OT: LOST fans?

My first impression of the plane wreckage shown in the end was that they were showing us that there were, in reality, NO survivors of the plane crash...just the wreckage on the beach.

I'm thinking those images were just to remind us how far the show had come. Christian said it had all happened...so they didn't all die in the initial crash.

I kept thinking all day today about what I'd give to pick the writers' brains on some of the meanings.

Did everyone see the Jimmy Kimmel show after Lost? He asked Michael why he wasn't in the church and he said "because I was stuck on the island-whispering" or something to that effect. So why are some "spirits" stuck on the island? They were too bad? They never found redemption?

That's what I got a few episodes back.

I think Michael just said that because that's the last time we saw him on the island, and he didn't have much more of an answer then that

I hate the way it ended. I loved everybody meeting up together and all of the reunions, but I really hated the ending.

I thought LOST was going to be this beautiful story about redemption, repentance and a need in every man and woman....so I guess that is why I was so disappointed to find that it was religious make-believe that only appeals to people that follow that one religion. I hated the "all roads lead to heaven" message that the writers and producers sent.

I actually cried during the reunions and loved the dramatic music....but felt there were so many unanswered questions.

I also thought it was very odd that Michael, Walt, Charles Widmore and others had no part in this final episode.

I am glad it is over now.

I've posted some of my thoughts so far here:

http://scifistorm.org/2010/05/24/post-lost-discussion-here-be-spoilers/

but I can see there are plenty of people here to discuss with... :)

It is true that they seemed to wrap up the Sideways line with the finale...but we never learned anything about the real power/meaning of the Island. What was the heart of the Island? How did it result in time travel? How did it turn the MiB into the Smoke Monster, and why didn't it due the same to Desmond/Jack?

As for showing the wreckage - I did think at first if they were showing us a "no survivors" shot as the "What the...?" moment, but it appeared that there was some organized items on the sand, which means there had to be survivors. I think it was a look back at the original set.

I actually think that there may not have been a true plan of getting from Point A at the beginning of the show to Point B at the end, but that they made up a few things on the way and even changed gears.

In Season 1 there were many theories that the Island was Purgatory. I think that they actually took that idea, and decided to actually incorporate it in Season 6 - but backwards.

Strange how it affected everyone differently because just what you were looking for in a beautiful story is what I thought we got: a story of redemption, repentance and a need-the need to find your purpose and your soul "mates" (for lack of a better word as mentioned in that thread posted above).

I thought they did a beautiful job in spanning ALL religions and beliefs. But it is true that the writers definitely didn't fear tackling religion (albeit in code). And that's what I loved about this series. They weren't afraid to believe the viewers were intelligent enough to not only hypothesize about the hidden meanings but that the viewers WANTED to do that. And there lies the intrigue with the series for everyone.

I think LOST was a groundbreaking piece of work that hasn't been done before, and probably never will again. We can all say "I remember watching LOST when it originally aired".

I thought of the scene right before hand with Jack laying on the ground and the dog (what was his name ?) laying next to him.

Was this their subtle way of saying the dog had died as well ? He was lying in an odd position for a dog, kind of lifeless looking. Perhaps this entire show took place in a dying man's mind - in Jack's imagination

I actually had that thought too, that Jack was the only survivor and he lived only long enough to make it to that spot and die with the dog.

i thought that too when i saw the wreckage....and i said it outloud...DD practically killed me when i said it...she refused to buy that possibility..

i'm ok with it either way - the whole thing in the mind of a dying man, or that it really happened....what happened happened?

either way, i enjoyed going for the ride...though the church scene only makes sense in the context of the island life actually having occurred....but none of it really happened anyway...it's just a tv show :)

on jimmy kimmel, mathew fox said that he knew from the beginning of the series 6 years ago that he was going to die at the end and that it would end with his eye closing....

i have a feeling the writers knew only that much when they started on the series...that much of the rest they made up as they went along.....either way, it was entertaining...

Did I miss it... how in the world did they dig up Ben from under that tree?

I think that was the only blatant gaffe that bothered me. Otherwise, Im good.

so considering this is ABC and therefore Disney, any hope it will become a WDW attraction? a comeback to WWOHP?

so what would it be? which park would it be in?

Well considering the theme parks don't do a ton of cross over from the parks I doubt it will become an attraction...that said if it were to make an appearance at the parks it would be at MGM and I could see it replacing the Narnia walk through (having props etc from the set) or become a part of the backlot tour

Well, I thought the wreckage at the end was them just showing us shots of an empty set...I didn't even think of it as being related to the story at all. Guess I was WAY off! :)

I read that it wasn't the producers that put the empty set shots at the end of the episode and that those shots weren't seen in Canada when it was broadcast so it wasn't an intregal part of the storyline. I think it was so that where there is normally a preview of next weeks episode or another TV show, they left it alone and needed to fill the space with something. I don't think it had anything to do with the storyline at all.

I'm hoping to find out that bad bit of editing when the DVD comes out. It's supposed to have more footage on it. But yes, there was no point on the tree falling on Ben.

After I watched the episode I was left with this weird feeling. I've been describing it to people, when they ask me what I thought of it, as 33% cop-out, 33% genius and 33% (shrug). Still processing. Love the series, not sure I loved the ending...

That's good to know, because it had me completely confused as to what that was supposed to mean
