We really wanted to book Alaska and love DCL but are going back and forth about the $600 deposit (looking to book 12 people in 5 cabins). Part of the reason is that apparently Silver CC members are not as valuable to DCL as Gold and Platinum.:confused3 I understand DCL giving more to those who have sailed more often and even the opportunity to book early but to not extend the 1/2 price deposit to all CC members really makes me stop and think! And just putting it out there but I wonder how long it will take the parks and resorts to start rewarding those who frequent them.

I know, right? :confused3 We mean no more to them than the peeps who have never cruised before on DCL.

I spoke with a supervisor on Tuesday who told me if you have the 1/2 price offer on a reservation that you are transferring, then you still get the benefit of the 1/2 price deposit when tranferring your reservation on Monday. So...for Alaska, we paid $125 deposit. Alaska will be $600, 1/2 will be $300, so Monday we have to pay an additional $175 per person. That's what he confirmed, but seems like you always get different answers depending on who you speak with at DCL.

I really think they have bus drivers from WDW answering the DCL phones.:lmao: Everyone gets a different answer!

its on your first post to this thread and it is typed right between the list of prices for the 5/3/2011 alaska cruise and the 5/10/2011 alaska cruise. i was wondering that too as if i remember correctly one of the dates was noted that all cat 6 and 7 cabins are booked already.

I meant that I can't find the post that was made where that information came from. The first time that it was noted 7s were sold out was wrong because it was from someone who was looking for a stateroom for 4 people and 7s only sleep 3 so the fact that it did not show up for them did not mean that it was sold out.

The person who gave the information above had 2 adults in their room so 7s would have shown up for them if they had wanted to book them. They had a detailed conversation with the DVC CM.

Just a note that this thread will be locked but remain stuck at the top of the forum on Monday morning so that all quotes obtained on 9/28 and after are kept on the same thread. :)

ah ok..i must have missed where the DVC and head count had entered in all that.. thought it was just a general booking. makes sence to thy rusty and worn out brain cells now :rotfl2:

Just a note here - if a DVC Member is told by Member Services that a particular category is "sold out" it does not necessarily mean that is the case for the cash paying public.

DVC is typically allotted a certain number of staterooms that may be booked on points. They do not have the run of the ship so to speak. So, for example, a category 7 may be unavailable for a member booking on points, but it may be available through DCL for those booking on regular cash.

Just thought that might be playing into the scenario here... :)

Hey folks...got another question. Don't know if I've missed it or not...kinda been in & out of this thread over the past week...

I know most are saying no more 50% deposit now (even tho when I called DCL the other day their "official" answer they gave me was to call on Monday to see what the system does with our curr. ressie). ANYWAY...whatever. If they want the full deposit they ain't gettin' it from me.

But so do we know if we still get to keep the 10% re-booking discount? Have they said anything about taking that away too??? :confused3 'Cuz that would REALLY be the nail in their coffin in my book... Just wondered if that's been discussed at all...this thread is just too darned big for me to keep up with now.... TIA!

What I can say is last Monday, as I have a suite I lost the 50% deposit allowanace and had to pay full deposit, I also lost my On board 10% discount buts thats normal for a suite, and I think that does transfer to the current ships, (not the Dream).

Rules for 50% discount, have been 1/ book online or book on the ship, 2/ whilst offer is available, 3/ not for phone bookings or where TA books by phone.

The 100% deposit thing is correct. If you try to book any reservation now on the DCL website its asking for the full deposit.

Well, there will be no suites for this little girl from podunk so your scenario is different. :lmao: That would be funny. Me in a suite. :rotfl: This whole week has been frustrating. I kept checking for Med price updates. Just wish I could've gotten pricing for a couple of the Meds in a couple of the categories that we'd be interested in. Suites & Cat 5's are out for us. I wanted to compare a 10 n on 8/10 with an 11 n on 7/30. I know I can't afford "normal" balconies and have to at least have a porthole and I wish I could even find out if any of the old SPH rooms were still available. I would take 1 of 4 of those if they were. (But not interested in the 2 w/ the most obstructions...) SOOO much up in the air. Silly silly SILLY DCL. :headache: This would've been soooo much easier if we could "shop" online. And now with all the diff. room categories it's so much more time consuming to compare. :sad2: DU has my ressie...so I am in a wait & see holding pattern I guess. And to top it all off this is just a backup plan in case we can't get what we want on the Dream!! DOH!!! Would've been SO much simpler if they'd have released that info. at the same time...

Good luck and as they always sing...someday your suite will come.....with a bit of pixie dust.

That is one thing that has not been mentioned or suggested. The 10% is still part of the OBB deal. :thumbsup2

Well, why didn't you say so before? You may have but I missed it. Anyhow, I just got off the phone with a sweet CM who said my call was the first one she has had requesting Med quotes all week.

7/30 11 night C10A 2A2K 10,12 $8766.64 [each kid $1611.66] [no ins/trns]
7/30 11 night C09A 2A2K 10,12 $9946.64 [each kid $1711.66] [no ins/trns]

8/10 10 night C10A 2A2K 10,12 $7226.64 [each kid $1211.66] [no ins/trns]
8/10 10 night C09A 2A2K 10,12 $8346.64 [each kid $1311.66] [no ins/trns]

Right now there are at least 4 SPHs available including 5020 & 5520 on each cruise.

I just wanted to say, thanks for this awesome thread... and I think it is so nice how everyone is so willing to help one another out with quotes, etc. I can't wait until Monday! Looking forward to securing a 6/14 verandah stateroom... Alaska, here we come!!!

OMG!! :worship: THANK YOU!!! :worship: Lisa!! :worship: Seriously!!???:yay: OMG!! YOU don't know HOW I've wondered about this ALL FREAKING WEEK!!! We are only a family of 3 AND we have our 10% discount....so if my math is right and I take 1 kid off the 11 nighter and then take off the 10% we're looking at just under $6,500 for the Cat 10A!!:thumbsup2 and just over $5,400 for the 10 nighter!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 My son will be 14 by then so the exact amt. for him would be a few dollars more but still....in round numbers...A difference of $1,100 for one night. Hummm...that is $366.66 per person to have an extra sea day inbetween all those ports.... What do ya'll think of that??? That's pretty steep right???

Oh, and BTW you didn't miss anything you've been wonderful all week...and all's I did all week was "look" at the front page post for Med cruises in general...I never said EXACTLY what I was looking for!! Now I'm distraught over this whole full deposit thing.

OMG....should I stop being so freaking stubborn about this full deposit?? Gheeesh LeeAnn! :rolleyes1 Now I'm gettin' excited. $5,500ish for the 10 nighter....

OH...one more question for ya'll... we've been in 5520 before....it doesn't have the steamer trunk....maybe only a slightly better view....do we think 5522 or 5022 would be worth it to have the steamer (IF either of those are avail.)?? Likely those are the ones that are already taken...but just in case? Any thoughts out there? I've heard since those are adjoining rooms they're noisier?! Anybody?? (For being a family of 3 we can certainly make a lot of noise...would hate to be "that" family next door all week!

I figured about $6550 for the 10A 11 night too so that is close. It might be less but I always guestimate a little bit more for the fees & taxes.

I commented to the CM that there was quite a bit of difference for an extra day at sea...no brainer decision on that one ... that is JMHO. ;)

I can understand your feelings BUT the thing you need to decide is do you want to go or not. You might be surprised and get the 50% but look at that as a surprise and not expected. If you wait to book the price might go up and then you will be paying more for being stubborn. ;)

Personally, while I would pick 5020 or 5520 over the 24s if they were all given as options, I would book a 24 if it was the only SPH available. You get a porthole for $1120 less than a reg cat 8 on the 10 night and $1280 less on the 11 night. Is having those little canisters out of sight really worth that much money to you? We booked 5022 for our Alaska cruise. On our 3rd cruise the family in the adjoining room was noisier at night than the family in the connecting room. Someone snored like a giant buzzsaw and it woke me up at 2 am...only time I have ever been woken up on the ship in the middle of the night. When we were supposed to have 5020 one cruise I planned on taking one of those hanging sweater holders like the shoe holders with cubed spaces to put folded things in since you don't have the steamer trunk.

I take ear plugs just in case.

:lmao: My DH can snore like that if he doesn't wear those breathe right things!! Like if he falls asleep on the couch I can't hear the TV w/o turning it up!! :rotfl2: I buy the BIG boxes of Breathe Rights at Costco now! :worship:

I think the big canisters WOULD bother me on the 24 rooms. Let's hope Monday am they still have 5020 or 5520 or the 22's. Enough so that for the diff. between a 9A on the 10 n and the 10A on the 11 n it's not that much difference to just do the extra night.:rolleyes1 Yes, if we could only get the 24 rooms on the 10 nighter and then therefore would book a 9A then it would only be $430 more to book a 10A on the 11 nighter... Do I think too much? DOH! That's why I'm Anal Annie!

I know I should not cut my nose off just to spite DCL... I am just really irked with them about them cutting off the 50% dep. before the silver members can book. That just seems wrong that we can't xfer it as an existing deposit. I have no problem with the idea of coming up with the diff. between the $125 we have on file now and the $300. It's just that full deposit thing that irritates me. Being a silver member means absolutely nothing now. Sniff sniff. My feelings are hurt!:guilty:
