Hellooooooooooooo! Welcome to a Clarf trip report! I'm starting it later than I had hoped, but after our trip I came back to 38 voicemails and 32 emails at work and haven't caught up yet. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago. And then school started. And gymnastics. And Brownies. And I just couldn't find a spare minute. But finally, here I sit! No more excuses!

This is about our trip to The World in August of 2015. We left our humble abode August 19th and were at Disney from August 20th-25th. Not long enough, but at least we got to go! We then spent 3 days with my in-laws at their house near Crystal River. We arrived back in Milwaukee on August 30th, just in time for school to start! I hope you re-live our adventure with me!

Who are we, you ask? Well, this is me with one of my idols:

Clare aka Clarf. Recently 40. Trip planner. Assistant Patron Services Manager at a professional theater company. PTO volunteer. Personal chauffer. Mom. Wife. Animal lover. Also exhausted.

I didn't visit WDW for the first time until I was 26. My parents never took us as kids. We went to DL when I was 7 and I loved it. The first time I walked down Main Street USA at WDW, I was hooked. My then-boyfriend-now-husband (who you'll meet next) took me there. He's the best. My favorite ride is Haunted Mansion.

This is my husband, Jason. I can't stop laughing at this picture.

He's 36. Quality Assurance Specialist for a software company. Loves computers, smart phones, magic bands, and anything else electronic that he can get his hands on. Sometimes I believe he wishes he could be married to his phone. His grandparents lived in Florida, so he visited them often as a kid and had many trips to WDW. He took me there for the first time so we could swing dance at Atlantic Dance at Disney's Boardwalk.

Here we are, young, thin, and I was super blond. We were 26 and 21. Sigh.

Clearly this was taken before digital cameras. The quality isn't good, but at least we have it documented! We went to the parks by day and went to Atlantic Dance by night. We weren't smart enough to know to stay on property, but we learned.

Jason's favorite ride is Space Mountain. He also loves food!

Next is Lucy.

She's 8. She'll be 9 this Saturday (9/19). Rule follower. Do Gooder. Kind to everyone. Gymnast. Actress. Master of naming all 50 states. Thrill ride junkie. She rode Goliath at the Six Flags near our house over the weekend. It has an 85 degree drop. It didn't even phase her.

She's a born Disney nut. Her first trip was when she was 18 months old. She loved it. This was her 5th visit and she's already making plans for when we go back. In 2 years. I promised I'd take my kids to Disney World since my parents never took me.

Her favorite ride is Space Mountain.

Last is Maura.

She's 6. Going on 16. She follows no rules but her own. Talks constantly. CONSTANTLY! Only quiet when she's asleep. Makes up songs. Loves gymnastics, dancing, and doing whatever we tell her not to. Picking up the dog and cat even when they clearly don't want to be. The complete opposite of her sister, but they really compliment each other. Her laugh is amazing. She's hilarious.

Also a born Disney nut. This was her 3rd trip, her first being just after she turned 3. She loves Stitch and Minnie. Her favorite ride is Dumbo.

So, this is us. We were joined by our good friends from Milwaukee for the first 2 days of the trip. You'll meet them later, but their names are Bill, Karyn, and Indiana, aka Indy. This trip wouldn't have happened without them. Karyn had a convention in Orlando the week before our trip. She knew about it over a year in advance, before our trip last year even. She said she and Bill wanted to take Indy to Disney for a few days, and who better to go with than the K-G family? So, we booked the bounce back offer for free dining while we were there in 2014 and it all worked out!

I hope you stick around for our story!

So, you met us. Great. But here's a little background about the trip. I thought about doing a PTR, but just didn't have time. So here's the condensed version.

Like I said, we booked this trip last September on a bounce back. Luckily, the first day of our trip, August 20th, was the first day the bounce back for free dining was available! That's our favorite promo, so we were excited. We didn't tell the kids, because we weren't sure if we'd be able to afford to go or if things would happen that wouldn't make it possible for a trip 2 years in a row. We are usually every other year people (I know, the horror!), but since our friends NEEDED us, we had to at least try. We made the ressie and then just kind of pretended it didn't exist for a while. We went about our business. Halloween happened, which is huge in our house. Then Thanksgiving and Christmas. We rang in 2015 with our BFFs and Cards Against Humanity.

Finally, it was tax season. This would determine if we could make the trip again or not. We usually get a decent return, and this year was no exception, but it wasn't as much as we'd hoped. Still, we though it was enough to work out. We started making little payments every week on the trip to ease the burden. There were a few bumps along the way, but we made it work! (obviously, or I wouldn't be writing this report). We still hadn't told the kids by the time school was out in June. We decided we'd be sure the trip was paid off and wait for our Magic Bands to arrive and that's how we'd tell them.

I knew the bands were coming. Mickey Mouse wrote the girls a letter and it was on top of the package. We told them on July 22nd that they got a package in the mail that day. They had no idea what it was. Lucy saw the envelope, which had pictures of all 4 park icons on it, and thought it was something from the Disney Store. Weren't they surprised! Here is the video of them finding out. There is a cameo by our obese cat Tinka and please excuse my messy house!

Needless to say they were excited. The next 3 1/2 weeks were filled with the excitement of getting ready for the trip. They talked about it non-stop. We made autograph books for the girls and one for Indy a couple weeks before. Here's how they turned out.

Fronts:

Backs:

The girls picked out their own stickers and did all the decorating on their own.

My dad and stop mom were kind enough to let us use their mini-van again. We're really hoping they just give it to us, but so far, we haven't been that lucky. We'll take what we can get, though. It's so nice not having to hoist the Big Mac onto the top of the car and get worse gas mileage from the wind resistance on that sucker. We picked her up the night before and got her all packed up. Our goal was to leave by 5am and get around Chicago before rush hour started. We learned our lesson last year by leaving at 7am. How did we fair? Well, you'll have to wait on that one. You should be amazed I got this much done already!

BTW, for anyone who read last year's report, my hair did better this year even though I think it was even hotter. I think I got better at making it stay up. There were a few bad moments, but overall, I was pleased. And the blisters didn't disappoint!

Talk to you all soon!

Woo hoo, here we go! Subbing in, and loving it so far.

Cool surprise for the girls!

Woo hoo, here we go! Subbing in, and loving it so far.

Glad you are here!

Cool surprise for the girls!

IT was really fun to surprise them. I just can't believe we managed to keep it secret for so long. There were several times we almost blew it.

Hi Clare! I'm excited to read about your trip.

Yes, August is HOT! It didn't seem to bother me in EPCOT but I was suffering big time in MK. Ugh.

Loved the young picture of you & Jason. You look so much like Lucy!

We rang in 2015 with our BFFs and Cards Against Humanity.

That's exactly what we did. We love Cards Against Humanity (and supplement that with cards from Crabs Against Humidity). The cards are SO inappropriate but it sure is fun. My MIL plays with us and she always seems to win. Wonder what that says about her? o_O

I MADE IT!!! YAY so happy your writing one!

Not long enough,

No. But is there ever a long enough time there!? LOL

Who are we, you ask? Well, this is me with one of my idols:

OMG Betty White is the best woman on the PLANET!

Wife. Animal lover. Also exhausted.

Yep.. i can relate! LOL..

We were 26 and 21. Sigh.

Hubba Hubba..
You guys look great!

She'll be 9 this Saturday (9/19).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Hi Clare! I'm excited to read about your trip.

:welcome: Hello! So glad you made it over!

Yes, August is HOT! It didn't seem to bother me in EPCOT but I was suffering big time in MK. Ugh.

Yeah, I think MK and AK were the worst for us this year. We found ways to deal with it.

Loved the young picture of you & Jason. You look so much like Lucy!

Thanks! I get that I look like Lucy a lot. She's my mini-me!

That's exactly what we did. We love Cards Against Humanity (and supplement that with cards from Crabs Against Humidity). The cards are SO inappropriate but it sure is fun. My MIL plays with us and she always seems to win. Wonder what that says about her? o_O

LOL! I've never played with my MIL, but I have with my mom. She loved it, but we did have to explain a few things to her.

I MADE IT!!! YAY so happy your writing one!

Yay, you're here! :yay: I'm glad I'm writing one too. I can re-live it then.

No. But is there ever a long enough time there!? LOL

No, not really.

OMG Betty White is the best woman on the PLANET!

I adore here. She's still rocking it at what, 93?

Yep.. i can relate! LOL..

I know you can. You're even busier than me!

Hubba Hubba..
You guys look great!

Aw, thanks! We were hot once. :rotfl2:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Thank you! I'll show this to her later!

I read this on Facebook! HUGE CONGRATS!!!

She did a great job!

2017? Dang it this might be my year off!

It's not for sure yet. We are trying to convince our BFFs to go with us.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

It's not an untrue statement!

I was shocked when i saw the pictures on Facebook!!! What the! she didn't tell me! LOL..

Oh no, you would have been informed had there been a PTR.

O.M.G.
you have got to be kidding me!!! He wants to see us? Why? this is the best EVER look how sweet they are! so happy and the HUGE-- THANK YOUS!!! the kids are just so sweet! SO SO SWEET! Love this!

They were so excited and really so grateful and thankful. It was so much fun to see them so excited.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Yeah, lesson totally learned. You'll see it went much better this year.

I was wondering about this...

It was better for sure.

oh no still with blisters?!?

Yeah. I can't win!

Can't wait for the next update! Excited to find out how long it took you to get there?

You'll find out hopefully by tomorrow night. I have to bake a cake for a bake sale tonight, but we'll see how early I can get that done.

Joining in!

:welcome: Thanks for joining!

Day 1: Wednesday, August 19th.

I set the alarm for 4:15am. The van had been loaded the night before except for a few last-minute items. The kids were easy to pry out of bed with the promise of Disney the next day. Jason gets up this early every day, so it wasn't a stretch for him. We brushed our teeth, took out the dog, fed the cat and hamster, and we were set to go. Our goal was to leave by 5:00. We pulled out of the driveway at 5:22 which was pretty good in my book!

Here are the girls raring to go.

It was still dark out! I haven't been up that early since I left for the hospital to have Maura. Thankfully, at that unGodly hour, there weren't many cars on the road. By 6:08 we were in Illinois. By 6:24 everyone was sleeping except for me. I nudged Jason and told him he'd have to wake up as we got closer to Chicago as I needed some pictures and couldn't take them myself. He grudgingly agreed. He did a decent job! This is what I got.

He added his feet. Thankfully they were clean.

Traffic was amazing. It's never been so easy driving through Chicago. The only place we slowed down a little was near Comisky park, but we always seem to slow down there. And it wasn't a bad slow down. We never stopped. In no time at all, we were seeing this.

The Skyway Toll Bridge! I waved to Chicago Mo as we went by. I know she lives around there somewhere. THis was my lame attempt at capturing the sunrise while not looking at my camera.

By 7:18 we were in Indiana! Just under 2 hours since we left home. So far, we were making great time and we were around the vicious beast of traffic that is Chicago. We drove for a while and soon were driving by this

A giant windmill farm that seems to go on forever. I know some people don't like it, but I think it looks so cool.

Soon we were driving by Indianapolis. There is just 1 crap picture, but at least it's documented!

At 9:21 we made our first gas stop. We still had plenty, but someone (probably Jason) had to use the bathroom. Getting back in the car, Jason took the wheel for a bit. We passed this bridge that I always remember driving by so I took a picture.

We actually stopped at a hotel on the way home at that exit!

Here's a scenic shot from the drive. Indian is real exciting to drive through, let me tell you.

At 11:28 we passed Flloyd's Knobs, Indiana. That holds no significance except I thought the name was funny and snickered like a child.

We were nearing the Kentucky state line. Our GPS lady, who we had named Linda, was telling us there was a 60 minute delay coming up. WHAT?!?!?!?! I didn't want to hear that. Thankfully, Linda knew a shortcut and we lost no time at all. They were doing major construction just after you went over the bridge entering Kentucky. Linda took us off the freeway, onto a frontage road, and back on the freeway to bypass the construction. It literally took 5 minutes. We were driving past all these sad saps in their cars who didn't have good ole Linda to tell them to get off and right back on. I wanted to kiss Linda, but she's not a real person.

It was 11:56am when we crossed the Kentucky state line. I took a few pics before we went over the bridge. Here's Louisville.

This little shop we saw during our short detour. Come on, really?

Might be interesting, but we didn't feel like stopping. We had a mouse to see.

Once out of Louisville, the scenery started to get prettier.

The girls watching the first of many movies. I'm so grateful for that portable DVD player. You have no idea. I believe the movie-of-the-moment was Napolean Dynamite. I love that movie.

Lucy was cold and we hadn't brought a blanket in the car so she improvised with her pillowcase. Hey, whatever works!

We stopped for lunch at 1:30. None of us had really eaten, so it was time. This place was off our exit and the girls desperately wanted to stop. I'll admit, it sounded pretty cool, but we had to keep pressing on. We said we promised to stop some other time.

We filled our tank since we stopped, but we'd only used about 1/4 a tank since our last stop. That van gets amazing gas mileage. It shows how many gallons/mile you're getting, and at one point we were at 28.7 MPG. On a minivan. Our Scion and Corolla don't even get that. The gas station we picked was super deluxe. They had a Subway AND a Sonic inside. The kids and I got sandwiches from Subway and Jason got some concoction from Sonic, but we all got a slush because, slush.

No pictures of this food. Sorry. You've all seen Subway and Sonic, I'm sure.

Back in the car and I was back behind the wheel. We took our food to go so as not to wast any precious time.

I think this is Lucy's attempt at taking a nap?

Maura actually not talking! I can tell because her mouth is all the way closed. Doesn't mean she wasn't humming or something, though.

...continued in next post

At 2:34 we were in Tennessee! I have no picture of the state sign. Guess why? Yep. Jason didn't take one. In his defense though, I don't know that I reminded him. He was probably making out with his phone. He did take some pictures of Nashville, though, so he's forgiven.

After Nashville, Tennessee gets really pretty and mountainous. We almost always drive through that part at night, so it was nice to see it during the day. Linda told us we'd have a 30 minute delay due to an accident and she didn't have a detour this time since we were in the mountains. It wasn't too bad though, and we got through it pretty quickly. Up up up the mountain we went. Then you get to the top and they give you a warning that there is a I believe 6% grade going down the hill? However much it is, you pretty much don't need to hit the gas at all going down it. And they have these scary runaway truck ramps for semis that can't stop. Thankfully, I have NEVER seen one being used and I hope I never have to.

Safely down the hill, it started to rain. Not a little. A lot. Like buckets. It was a little daunting. Like everyone slowed down to about 20 MPH on the freeway. It was thankfully short lived though. Just one big, dark cloud.

At 4:14 we made another gas/potty stop. This was more of a potty stop as I can see by looking at my notes we only spent $12.13 to fill our tank this stop.

We kept on trucking and at 5:32, after a teaser where we drive through Georgia for like 5 minutes but then go back into Tennessee and through Chattanooga, and THEN into Georgia, we were in Georgia for real. Again, no picture of the sign. I was still driving so don't look at me. We drove through Northern Georgia, Linda told us about another short slow down (about 20 minutes), and then the torrential downpour started. It went from sprinkling to buckets in about 2 seconds. It was scary. I'm from Wisconsin. I've driven in a foot of snow, but this was way worse. Even with the wipers on high, I couldn't really see anything. Thankfully, most everyone slowed down and put on their hazards lights, so I did the same. The rain lasted probably 10 minutes, but it was the longest 10 minutes of the whole trip. It kept raining for a bit after that, but nothing like the downpour. Just regular rain.

Thankful to be safe, we soldiered on. We were getting close to Atlanta. It was dark by this time, and Jason tried to get a good picture, but it was hard. Here's one of a peach because everything is peach this and peach that in Atlanta.

We did get a few pics of Atlanta during the day on the way home so I'll share those just so you can all see what Atlanta looks like.

You can see our Minnie antennae topper in this one.

We figured we'd try to make it to Macon since that's how far we made it last year. Usually we stop around midnight, but because we'd left earlier and made good time, it was only around 9. Though the time had changed to Eastern zone, so it was now 10, but if you look at how long we'd been driving, we did well.

We started looking for a hotel and found a Super 8 in Macon with a good price and great reviews. We stopped and got a room and lo and behold, it was the SAME Super 8 we stayed at last year! We had had a good experience and were glad we found it again. I think it will be our go-to from now on. The rooms were clean, the mattresses were brand new and the staff was very nice. Here's a blurry pic of our room.

The girls got showered and brushed their teeth and went to bed with visions of Disney dancing in their heads.

We hit the sack ready to keep moving in the morning. I took this picture before bed and went to sleep. It had been a long, but very productive day. We only had about 5 1/2 hours to go tomorrow!

A giant windmill farm that seems to go on forever. I know some people don't like it, but I think it looks so cool.

Here's a scenic shot from the drive. Indian is real exciting to drive through, let me tell you.

We live in Westfield, Indiana - about 1/2 hour north of Indianapolis. We'll be seeing those windmills later today since we are driving up to northwest Indiana to visit Steve's family. I think they look cool too!

Ha. Yep, Indiana is exciting to drive through. Zzzzzzzz.........

I love long drives (prefer them to shorter, in-town drives), but we haven't made the auto trek to Disney yet. Sounds like your trip is relatively uneventful so far, which is good!

Agree 100% about Indiana! We drove to Chicago twice, and Indiana was, by far, the most boring part of the trip. Interestingly enough, the minute we crossed into Indiana, the radio started playing John Cougar Mellencamp's "Pink Houses". To this day, I swear there is a station right on the border that broadcasts his music 24/7.

Can't wait until you reach the Mouse!

The Skyway Toll Bridge! I waved to Chicago Mo as we went by. I know she lives around there somewhere.

That's ME!!!!
that's my exit HOME! well 103rd exit is. BUT as your getting closer to the Indiana toll bridge you see the forest? Yeah i live west of it!!

vicious beast of traffic that is Chicago.

no joke,

A giant windmill farm that seems to go on forever.

They are amazing and creepy as well! LOL

We pulled out of the driveway at 5:22 which was pretty good in my book!

Great start!!! I am loving this report! especially when i will be taking that SAME ride in just 2 months!!! :jumping3:

Following along! I'm pretty sure I read your last report and it was fabulous - can't wait to follow along again!

We just recently moved to Macon - it's a great drive to Disney! 6 hours or so with stops can't be beat. I know it always feels nice to have the short end ahead of you on a long drive, especially one as long as yours!

I finally had the time to make it over to read. I love the intro pictures as they show your true personalities!

You guys were making some good time during the drive! It sounds like for a while there you took the same route that we take when we go to Knoxville and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We go through Chattanooga and then are in Georgia for like 15-20 minutes. Don't you just hate driving in the rain!?! I don't mind a little rain but when it's a lotta rain and the traffic normally goes at 65 or 70 miles and hour, I have visiions of car wrecks in my head.

Looking forward to reading more!

Oh and I totally forgot to comment on the video. The girls were so cute when they figured out what their surprise was.

We live in Westfield, Indiana - about 1/2 hour north of Indianapolis. We'll be seeing those windmills later today since we are driving up to northwest Indiana to visit Steve's family. I think they look cool too!

Awesome! We must have driven right by your house!

Ha. Yep, Indiana is exciting to drive through. Zzzzzzzz.........

Hah! That's exactly right.

I love long drives (prefer them to shorter, in-town drives), but we haven't made the auto trek to Disney yet. Sounds like your trip is relatively uneventful so far, which is good!

I love a good road trip too. And we save so much money by driving, so we'll keep doing it. Also, I hate flying. :crazy2: Yep, except for the rain, it was uneventful.

:rotfl2:That seems about right, I guess. Next time I'll have to be sure we have the radio on when we drive through there. Here's my observation about Indiana too. When did it become a southern state? I swear, as soon as we crossed the border from Illinois to Indiana, everyone started with the southern drawl. Last I checked, it was midwestern!

Can't wait until you reach the Mouse!

Me either!

That's ME!!!!
that's my exit HOME! well 103rd exit is. BUT as your getting closer to the Indiana toll bridge you see the forest? Yeah i live west of it!!

I yelled "Hi Mo" as we drove past. :cheer2:

no joke,

None. I've driven through at 1am before and gotten stuck. I think we just got lucky this time!

They are amazing and creepy as well! LOL

Yes, I can see that

this is great time!

We were pretty proud of ourselves!

want some?

Oh, I have plenty at home!

HORRIBLE!

So boring. We didn't get through Georgia yet, though.

I would have too!

I am a 40 year old woman in a 12 year old's body.

This is amazing. what type of GPS do you have?

We just used Google Maps on Jason's phone. It was so great! Linda is our new hero.

I want to stop there one day.

Me too! Seems like a cool city.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA H AHA :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Again, 12 year old boy!

I cannot believe you didn't stop!!!

Well we were making good time and had a Mouse to get to. It really looked cool, though.

NO PICTURES?!?! WTH!

I was driving.

They scare the bejesus out of me.

So scary. I can't wait to get to the bottom of the hill.

Oh no. that's scary too! Geez am i going to be able to sleep tonight?!?!

Sorry. It was scary, but we were careful.

Yet they don't actually HAVE peaches there...

No, not directly in Atlanta. But we had some amazing peaches fresh from GEorgia over the summer!

Your going to have to give me the address..

I'll PM it to you!

best quote ever.

Sometimes I come up with a good one!
Great start!!! I am loving this report! especially when i will be taking that SAME ride in just 2 months!!! :jumping3:

And I'll have to re-live the drive again?:scratchin

Following along! I'm pretty sure I read your last report and it was fabulous - can't wait to follow along again!

:welcome: Thanks for joining! Glad you enjoyed my last report. So happy to have you along for the ride on this one!

We just recently moved to Macon - it's a great drive to Disney! 6 hours or so with stops can't be beat. I know it always feels nice to have the short end ahead of you on a long drive, especially one as long as yours!

That's awesome that you live there! We'd be at Disney much more often if we lived that close. And yes, we drive hard the first day so we have much less the second and can get to the magic sooner!

I finally had the time to make it over to read. I love the intro pictures as they show your true personalities!

Thanks! I tried to convey that in the pics! And so glad you made it over here! :)

We made great time! We really lucked out this year. Even with the few minor delays, we did really great. I bet we were on the same route you take. I-24?

I hate driving in the rain, and this rain was awful. So scary. I was so glad I was driving or I would have been super anxious. Thankfully, none of the other cars seemed to be driving like jerks and everyone slowed down and drove more cautiously. I get those same visions, though.

Looking forward to reading more!

Hopefully tonight or tomorrow night!

Oh and I totally forgot to comment on the video. The girls were so cute when they figured out what their surprise was.

Weren't they? They were genuinely surprised and so grateful we got to go again.
