Trip to Vero Logistics

We are planning our first trip to Disney's Vero Beach for late May and would love some planning advice.

We are flying into MCO, getting a rental car and spending 4 days at Vero before heading back to WDW for 10 days.

Is there a restaurant you would recommend we eat late lunch/early dinner at on our drive from MCO to Vero (Bonus points for restaurants on the ocean)?

We do not plan on keeping the rental car for the WDW portion of our trip. We found a great rate from Enterprise at MCO for our dates in late May and will pick up the rental after our flight, drive to Vero, then on Vero check out day we would drive back to MCO to drop rental off. Is this silly? Anything else you would recommend? We looked at renting from Disney Car Care but prices were triple. If we stick with our original plan of dropping the rental car off at MCO can we take the DME to AKV even through we flew in 4 days earlier?

When you come out of MCO, go east on 528, till you get to PC, then on your left will be quite a few restaurants that over look the port and the ships that are in port that day. Another option is to stay on 528, at the Atlantic Ocean you will turn right, head over to the Cocoa Beach pier @5 miles for lunch.
Another option for lunch, is Capt Hiram's in Sebastian @10 miles from the VB resort.

Couldn't you drop the car off at the Enterprise location on Hotel Plaza Blvd? Then you'd be on property. Or, have you tried checking the rates for Alamo/National - picking up at MCO, but dropping off at either Car Care Center OR The Dolphin hotel?
As far as DME, others here have done it so it should be fine.

We enjoy Capt Hiram’s. Good food and you get to see the water!

I personally love Florida Seafood in Cocoa Beach. Good food, atmosphere, and prices. Not over the ocean, though. At Port Canaveral there are a few fun bars that overlook the cruise ships and a bit of the ocean. If you do an early dinner on the right day, you may be able to see a ship leave port. My favorite one there is Rusty's, but it's a little more casual of a place.

As for the DME piece, you could make up fake flight that lands around the time that you plan on showing up at the airport. I would however reccomend dropping your stuff off at the hotel first and then having one person drop off the car and either MDE or Uber it back.

Not sure what time you will be arriving at Vero, but you can eat at the resort at the Green Cabin room, which is on the second floor of the inn and overlooks the ocean. There are about 5 or6 high top tables outside with a beautiful view. They have a small menu, a burger, flatbreads, wings, a salad and maybe two appetizers and a few desserts. They may have changed their menu since they changed the downstairs restaurants. Captain Hiram's and Squid Lips are on the water, but every time we eat there we have had a problem and have not thought the food was that good. In Vero Beach(downtown) Waldo's is right on the water. Good menu and food is usually good. Hope you have a great trip. We are going to be there in Feb. for 4 nights and we can't wait.

Thank you! I was able to get a decent car rental rate through WorkPerks. We will pick up the car from MCO after our flight, drive to Vero and stay four days, then drop car off at Disney Car Care and take shuttle to AKV. It was $60 more than taking car back to MCO and using DME- but worth the extra cost I think!

Love Squid Lips. Two trips to VB went there both times.

It’s very quiet around the resort. It’s actually located in Sebastian.
So, it’s a drive to any restaurant outside the resort. We haven’t not been there since they renovated the restaurant and pool area CS. But we love the Green Cabin Room at the resort. We sit out on the open porch it’s on the second floor and overlooks the ocean. The menu was a little limited, but everything is very tasty.

We were to the casual restaurant prior to the beginning the reservations and enjoyed the food. On our last trip they were in the middle of the renovations, so dinner was served in what was like a banquet room. We ate there twice and enjoy the food both times.

My boys have a tendency not to go want to go anywhere, so we pretty much eat at the resort when we’re there. We’ve been there two times, both for four nights. It’s a very pretty resort. Enjoy!
