VR Dress question

Must admit though i ve found it difficult not showing him the pic, we are a very very close couple & before we buy any clothing we always make sure the other one likes it. Id love for him to see my dress just to know what he thinks. I totally agree that even if he sees it he ll still have no idea what it ll look like on. A point that i ve said to him, but hes adament that he wants everything to be a big surprise.

We are exactly the same way!! :rotfl: We are very, very close (probably too close) and have to tell each other everything!! :goodvibes

The "you can't see me in the dress" latest all of 2 seconds, well, a little longer than that...we ordered the dress and agreed he would not see it on me until I walk down the aisle, but when the dress came in he HAD to come and watch me try it on, and to be honest I was so excited I WANTED him to see it, more than anyone else! But trying it on with no makeup on etc doesn't have the same impact as the actual wedding day when I'm all DOLLED up, so I hope he is still surprised! We are no longer waiting until "walking down the aisle" to see each other either. He will be staying with his parents at the Shades of Green, I'll be getting ready at the AKL...the plan is for the limo to pick up Joe, my brother & his parents at the Shades of Green and go to the AKL to pick me, my mother, Kaitlyn & Hannah up...we plan on meeting and seeing each other for the first time on the BRIDGE that goes across the AKL lobby (it's our favorite spot) :goodvibes

Interesting to see what others are doing! Maybe I should approach this more as an anniversary party instead of a true vow renewal? I'm not sure what I should call it! With the exception of actually wanting to renew our vows in some way, I'm really thinking of it more as a party with our friends and family, instead of having the traditional elements of a wedding. A cake would be fun, but other than that, I don't feel the need for fancy decorations, music, flowers, etc, etc. I really want to celebrate 13 years of marriage and 3 kids, but I had a nice wedding and just personally don't feel the need to "re-do" a wedding (NOT that there's anything wrong with that, just saying I don't personally wish for that).

I guess I have to really think about this...

Tracey, I just did it in January, and I have to say, it didn't really feel like a wedding per se. My son was very excited to be part of the "ceremony" and we did cut the cake with everyone around, and he kept saying..."I'm part of this family, what about me." We let him cut the cake, dance with us, and he held our rings. The entire VR is only 1 hour, so it flies by. The music is really in the background--piano--and it is whatever you want it to be. If there are only a few of you, you can have the ceremony on the deck...we couldn't fit otherwise we would have opted for that. I originially was going to have a summer dress, but while at David's Bridals spotted this great halter style gown that I loved and it was only $99, which I would have paid for a really nice cocktail dress anyway.

Also, it was nice to have the captain to ourselves for the 30 minutes, and everyone got to meet him and have their picture taken with him.

But, as you said, it is your time, and you should spend it anyway you wish....but they will do what ever you want, and it was very Magical!!!

Cheryl

Thanks so much for your feedback Cheryl! Your pictures are lovely. :) I know our kids will be thrilled with whatever we end up doing - they love looking at our wedding photos (although they still seem insulted they weren't there, lol!)

Dh and I are actually going out on a date night on Thursday night (first time in way too long) and it's on the agenda to start talking about what we might want.

My husband knew my dress was peach but that was it. We had our vow renewal on May 27 and the first time he saw me in the dress was when I emerged from our bedroom in our GV at OKW for us to go have our MK photo shoot. It was great waiting to show him until the day. Also, my VR felt exactly like a wedding although we did not do garter, bouquet or dancing. I definitely felt like it was a wedding though and we all loved every minute of it. Once I get a few pictures, I will start a trip report :goodvibes :wizard:

Our plans for a VR are just family maybe a few friends( approx 27) and basically fun! I have a fancier dress(not poofy) just because that what I wanted ( I made my original wedding gown) but Dh will be wearing goofy vest and tie with nice dress pants and our 2 DDs will be wearing dresses. I will wear a tiara not veil. We are planning for a wishes VR in 2010 for our 20th anniversary. we plan on having ceremony, cake meal etc.and dp with some extras keying on fun and family. music but no dancing or other traditional things. best of luck with your planning and welcome!:goodvibes

Thanks! It's fun for me to hear what others are planning. Congrats on approaching 20 years! I have a pretty good idea of what we want for our "party" afterwards - I feel like we have several good options for that. It's just a matter of whether we want to actually pay the money for the formality of the vow renewal ceremony (versus being able to stay in a nicer resort for the week and having more flexibility in paying for the big dinner). Heck, it might even stay up in the air for the next year while we see what happens financially!

Goodluck! there are def options to explore and def you can plan things how you would like! We have enjoyed many wonderful activities at disney.... best wishes:goodvibes

Mine has seen what I want, but our VR is so far off that I haven't tried anything on yet... and he will see it, but my hubby helped me pick my wedding dress out the first time and saw me in it many many times before the wedding.

Okay can some of you post your VR dresses safely without him seeing? I would love to see what my more mature sisters are looking at! lol

Here is my dress:

I don't have a full length picture of my dress yet but you can be sure I will post one soon! Until then, this will give an idea of my mature look, keeping in mind that I had to find a longer sleeve due to a rare skin condition I have. My dress is full length with no train but manages to look princessy anyway :goodvibes

That's too funny!! My dd says the same thing!! "Why wasn't I at your wedding? I wanted to dance with you!" :lmao:

Mature!! Hey, i'm only 31!!;) But, this is also for a 10th, and most everyone else is doing a 20th or 25th. So i'll settle for being lumped in with the mature girls! ;)

This is my dress, minus the horrible blank angry expression on my face.

I'm almost 34 and planning our 13th (I'll be 36 at the time) but I'll gladly consider myself a "mature girl" also! I love everyone's dresses!

1 more post, than i'm done for now, i promise! :lmao:

Tracyr13 - originally dh and I had planned on an escape VR at WL. It was still only going to be a few people, but once we saw Cheryl's TR :thumbsup2 on her VR on DCL we knew that was so much more us. We did have the big traditional wedding back in 2000 when we got married, and it was a lovely ceremony. But it wasn't what we really wanted. Our original plan was to elope to Jamaica! :rotfl2: but the parents didn't like that idea, so we had the big church wedding and reception. Now, we're doing it our way. Right on the beach, in the sand, with our children. I'm planning on the ceremony being more of a family ceremony, rather than reciting vows again. Probably, it'll only be us, our children, my best friend who was my MOH when we got married, and my parents. Small cake reception afterwards, and that's it!

I did end up telling dh last night about the dress, and even showed him the picture online at Davidsbridal.com. He really liked it, and said it was a good choice for the beach ceremony as it looked very light. He laughed at me when i told him i knew it was light and airy, as i had tried it on already. I'll pick it up on Thursday after class, and then we'll just see what he says.

I'll be 33 for our 10th VR. :thumbsup2

We got some flack for getting married so young. Blah blah you're too young, you don't know how to handle a marriage, stuff like that. So, in a sense, this is to throw it back at them! :lmao:

I have seen everyone dresses before posted ,but they are all so pretty! They are nice to look at. all alittle different than the others. For the record , I have no problem being part of the more mature crowd. Heck I have two teenagers and have been with dh more than half my life and wouldn't have it could not imagine it any other way. We met when we were 18 in college....ages ago!:goodvibes
