would mean moving... one 12 hours away and one 3 hours away. The other is off shore and he'd be gone for 7 days at a time. Please pray for guidance and for God to open the right doors, even if it's none of these.

Thanks!

First, good luck on your 5K. The first one is a wonderful accomplishment; you'll feel like a rock star.

Second, you have my prayers for your DH and his job hunt. Change can be tough, but it isn't always a bad thing.
