Meg & Co. Take Over WDW! UD 7/25: We Leave TOMORROW!

Hello! I just found your older TR and read it all tonight so of course I had to jump in on this one! I have really enjoyed reading everything so far and can't wait for an update!

Thank you! I'll most likely be updating on Saturday night, after recital :)

Oh em gee, my mom was working club level.
Have you hear the story about Justin Bieber trying to get into the Lux Level at the movie theatre there? Funniest thing I've heard all week. http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/more_names/blog/2010/06/bieber_kicked_out_of_local_lux.html

Break a leg at your recitals! Dniece15's is tomorrow, and my cousin's DD's is Sunday.

It would be funny if she was the one who waited on us when we got our snacks :rotfl:

I have not! I'll go read that right now! *comes back* Oh dear god, too precious :lmao:

I only have one recital, so not too much pressure. Well, tap is the first number of the show, so a bit there. But, we'll all be fine, and I'm dying to get my 80's groove on!

Loved the Taylor Swift pics! Me and my sis-in-law went and saw her a few months ago. Love her!

Thanks! She was great, wasn't she? :goodvibes

To everyone:

Expect an update this Saturday, 6/18, around 8 p.m. or so. I will be detailing my dance week (including pics, last day of class, rehearsal, and recital) with PICS!

I was all excited about Taylor Swift until I read about a CHOCOLATE REWARDS CARD?! What is this? That sounds heavenly and like a club I should be a member of . My chocolate addiction is a little insane.

Glad you found some cute stuff shopping pre-Taylor! And, how exciting that you were Club Level!!

I'm a big Taylor fan-- I've seen her twice. Glad to hear you liked Gloriana! They have some good songs. Kellie Pickler is so cute. Not a huge fan but I think she's got some catchy songs. You got some good pictures! Too bad you had to leave early but I guarantee you saw the best part of the concert!

Hope finals went well and you're not too busy with dance!

Looking forward to the next update!

Hi!

1) Godiva has a special Chocolate Rewards membership. Just sign up with them in any of their stores--it only takes a few minutes--and you get a GOLD card. It guarentees you 1 free piece of chocolate (per card) from THE CASE every month. They'll also send you coupons/offers through your e-mail. It's definately worth it if you need a quick chocolate fix while at the mall ;) That, plus my Borders Rewards card = a very happy me!

2) I wish I could've seen the massive rain machine during Should've Said No, but I was pleased with what we saw :)

3) Only one final done...I have one early tomorrow morning. Then, I have two on Monday (ick!). Of course, today was my worst--Trig. I know I didn't do too well, but my teacher told me I got a B- for the final quarter, which I was SO happy about!

4) (because 4 is my lucky numbers, and I like even numbers) Dress rehearsal tomorrow for a few hours, and then recital Saturday afternoon! I'll try to update Saturday night, after I wash the 295825 gallons of gel/hairspray out of my hair :rotfl:

I Love The 80's!

Last week of dance, 2010! The dancers are pumped and surrounded by all things 80's. Costumes, music, hair. Neon colors and wacky outfits and funky music. Hair with bumps and colors and volume.

And it all started the other week, when the girlies were trying on their ballet costumes for "She's Got A Way":

Foreground: Kerri and Taylor. I'm in the mirror in the black shorts!

kerriandtay.jpg

And we got this shot, too:

Me, Julie, and Taylor:

metayandjules.jpg

Aren't those dresses beautiful? They're the only part of ballet that I miss. I certainly don't miss barre work or splits or any of that :rotfl:

This Sunday saw dance pictures, along with this fun picture:

Brittany and I (in our jazz costumes):

I snapped a couple pics of this year's recital shirt during the last class:

Finally, after a long week of school and a particularly grueling math exam, came Friday.

Dress rehearsal day! I'd had an exam early that morning (English), and then I'd gone home to shower, relax, watch a movie for AP Human Geography summer work, and get my hair done by mom.

It also happened to be Kerri's 16th birthday. I had run around like a loon on Wednesday getting the rest of the girls to sign a birthday card for her. They happily obliged.

"NO PARTIES", Kerri told me. "NO. PARTIES."

Sorry, sweetie. You're one of my best friends. You're turning 16. I can't NOT do anything!

So a PARTY it was. Just a small one, though. No decorations. A little food (chips and cookies). A nice card signed by all the dancers (and our teacher, too). Many hugs and many "happy birthday!"s.

In-between the maddness:

The birthday girl herself, pinning or fixing something for someone:

Myself and Kerri, all smiles:

Dress rehearsal ran fairly smoothly, for once. Between all the backstage chaos, that is.

I took my Field Notes notebook to do an entry for AP Human Geo (more summer work!) and the first word was a great big "CHAOS!!!!!"

Oh, and Kerri LOVED her card! She said it was so sweet, and gave us big hugs. She honestly had no idea that I was doing that for her, considering that she SAW me running around like a loon on Wednesday!

Oh, I'm smoooooth ;)

Moving on!

On to TODAY! This afternoon! Recital afternoon!

Pre-maddness (taken right when I got there):

007.jpg

Abby had left us last year, and we were all devasated. She came back to visit, though!

Abby and I:

Brittany in our tap costume:

Kerri in our tap costume:

An animal cracker. What animal IS this? It's kind of scary. I just HAD to take a picture of it. Consider it Food Porn:

011-1.jpg

Julie in our COMPLETE tap costume (the sunglasses were actually part of the costume):

012.jpg

Those costumes were HOT. Can you tell?

Our tap number was first. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)"

With canes. And sunglasses. Yessiree.

Did anyone drop a cane? Yes. Brittany did. She didn't mean to, though. Thankfully she kept on going. We all did. We had to. What else can ya do, ya know?

Recover, Britt, recover!

We rushed backstage to the sounds of "Strawberry Shortcake". "Care Bears" followed, while Mary-Kate, Brianna, and Toyosi FLEW out of their tap costumes into another one of their numbers immediately after "Care Bears" ("Can You Feel The Beat"). They made it JUST in time. I hung out backstage during "Tango" and then headed to the stagedoor to see "I Saw Him Standing There". The theme from "The Lost Boys" ("Cry Little Sister") was next, and tons of my friends were in it. They rocked it, considering that they were doing acro in capes (yes, capes). I cheered them on from my little spot and headed back into the dressing room (which is mercifully right next to the stage). "New Kids on the Block Medley" came next, followed by "True Colors" and "The Birds" (a company number that they compete with). "Pac-Man" came and went, as did "Fame", "Pump Up The Volume", "That's What Friends Are For", and "The Heist" (another company number). I got back to the stagedoor in time to catch "Rhythm Nation" which included several of my friends as well. I believe it was around that time in which I got this picture in the mirror:

013.jpg

"Walk Like An Egyptian", "Dreams of a Child", and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" followed. I went back to the stagedoor to catch "Hey Mickey" and "Inspector Gadget". The kids in "Inspector Gadget" had class at the same time that we had our tap class, so we got to see them all the time, and they became "our kids", so, naturally, we all had to go out to see them! "Whip It!" closed out the first half. There was a 15-minute intermission.

So what did I do while in the dressing room when I wasn't at the stagedoor the first half?

*Changed back into my tank top and skirt so I wouldn't swelter in my costumes
*Kerri did my hair for jazz
*Liz sprayed my hair for jazz
*Hung out and talked
*Ate a crossaint during Intermission

Also during Intermission, Taylor, Julie, and I cornered Carrie and Tayla in the hallway. It was their last recital today, as they're off to college this fall (Carrie for hairdressing and Tayla for technology education). We read them a special speech, and they thanked us profusely. They were sad to go, and we were sad to see them go. We wish them the best of luck, and we'll miss them next year.

"Holiday" opened up the second half, followed by "I Want My MTV", and an Alvin & The Chipmunks version of "Funkytown". Back to the stagedoor I went for "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go". We threw Brianna backstage where she threw off her costume and changed into the ballet number. "Over The Waves" and "Candy Girl" came and went before "She's Got A Way". Now, I've heard this song upward of 100 times since January, sitting outside the studio door in the hall, where I spent all my "ballet breaks". Yet, I've never gotten tired of this song, or catching glimpses of it through the window or door (the few times that it's been open). They were all beautiful, my girls, and many of them flew out the door to prepare for their big hip-hop number. That's when I got this picture of Carrie (in the middle of her saying "COOL!"):

014.jpg

And this picture of Bronwyn (on the floor with the book) and Steph (on the chair):

015.jpg

I calmly watched the chaos ensue and "We Are the World", "Rock Lobster", and "Stand By Me" went on and off. I rushed to the stagedoor to wish my friends luck in "Diamond Girl", the big hip-hop number of the night (complete with a BOY! An OLDER boy! Not a little boy! You da man, Troy!). They KILLED it!

"Michael Jackson Medley" followed, and we threw Brianna back to the dressing room to change for jazz. The poor girl had so many quick-changes this year. The "Diamond Girl" girls were also in a bind, changing not only their costumes but their hair as well (removing it from the bun and into the funky 80's hairstyles). They had only a few numbers ("The Greatest Love of All", "You Got the Look", and "Life's Winding Road") before the Big One.

FLASHDANCE!

It was a medley of "Flashdance (What A Feeling)", "Maniac", and "He's A Dream".

And it.

Was.

Amazing!

So fun. So crazy. So awesome.

I'd honestly forgotten how much I loved jazz until I went without it for two years and then was thrown back into it. I love it. Not as much as tap, but I still do.

"Planet Rock" followed us, while "Battle of the Bands" closed out the show.

The awards ceremony was at the very end, as it is every year. This is the time that Seniors are recognized (there were 7 this year!), and the Outstanding Student Awards are given out. You may have remembered (if you read last year's TR) that I won one of the Outstanding Student Awards last year.

Well, guess who was one of the two this year?

KERRI!

We were all SO proud of her. She swore up one side and down the other that she wasn't going to win. She was pleasantly happy and surprised that she won. Congrats, Kerri!

So thus ends an amazing recital and the best dance year to date!

Love, Meg

What fun backstage pictures you got! I love the theme of the recital and the shirts! too cute!

Ugh, I hope math went okay.

Good for Brittany for picking up that cane and plowing through the routine! As a former dancer, I know all about messing up but smiling and continuing!

I loved the songs in your recital-- can you tell I love the 80s!

It looks like you had a really really successful dance year!! Do you plan on dancing in college? I wish I had continued!!

Hope exams are going/went well!

Hi, Rory!

Yes, we did applaud Britt for going all the way through (after we "yelled" at her for dropping her cane...especially when everything had gone perfectly in dress rehearsal!).

I love 80's music, too. I started singing along to "I Saw Him Standing There" and Brittany turned to me and said "...how do you know this song?" :rotfl:

I don't plan on dancing at my studio in college, because I'm going out-of-state (most likely), so I wouldn't be able to make it in to classes every week. I will, of course, come back for many visits, and to help out backstage at dress rehearsals/recitals. I'll most likely join a few dance clubs in college, though! :)

Overall, though, it was undoubtedly the best dance year EVER for me (and I say that almost every year). I became very close to many people, and I had so much fun and laughs.

30 days! 30 days! 30 days!

Yes, ladies and gents, boys and girls! Meg and Co. only have 30 days before they jet off to Florida!

Thanks!

The packing begins the day before we leave, almost always. :rotfl:

I do have to write out cat-care instructions soon-ish, though.

It's THIS MONTH! We leave for WDW THIS MONTH! And it's now LESS THAN A MONTH til my birthday!

To-Do List:

1. Work on summer work for school.
2. TB Awards tomorrow night...I've been putting together a mock awards show for the Teen Board on the lovely DIS. We had one back in early 2007, I believe, and this summer, we're bringing back all the "old" threads, and the older posters are coming back for a "takeover". A lot of work on these awards, but it's worth it. Tomorrow night, on the TB, at 8:00 EST!
3. Write out cat-care instructions for mom's friend Sarah (who is cat-sitting).
4. PLAN A SMALL BIRTHDAY PARTY TO BE HELD BEFORE I LEAVE FOR WDW.

Oh, and I bought my PassPorter! My first one, ever!

Thanks!

It's very cool, I'll admit.

THE SOUTHWEST VACATIONS STUFF CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY!! Just now! All our trip stuff!

That only makes it even more REAL!

I'm so excited for you, I just found this PTR and was reading it and found out that we share the same birthday! I'll be 16 this year though so you're one year older. I would be going the same dates at you are, since my gift this year is a trip to WDW with my best friend and family, but I have softball nationals that week :( So I'll be in Utah on my birthday. We leave on August 18th! Only 47 more days!! That's still a lot but it seems like so much less because I started counting down at about 230 something haha. I can't to read your TR!!

and your recital sounded like it went welll! was that rhode island college? FAVORITE STAGE EVER!!! and the backstage area is soooo nice!

:wave2:

1. We usually go to Scarborough. It's our favorite!
2. A PassPorter is a sort-of WDW Guidebook/Planning Journal/Everything. Anything and everything you need for a WDW trip is in it. You can get it at Borders or Barnes and Noble.
3. Haven't seen Rock of Ages yet...not really into it, to be honest.
4. Yep, my recital was at RIC. I love the backstage area more than anything...seriously, Roberts Hall Auditorium is my LIFE.
