We want to visit Disney around my daughter’s third birthday. What are the rules around her ticket? If she turns three during the trip do we still need to buy her a ticket, or does she not need one because she started the trip at two?

To be clear, if your child is 2 at the start of the trip you are not penalized for them having a birthday during the trip. However if your child were to be 3 before the trip, then you would need to pay. Disney does not give parents any leeway on that.

My son turned 3 during his birthday trip, he did not need a ticket and was not charged at the character buffets for the entire trip. We went to Chef Mickey's for dinner on his birthday and I ordered a cake to be delivered there, was a great time!

Agree regarding tix, none needed if you check in when he is still 2. Policy is supposed to be that they are also free at buffets, but we were charged for my son's meal at his 3rd birthday dinner at Garden Grill, and almost had to pay again the next day at Crystal Palace.

They’re free at buffets if the child is 2 at the time of check in. If you’re charged for a child’s meal and shouldn’t be, escalate the issue.

As everyone mentioned, as long as your child is not 3 at the start of the trip you are good. We celebrated our twins 3 year old birthday there last Dec. For buffets you can server them a plate at no charge. At sit down or quick they will either need to eat some of your food or you can order them something any pay out of pocket.

You can ask the front desk of the hotel you are staying at if you are staying on Disney property and they will give you a birthday button pin free of charge. We celebrated their birthday at BOG and had a cake delivered to the restaurant so you do not have to transport it. You can also order some things to be delivered to the room also.

Just back from our trip- we didn't have one instance where we had to correct a tab in a restaurant- she was always marked as an 'infant' (under 3) for buffets, even on her birthday. We were never questioned on her age when entering the park. We also had a cake delivered to the restaurant on her birthday. It was delicious and we had some leftovers for the last few days of our trip. :)
