Commercial renting website

And what else is very interesting is how much investment this person has made in DVC over the last couple of years. In looking at the property that is deeded to him and a significant other from the Orange County property site, what I see is they have over $83,000+ in points purchased at BCV, BWV and SSR during 2004-2005.

That's one heck of a lot of personal vacation time!

OK DISNEY NEEDS TO STEP IN WITH THAT TYPE OF ABUSE....

forgive me if i dont see the above average and even
very rich family utilizing those points......

OK THATS INSANE....help disney.....if this is not abuse of
the rules i dont know what is?

OBVIOUS ABUSE..

double posted sorry!!!

I can't imagine that anyone savvy enough to read the Disboards and know about the commericial renting restrictions would be foolish enough to create such a blatantly commerical renting website designed specifically to undercut and compete with CRO. That's like waving a flag and begging Disney legal to take action against you.

Sorry see below.

Now this I disagree with.

I owned over 1400 points at one time. Does that make me a bad guy or a commercial renter? No it did not.

People can do what they want with their points, period. This person pays dues just like you or I.

Point morphing would be the only problem and I see no evidence of that.

Renting points seems to be the latest Dis board witch hunt and I really don't get it.:confused3 What difference does it make if that owner books for themselves all the weeks or rents? Booked rooms are booked rooms regardless of who stays in them.

I for one won't lose a seconds sleep over this.

WOW! I think that it is a good thing that Disney is apparently making an attempt to stop this type of rental behavior with the current policy of cancelling reservations for apparent rental patterns. I wonder how many more of these are out there? Also, as someone mentioned, is this really different than the RT boards? Or how about the one time I used my employers classified site to rent out extra points?

Would you really set up a website to rent out 200 points once a year?

Lawyers love to look at intentions, setting up a website is not someone who is casually renting points because plans changed for their vacation. This is a person who appears to be providing a service, selling rooms at SSR,BCV, BWV and VWl at a discount to rates if you booked through Expedia, travel agent, etc.

Good point. Have a great weekend!

Oh, heck, there are people who set up a websites to do absolutely nothing! If you are kind of geeky and enjoy that sort of thing, it's no big deal to throw together a website just to see what it would look like. (I've done it myself) And in these days of $3.95 domains from GoDaddy and fairly cheap hosting available, it's really no demonstration of business existence. As a matter of fact, people should use caution when doing "business" with someone just because they have a website. A web presence does not a real business make.

That being said, this one looks commercial (JMHO) but really, 1000 points isn't really enough to run much of a business on. We run through 450 points a year fairly easily without even trying. If we added a Christmas time trip (my dream!), extended our Food & Wine trip an extra week and added a quick visit to HHI (which I LOVE), we could pop 1000 points pretty quick.

It's a good thing the internet didn't exist back in 1692 or nobody would have made it out of Salem alive.
Despite the lack of Internet, my sources tell me that no one from Salem in 1692 actually made it out alive anyway. They tell me they're all "gone."

As mentioned earlier there is a copyright issue to say the least with the pictures and floor plans they are using. Using images in signatures etc. is one thing but using them on a website in which someone is trying to make a product is another. I'm sure the Cirque folks would love to see their image used without permission. I bet the sites will be gone soon.

Well forget commercial renting and the DVC contract. I sure wouldn't want Cirque and Disney after me for copyright infringement!

ummm why exactly is using copyrighted images in signatures more okay than using them elsewhere...also without permission?

I dont have a problem with this. If he has 1000 or 1500 points and cant use all of them every year he has to do something with them. Disney rents points commercially all the time. As long as they own the points as far as I'm concerned they are free to do what they will with them.

Someday someone will figure out how to process rentals for individual owners without actually renting points themselves. You could do that on a hugely commercial scale without violating the POS. What will Disney do then? That would be no different than going through a real estate broker to rent a beach house. In a way the DIS is doing that already for free. Does that make them Dr. Evil?

You are correct it is not really right to use these images in signatures etc. but since it is not for profit most people usually get away with it.

If it were my image and I found that someone had just basically went to my website to grab images for their website that they were then using to re-sell something for a profit. I would be more upset with that than someone stating that they are members of a certain resort.

By law though, anyone using them without permission is wrong.

How did you get this information?

BTW, have you checked out the # of pts to rent a grand villa at BWV? $83K in points doesnt last long.

My family did, despite 2 of our ancestors being hanged for witchcraft. And speaking of Salem, I was just back there to visit family and friends in Oct., and then off to our DVC at VWL for F &W.

Okay, I have found another website by the same folks: www.mouseavenue.com

And just for kicks check this out
http://getwaterfront.com/aboutus.aspx

Looks to me like they may have more than 1000 points considering they talk about helping 100s of customers take affordable vacations.

Definitely seems commercial to me!

Both of these sites and the one in the OP are offered by the same people - they even state that in the "aboutus" page.

It will be interesting to see how long they last or if changes are made in the graphic content.
