Hi there--planning another trip and just got a new transportable scooter (Pride Gogo Sport). Thinking of coming in one night before my Disney reservation and staying at a Disney Springs resort for that one night before checking into POFQ. Instead of renting I am considering bringing my own scooter, but am looking at transportation options from MCO to Disney Springs hotel (I don't believe the hotels I'm looking at for that one night offer shuttles from airport). Has anyone with a transportable scooter had experience in using Uber/Lyft? The scooter breaks down and the heaviest piece is less than 40 pounds. I put it in and out of my car myself. But am wondering if an Uber/Lyft driver would balk at that. Second question--if I book a Mears shuttle, do I need to specifically request an accessible shuttle since the scooter breaks down? Just looking for real-life experiences. Thanks. [P.S.--I would probably sleep in after the long travel day from California, check out and then go over the Disney Springs and catch the boat to POFQ to check-in]

I've used Uber locally with my rigid (non-folding) manual wheelchair a number of times now. What I typically do for my own convenience when I have my chair with me is get UberXL (the SUV option), so there is room for the chair without breaking it down. If you handle it yourself, most drivers will just treat it like luggage. A lot of drivers I have found offer to help, but I would not count on that. As long as you can manage the scooter yourself, and you've practiced and gotten good at breaking it down, I wouldn't expect much trouble.

Rideshare companies have 3 main ways of adding WAVs to the fleet. They can add drivers who have privately owned accessible vans. They can arrange for WAVs for drivers to use by buying them or providing drivers with a subsidy to buy them. They can partner with a company that already provides WAV transportation like medical transport services.

The first option doesn’t work that well for obvious reasons, so in most areas they have the WAV option they are using a combination of the other two models. Given the market, I’d be surprised if they aren’t working on setting this up in Orlando.
