They are usually good about thinking out the routing, not sure why that one happened.

Exactly, there is a difference between making noise unintentionally and being thoughtless.

A few years ago, I was on the elevator with a family of 4 boys. We get off the same floor, we walk in the same direction, Small talk going on.... going down same hallways....kids run ahead a bit. Stopped at the door next to our's. I said "oh we're neighbors". The mom says "let me apologize in advance".

Pardon the adult content...but headboards banging against the wall, which include some prayer time to the almighty, can be included here. Quality alone time is one thing, but I'd rather my kids not know about it.

Most guests seem to be oblivious and inconsiderate of other people around them, as if the whole family partially phased into a different dimension where they can only see themselves and potentially pass through solid objects. The only way to snap them back into our dimension is to acknowledge them or say hi or excuse me. It's an interesting phenomena.

I have no problem with people using ECVs. But I do have a problem with people parking ECVs in the hallway blocking fire exits.

I might be totally off, but I think a big part of the preventable noise is that a lot of guests don't live in shared accommodations. I think the average Disney traveller probably lives in a single-family house and outside of vacation time rarely has to think about shared space or manage noise levels to keep from bothering neighbours (or if they do, it's concerns like blaring radios and raging house parties, rather than the noise of running around a hallway).

I live in a condo and I don't face these problems at home. Sure, sometimes we can hear one another living our lives, but it feels like the generally intrusive problems are kept to a minimum (our condo also has much better soundproofing than Disney, which makes a huge difference), because we all we have to think about noise levels and shared space on a daily basis. Not so at Disney, where people are excited, focused on their own vacations, and possibly using shared space for the only time in a year.

A number of years ago we were staying in a one bedroom ‘lock off’ at OKW. A family moved into the adjoining studio one afternoon and were rather loudly exploring their room. All of a sudden we noticed that there was banging and rattling of the connecting door on our side. Then there was banging on our window as the kids were hanging off their balcony and trying to see into our living room window. And they kept trying the connecting door. With very loud (kids I presume) talking about how they wanted to see waht was through the door. No adult made any move to stop them or admonish them.
I called the front desk and they sent someone to tell them that they were disturbing the guests next door.

:rotfl:I had to deal with that one too, for over an hour, late one night at CR. Fortunately it was just my sister and me in the room, no kids.

OMG!!! We went on our "special 50th anniversary trip" and a couple we often travelled with insisted on coming with us. SHE spent the ENTIRE time talking and texting on her phone: 10 days!!! On more than one occasion telling the waiter to come back to take our order because she had not looked at the menu yet - even though the rest of us were ready! I could go on, but it just makes me angrier. I should have just grabbed the phone and tossed it into the lake. Needless to say, that was our last shared vacation.

I am one of the elderly, and I truly don't mind if a child sits - they get tired too and sometimes the parents have other kids, but I do object to when the parents spread out the backpacks on the seats when there are no other seats available. I know you carried them around all day, but put them at your feet, please.

I would have told her that we are all ready to order and she can either decide what she wants by the time everyone is done ordering or she can leave and eat elsewhere.

I agree, honestly I don't get people lugging around backbacks and bags all day. Too much work to save $2 or $3. Of course that is unless there are babies involved and you need diaper bags and such, but that is different.

You are a better person than I. Wish I could be more like you and had done that. I'm more of an avoid confrontation and seethe person.

Guys... Etiquette at travel cheer competitions has all of this beat. Being trapped in a hotel with thousands of cheerleaders and their parents in town for high stakes competition is... interesting. Drunk parents passed out, kids, and worse teens, running wild until all hours of the nights. One night the room next door sounded like WWE event. Moms were passed out drunk upstairs and teen girls had mattresses from the beds on the floor tumbling, and they were running between floors and slamming the fire doors. That is just night 1, when everyone is hopped up on adrenaline. Night two usually brings fights about who caused what point deduction fueled by alcohol and sleep deprivation, and angry cranky parents yelling at kids.

We were on a bus going back to CSR with a group pf cheers. They were cheering and chanting, and it got pretty loud/ It was late, kids were tired, and babies sleeping. I spoke to a chaperone, and boom! A few did not listen so as we exited the bus he had the entire group pulled aside, and their planned visit to the food court was canceled. Room and lights out.

Have you ever met that entitled person who cannot understand why you are questioning her behavior? Including her was a mistake, however she was my first husbands sister, and after he died, I tried to keep her in the family loop. This cell phone nonsense was just the last straw in a long line of problems that began when we were planning our DGD's first trip to Disney. DH and I felt the trip should e all about what DD, DSIL and DGD wanted, and the rest of us were just along as a courtesy, but no. SIS IL was offended they even might consider a little alone time as a family! She wanted to come on the next vacation, however I had a full scale mutiny on my hands. Nope.

I use the Relax Melodies app on my phone to pick out a white noise sound to help drown out the outside noises. Works great!
