The Official Dec Trip Report Thread

Amber welcome. We love the sites in the full hook up clover leaf but having dogs we prefer the 1600 or 1800 just our preference. Take time to explore the Fort and see the decorations in all the loops. Weather can be very much like Dec in Jan. We prepare for Cold to Moderate but plan for colder nights. We don't go out without a sweatshirt and a light jacket in the evenings My back pack is large enough to handle it

I think all the full hook up loops are nice! Can't go wrong. I am hoping for 1800 or 1900. We too were down in Jan 16 and this past Jan 17. Weather is tricky for sure. I'm hoping for warmer this December. Mother Nature typically is kinder in Dec verses Jan, but I recall last winter down there being reversed.

Well 3 weeks from now we will be on our way. Reservations have been made at CG's along the way as have some seminars including Drivers confidence course at Lazy Days Resort for BOTH of us . Gift Cards for Disney and Cracker Barrel have been Purchased Coach is getting the few problems taken care of Girls have appointments for pedicures and vaccines . Mom and dad still working the itinerary but have resigned ourselves to this trip will be less park time and more kids time Guess we'll just have to devote more to Fort activities

Love stopping at the Cracker Barrel on the drive! In fact, I stopped in there just a couple days ago to get my mother-in-law a gift card for xmas and inquired about a Cracker Barrel map. I am so sad to say that they no longer offer them. What?! This is blasphemy! Can't believe it. How could they?

Listen Cracker, if you wanna do away with your kick butt road maps, you best better have one off every single exit off the interstate from here to there! I know you almost do, but still...

ILDMM I feel your pain. The loss of those maps was not something I was aware of. Happily as we run I 95 corridor for our trek we have found ones that work well for us. I love to make them a mid morning stop for a good breakfast after an early start for the day. Try their website using state and city functions then compare to Google maps SATELLITE view for ease and access to and from travel route ( We didn't do that once and stopped at one where It took me 30 min to go 1/2 mile from parking lot to highway never stopping there again Parking lot led to road that with timing of the lights had me stuck unable to pull onto it till one woman waved me on)

Cracker Barrel is no longer our 'go to' stop after various changes (not for the better) on some of our favorite meals - except dh still loves 'Uncle Hershel's' b'fast any time of day! :) The only one I like are the blackberry pancakes.

But, as for their maps, haven't used them or needed them for years. If you have 'maps' on your phone you can always find the nearest one to you. Also, there are always billboards advertising way ahead to know where they are. No lack of billboards here in the south!! o_O

Also, just be aware, their RV sites are barely sufficient for all but the smallest RV length combos - don't know what yours is. For some strange reason also, people in personal vehicles 'love' to park in those making them unavailable for RV's. Best to stop at them at 'off' times to have better chance of a space. Have a great trip!!

You know North, we stopped at two Crackers on the way down last January, and they were both fair at best. I thought it was a fluke and just a couple bad stops. I'm hoping we have a better visit this trip.

As for the road map, I just like using them cause they feel "road trippy". Of course we can use our phones, but it's fun for the kids too when they are still working on map skills.

They still teach map skills? o_O Good for you. Sadly, it seems to be a lost art.

Jim off course they teach map skills. How else would UBER drivers know the long route to take Hipsters on there way to protest anything that remotely challenges their ideas of the truth or how things should be

We homeschool and we life skill school too. I think both are equally important. My kids can make a list, shop according to the list, cook, sew, clean, drive a skid steer, grow a garden, and many other works in progress. Did you know they offer courses in college now that teach these young adults how to cook/do laundry/manage a check book? Snowflakes. We are in trouble folks!

We keep things real around here. You never know when the world is going to go dark (i.e. no internet) map skills may very well save ones life.

We have tried to do the same with Ian. He has a huge fear of failure, but the look when he does something he didn't think he could is priceless. My brother and I were map freaks when we were little. Our friends had posters of the latest pop star in their rooms. My brother and I had the walls covered with maps.

That's just sad. Ian had those classes in high school. Not cooking, but home finance, different types of loans, or bank accounts. We made sure he knew how to do laundry and cook (once he got over being afraid the stove was going to blow up- Way too many Youtube videos).

A couple of years ago, I was tempted to ask if I could send him up to work the farm for a season. Problem is, that he works hard and tries for everyone else, just not at home.

Now back to the topic. 4 MORE DAYS!

Just looked over the newly posted Activities and Movie schedule for Dec. WookieBear is not a HAPPY CAMPER she fully intended to force and escort me to do the Ride Of Shame for getting caught with a decorated Golf Cart but that is the night we have ressies for Candle Light Processional and Mommy says we are NOT passing on that. NYE has no Sing Along or Campfire Program only the Dance Party at the Beach so we may need to rework that night a bit as well

It's time to sticky this one....

We leave 2 weeks from today. DW is a 2nd grade teacher and is done with school at noon on the 15th, so hope to be on the road by 2:30 and will stay at the MM346-Ocala rest area until time to had to The Fort for check-in. Reservations are for a premium site and have requested loop 400 or 700. We rented from Greenburg in June and stayed in 400 and loved the location. We now have our own new Keystone Passport. We check-in on the 16th and will head back home on the 21st. Will add more details later as we are headed to North Alabama tonight then to Christmas on the River in Demopolis, AL on Saturday. I will only have next weekend in the cold to get the camper ready.

Hey There! My kids and I will be staying in a cabin from the 23rd to the 30th. This is our first trip to Disney and we couldn't be more excited to be doing this inaugural trip at CHRISTMAS! There are 4 of us and the kids are grown now so we will be 4 adults behaving like children. I anticipate many tears of joy and overwhelming emotional responses to just about everything we see... 3 MORE WEEKS!!!

Hey there, Dalir. We will be over in the full hook up loops till the 18th. We check in tomorrow!!!

I feel for you getting the camper ready in the cold temps. We usually are packing and stacking in the teens or worse. This trip we were blessed with 40 - 50 degrees.

I love your enthusiasm Pauline! You go right ahead and behave like a kid. How can one not at Disney? Tears will flow, oh yes! That's when you know it's a magical trip!

Well 2 weeks from now we'll be on the road and i am hoping to be at Carolina Crossroads by now. We checked weathe outlook for here in DELAWARE EARTHQUAKE CENTRAL and next week is fine. Not dipping below freezing at all. Lucille even commented be we should get it dewinterized Tuesday before we pick up the coach. Then we looked at forcast for departure week Highs will hit mid 30's lows mid 20's. Lucille swore we get charged for dewinterize at CG for destroying the Septic for them ( She swears it is the same antifreeze as cars take) and I was concerned about the 3 days between scheduled having done and departure. So I called them Answer they are on a sewer system so go right ahead flush lines once you get here So now we have to leave here by 8am so I can do what I have in front of me
