WDW Moderate Hotels (need)

A good friend of ours will be celebrating her 70th birthday this year. She would like to take her family to WDW from 12/1-12/8. Including her, there would be 5 adults (3 rooms needed), 2 children (<12 yrs) and one infant. She tried to use (rent) points to DVC/OKW, but it was not available. Does anyone know of any deals for a place like Dixie Landings or is there a special at the Swan/Dolphin around the same price range? Thanks!
note: maybe someone from Dreams Unlimited would see this post and offer some suggestions (can't get into their website this morning).

Hi, Walter -

The only "special" I know of for that time of year is the Disney Club discount. Those are subject to availability and may not be available when you call. Traditonally, Ap discounts are few to non-existent during this period. The good news is: It's a wonderful time of the year to visit - relatively uncrowded, and lots of Christmas decorations, special events and shows to keep you entertained.

That said, I think it might be a little too early for any significant discounts for December. If the hotels don't fill (and apparently the economy has had an effect on this summer & fall's bookings ), Disney will offer additional discounts as the time approaches.

Suggest that you consider the Holiday Packages - they should be coming out soon. These usually include a discounted room, dinner at a selected variety of Disney restaurants and either tickets to MVMCP or reserved seating at EPCOT's CP. These packages usually are NOT a good deal if they include the UPH (length of stay) passes. They can be a very good deal if they allow you to purchase another kind of admission ticket. (In 1998, the package was less expensive for the two of us than the cost of the MKC discounted room alone. We stayed at PO, now PO-FQ, and we did not have to buy the UPH passes). You'll have to do the math. In the past, the Holiday packages have been available without UPH passes, but Disney has been starting out offering only the packages WITH UPH passes and then later, if needed, offering the packages without the passes included.

Sorry this is getting long. Keep checking the board. Someone will post when new discounts are available. Good Luck!
