Viva Italia 9/25/08

Just booked Viva Italia. From reading the posts it will be a great trip. Just a few questions if anyone has gone or is going:
Are money belts advised?
Should the wife carry a pocketbok or not?
What type of clothes would be recommende? Jeans?casual? etc.
Sneakers, sandals or regular shoes?
Are backbacks allowed?
Leaving from Boston on 9/24/08, Lufthansa at 6:40.
Any other recommendations or tips would be appreciated.

We haven't gone yet but....we're under a month on the countdown!

These are the tidbits from what I've been able to glean from those that experienced Viva Italia already:

Moneybelts are a personal comfort level recommendation
If you (or wife) carries a pocketbook it should be the kind that goes over the head and the strap crosses the body, could be iffy to carry the kind that slings on the arm.
Definitely casual clothes with at least one outfit that covers the knees for church touring.
Any shoe that is comfortable.
Backpacks are allowed but gypsies in crowded areas may slash them.

Other things:
Tip in euros preferred by guides
Pack light
I'm sure others will add more recommendations!
and above all relax and have fun .
