Two and Two kids , please..Day 3 MGM/Disney
............
Well the day we thought wouldn't happen arrives , and guess what ? the sun is
shining!!! We were all up and about by 7 a.m. and headed for our first real
American breakfast, and hit Shoneys on the 192. We were astounded by the
selection of food on offer, but fair to say we did it justice! Callum concentrated
on bacon, scrambled eggs and pancakes, Emilia isn't big on breakfast but
managed 3 different cereals!, Juliet did her fresh fruit routine (boring )...I won't
go into the full account of my breakfast but I think the waitress was
impressed!!! We got into the car(only just in my case )and headed for the
Promised Land...we still couldn't believe Emilia's conversion but we sure as heck
weren't going to question her and risk a change!! No fears though , after getting
Minnie Emilia never again voiced opinions against anything to do with
Disney..one day I'll pluck up the courage to ask her what happened!
We parked up in Pluto ...got our train and were at the gates by 9.10 a.m. Up
Hollywood Bvde. we went and swung right heading for Tower of Terror, I think I
was the most excited of the 4 of us !!! We got a fast-pass for 9.35 but since
there was only a 5 minute wait (if that ) we joined the queue...well , if 12-15
people constitutes a queue!!! The pre-show was suitably impressive for the kids
, then a quick walk and into our lift. This was it ,then , our first ride in Disney!!
BRILLIANT sums it up, we whizzed back to the queue to do our fastpass. At this
point I spoke to an American guy who filled me in on what was to prove an
interesting fact about the fastpass machines........! Anyway , on we went again
and managed to get the front row of the lift , even better!
Next up was Rock'n'Roller Coaster...again we hit the fastpass machine then
joined the queue..this was about 5 minutes which was as long as we had to wait
all day for a ride , one of the benefits of going in November.
What a buzz the RnR Coaster was!!! The noise , speed and unexpected turns
made it a great experience , the only disappointing part of the first ride was that
we were whizzed straight into Aerosmith's studio without really taking anything
in ....we dragged our feet second time around...I gather that this ride is the
biggest queue most days and I can see why!!!
Time for a drink , the weather was very pleasant by now and it was such a relief
to have sunshine after Sunday's rain. Next up was the Great Movie Ride, I
thought it was pleasant rather than brilliant right up to the scene from Wizard of
Oz...that was wonderful, whoever designed Judy Garland captured her perfectly
(tears in the eye time!)..and I saw the ruby slippers! We zipped over to The
Muppets 3-D show and arrived bang on time for a show ...it was only 2/3 full
and we managed to sit in the centre! This was fantastic !!!custard pies cannon
balls , the lot I've never laughed so loud for so long a definite 10/10. After the
show we decided to go for Star Wars and followed our new family tradition of
getting fastpasses then joining the queue. We saw the huge machine outside
hissing out its mist clouds then inside we went ,very impressive!! I was
expecting a fantastic ride after all the pre-amble ....I was to be sorely
disappointed. By any standard this ride is past its sell by date....this was to be
the biggest disappointment in any park ( with the exception of discovering Jaws
was closed for rehab!!!!! )
No wonder we got on so quickly.... By now it was lunch-time , we didn't have PS
so we wandered around .The Pizza Planet was jammed, and I'd heard enough
about Prime Time cafe and the deadly staff to give it a miss. We settled for the
Sci-Fi Theatre and boldly asked for a table for 4. No problems , we waited for
about 15 minutes and the kids were entertained by a CM who asked them
Disney Trivia questions, both kids got Disney character bookmarks so they were
well pleased. In we went and were shown to our car, the kids were thrilled (so
was dad!)they couldn't believe they were in a cinema . The kids had pasta and
Dirty Worms ( Oreo biscuits , chocolate ice-cream and jelly worms ...) Juliet had
Chicken breast in a salsa sauce ,Yummy..I had burger. We shared a chocaolate
cake to die for , and once the kids realised their re-fills were free they managed
to increase their body size by 50%. The male staff made for great entertainment
screaming at appropriate parts of the films..a great time was had by all. the bill
was just over $62 but considering the surroundings , the entertainment and the
fact my children had converted themselves into walking CO2 containers with the
quantity of coke they'd consumed it was good value indeed. We decided a sit
down was appropriate and headed for Indiana Jones, greta entertainment!!We
did the Muppets again , well it is excellent! , and then picked our spot for the 3
p.m. parade. and got good spots at the top of Hollywood Bvde.
the parade was as wonderful as we expected and so was Princess Jasmine !!
We went to do the Backstage Tour and stopped to take photos under Gene
Kelly's umbrella..i know it's not really, but I can dream!!
We put the kids on the left side of the car...and did they jump whenthe
earthquake hit and a huge tanker came at them !! It's nice to be cruel in the
right context!!!
When we left through the shop area we noticed a shed and a CM ....being
curious we had a look , and there was Goofy ! the CM said he wouldn't be really
ready for 10 minutes but after I said we were about to leave (we weren't!) she
allowed us to take pics. of both kids with Santa Goofy. Heading back down New
York Street we saw loads of Disney characters and the kids posed with Donald's
3 nephews , Tigger , Pooh and Eeyore. We were so lucky because there were
only a few people about and we got a dozen photos in 5 minutes!
The next 20 minutes were spent jabbering about who was the cutest character
and how gorgeous they were , eventually Callum & Emilia told us to stop going
on about it!!
Back toward the Tower of Terror since it was getting darker..even better at
Twilight and no need to use fastpass because it was a walk-on...3 times!!
We did RnR Coaster twice more , then went to watch Beauty & the Beast. What a
marvellous show! Mind you Juliet decided Gaston was a bit hunkier than the
Prince!
We decided we should get round to secure our seats for Fantasmic , and since it
was 5.30 p.m. we expected poor seats ,if any . To our surprise we got seated
fairly easily and the show certainly wasn't packed to the rafters. this show was
worth the admission price in itself!! As was to become apparent during this
holiday Disney really do capture magic ... the dragon was awesome.
Suitably exhausted we joined the throngs and got back to our car. We sat in the
car and re-lived the day's events like 4 kids , in retrospect we missed a few
things but the day was so wonderful it didn't feel like we missed a thing, and we
certainly enjoyed every second. It was agreed to head back home ..Emilia
wanted to go for swimming practice !...since Tuesday was to be our visit to
Discovery Cove.
A take-away was the order of the day - 3 x KFC and 1xChinese for guess who !
We were exhausted and hit bed by 10 p.m. Happy little soldiers!!!!
Next up ......Discovery Cove or how to cuddle a stingray!
