What age to leave kids independent?

Thinking of RC next year, we have done DCL with the kids and sailed RC without the kids. We loved the freedom of being able to do adult activities while the kids are being supervised in the kids club. Our only apprehension sailing with kids on RC is not as much for the kids to do and more importantly being able to have time away from the kids. How late to the kids clubs stay open till? I don't think it's as late as DCL. And my main question is what are people's thought about what age is appropriate to leave kids alone in the stateroom? I'm thinking if we put them to bed and they went out for a drink or to the casino. My kids would be ages 13 and 8 when we are thinking of traveling.

There's a ton for kids to do on Royal.

Do you leave the kids alone at home now? Is the 13 year old babysitting? If so, does the 13 year old sleep while babysitting? Does the 8 year old listen to the 13 year old?

She is 12 now, home alone sometimes for short periods. Not baby sitting or with her brother. I don't think I would, I'd be too nervous I think. What time are the kids clubs open till?

I would probably ask over on cruisecritic; there's no date on that PDF, and I trust almost nothing that comes from Royal's site, LOL. They did about as good a job changing over their website as Disney has done. Fairly certain they hire the same trained monkeys for their website.
