when to buy AP?

My DS just turned 1, so I know I want to go to WDW at least once in the next 2 yrs.I would like to get the AP and go twice, 11mn apart. I've read that prices usually go up Jan.1. I may not be going till 2002. Can I buy the AP now, before prices go up and not "activate " it till we go next year? I read at wdwig starting Oct 2000 the AP is active from the day you buy it, but in the next paragraph it says the ones from DS are vouchers. Has anyone seen this? Does anyone know the correct, current info? What should I do, buy now and avoid a price increase, or wait till we are in WDW to get the most from our 12 mns ? Thanks for your input! :)

You can purchase your AP from the Disney Store now and you will receive a voucher. You then take that voucher to Guest Services at one of the parks or Downtown Disney and exchange it for your activated Annual Pass when you arrive at WDW next year. The difficult part comes when you want to renew your Annual Pass. If you renew the pass within 30 days of expiration, you receive a discount on the pass. The problem is that the renewed AP will be activated on the date your old AP expired and your time is running on the renewed AP even if you haven't been to the park!! That is something to consider when your AP comes up for renewal.

Hope this helps!

From deb's site
On October 2, 2000 Disney changed their policy on Annual Passports. Any AP puchased at WDW, The Disney Store at Orlando International Airport, or from the Ocala Information Center now receives an activated pass, not a voucher. This pass will expire one year from the date of purchase, not the previous one year from first use. The date of expiration is clearly printed with the words "Expires on" on the AP itself.
If you purchased the AP from any other source it doesn't have the word "Expire" (or any form of the word) on it....then it is not an admission media with the clock ticking. It is a voucher which must be exchanged at WDW Guest Relations for the activated pass. Your one year will start upon exchanging the voucher.

:o Thanks for the info! I read that at Deb's site, but I thought it said "Disney Store OR Orlando Airport", now I see the word is "AT"! :o

How about a DC membership? Is it worth the price? Are there any discounts on the membership (senior, AAA)? :)
