Wheelchair shopping

My daughter is finally on the growth chart, which is exciting, but also means it is getting really hard to push her. We've been talking to our mobility specialist and he is suggesting either the Passport Jazzy or the Quantum Kozmo portable. Looking for anyone with experience with either. We usually do our wheelchair "shopping" at Disney.

Looks like you are looking at power wheelchairs?

I don’t know a lot about either of those chairs, but the Jazzy one looks like a portable chair, meant to be folded and placed in a vehicle folded for transport. From what I can see on the website, the spec sheet and the owner’s manual, it doesn’t look like it has any tiedown loops for using transportation restraints ( like on Magical Express or regular WDW buses). Not a problem if you intend to fold it for transport, but could be an issue if you are planning something else.
I also noticed the battery charging information says to charge it every night for 8-14 hours and to charge it for 4 hours past the point where it registers as fully charged.

The Kozmo also appears to not have tiedown loops for securing it in a vehicle. From the literature and owner’s manual, it looks like it comes apart for transport like the portable ECVs.
The battery information is the same as the other wheelchair, with a note that it should be charged for 48 continuous hours once a month for better battery life.

If that’s what meets your daughter’s needs (especially if you don’t have a wheelchair van to transport it in), that’s great. But, it’s good to consider before settling on one.

We are definitely looking for portable and power. Her problems are stamina and pain. She doesn't necessarily use a wheelchair every day, but she needs it if we are going any distance. (So, she doesn't use it to run into CVS, but does for Walmart or a mall. Definitely does for Disney).

Sounds like your big choice is whether it will work better for you to fold the chair or take it apart.

Jazzy and Quantum are both divisions of the same company - Quantum is Pride Mobility’s more ‘rehab’ division and Jazzy is more of a ‘consumer’ cdivision.

I can think of 2 attractions at WDW offhand that require tiedown securement for guests riding in their own wheelchair in the accessible ride car - Toy Story Mania and the Safari at AK. Since she’s using the wheelchair for stamina, she could transfer to a ride car.
