Note: The previous version of this thread has been closed and is no longer a sticky. It will remain on the board for reference if needed.

This thread is a place to share information on the smoking policy and designated smoking areas at Disney resorts.

    A couple of ground rules:

    1. Be respectful. Smoking is a hot topic, but arguments and attacks have no place on this thread. Such posts will be removed, and may result in infractions. Respectful discussion of the smoking policy is fine, but please, keep it civil.

    2. This is not a debate thread. If you feel like ranting about how smoking should be banned altogether at WDW or should be allowed everywhere on property, or how e-cigs shouldn’t be treated like cigarettes, send it to wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com instead of posting it here.

Off-topic posts will be removed without comment or notification.

What’s Disney’s policy on smoking at resorts?

Smoking of tobacco, e-cigarettes, or other products that produce smoke or vapor is only permitted in designated smoking areas.

That means no smoking in resort rooms, or on balconies or patios.

    Disneyworld.com: Park Rules and Regulations

What happens if I do smoke in my room or on my balcony/patio?

Violations of the smoking policy carry a fine of $250-$500, plus tax, for each occurrence. And no, it’s not just a threat. They really do fine people.

    Disneyworld.com: Smoking Policy Enforcement

Seriously? I can’t vape or smoke my e-cig in my room or on my balcony?

Yes, that’s the policy. See the links above.

OK, so where can I smoke at my resort?

See this link for maps of each resort, with designated smoking areas marked.

    Resort Maps

I know this is the Resorts board, but where can I find maps of the DSA’s at the theme parks, water parks, and Downtown Disney/Disney Springs?

Check out that resort maps link above. If you scroll up on the page, you’ll find a whole bunch of other maps. :)

Hope you find this information helpful. Let us know if you think anything needs updating or correcting.

And it's always best to check upon arrival at any particular location where the DSAs currently are. Within the parks, Disney is always moving them around, removing them, etc. so check a map upon arrival.

    - Print out the map from the website for your resort (and resorts you have an ADR or plan to visit) before you go, the at the resort maps no longer show smoking sections on them.
    - The My Disney Experience App has accurate locations of smoking sections anywhere if needed. (There might be some exceptions to this when something like a construction wall suddenly appears in Disney Springs cutting off your path to the section). There will be a place nearby the construction wall that is now a smoking section in the surrounding area.
    - A smoking section will have ether 1: trash can with an ashtray on top, 2: trash can with an ashtray in the side, 3: something else that is obviously an ashtray. If you don't see one of these, your not in the smoking section or it was moved.
    - Disney will call in police if you don't listen to the requests to stop smoking in/near your room or anywhere not designated. I've seen it escalate to parents in handcuffs being escorted off property on almost every trip.
    - E-cigs and similar are considered smoking in disney. Check the allowed items list, not all e-cigs are allowed into the parks. (allowed list was recently updated and the old rule of refillable ecigs was removed, you might want a non-refillable backup with you)
    - Get a paper map every time you go into the parks, smoking sections will move overnight. don't forget the app if you forget to get one.
    - When in doubt, a cast member near where you think the smoking section is can almost always point you to where it was moved. If not, they will have a map that's accurate to help you look.
    - If they sell bottled hard alcohol, the cashier closest to the liquor has a drawer with a small selection of cigarettes in it. Every resort this is true, never tried in the parks. Last time I purchased them, they were $11USD. (discount for those from nyc!!!)
    - Sosa Family Cigars in Disney Springs sells them with a slightly wider variety than the resorts offer. They are located on the west side across from Bongos near AMC and cost the same $11 as the resorts the last time i checked. (if you have the time, see below for the nearby springs gas station that sells them for even less and more variety)
    - put your cigarettes and lighter/matches in a zip lock bag, you will get wet with no warning.
    - AK has no smoking sections in the back half of the park (the last time I looked).
    - in AK, the smoking section near dinosaur that you can't find is the old raptor trail. It's the only place with a tiny smoking sign with an arrow on a fence post. The map is incorrect and the entrance is near the restrooms where the smoking symbol is, the trail no longer connects to the area next to the dinosaur ride building.
    - The gas stations (formerally hess) sell them for less than resorts. One is walking distance across the parking lot in DTD (now disney springs), just cross the parking lot at planet hollywood. There is now a pedestrian walkway to get over the highway instead of crossing at the corner and the parking lot is a construction zone. uber or taxi from DS might be better (and taxi's readily waiting there) There are 2 more located within disney property for those with a car, you probably passed at least one of them on the way in but if you have a car, it's less money to leave property and get them even lower cost.
    - You *MIGHT* be able to walk from the boardwalk to the hess station across from the parking lot. I can't tell from google maps/earth but it doesn't appear unsafe but there is no cross walks across Epcot Resort Blvd (there is one nearby to the second parking lot)
    - In 2014, DTD (now disney springs) changed from smoke anywhere to smoke in designated areas. With construction some of them can be tricky to find but a CM near where it shows on the paper map/app can point you directly too it. They are still there, just a little hidden in some areas or shifted because of construction.

I've never seen anyone escorted off by the Police for smoking. I've made about 6 trips since the policy change about smoking in rooms/on balconies. Not saying I don't believe you. There must have been more to warrant Police involvement and certainly more to involve handcuffs. It's their policy. Not a law. They probably refused to stop and were told to leave and refused resulting in a trespass charge. I've actually never witnessed this being enforced ever. Even at AKL when the people next door smoked on their balcony day and night (don't think they ever left lol) and that is with the cameras pointing at the balconies. I don't know why people can't follow the rules. It is inconvient to walk Down to the DSA's, but we do it. Don't want any trouble.

I witnessed it first hand and it happened exactly like you described, trespassing. I was at Beach Club hanging out on the balcony reading while my family was enjoying SAB and heard/saw the entire thing. Mom and Dad both smoking on the balcony and were told 3 days in a row not to. On day 4 Manager and Security came down and said they had to leave. Both refused saying they "paid their $400 per night to stay here and aren't leaving". Manager stated their Credit Card was refunded the previous night's rate and the next 4 they were booked for. They were not having any of it and refused. About an hour later Manager, Security and 2 Policeman come back with Police stating that they are trespassing and will have to leave. Again they refused. Officers stated if they don't pack up their stuff and go they will be arrested for trespassing. Again they refused. Mind you their are 2 kids about 6 and 7 there also begging the parents to leave, but no. The officers pleaded with them to pack up and go but after 45 minutes finally took Mom and Dad away in handcuffs while kids were crying. It really wasn't pretty.

I never witnessed the smoking or what lead the police to be there, I was just having my coffee in a smoking section and watched the parents walk of shame in handcuffs past me. From other other accounts, it does seem more than fair before it's at the police stage, but they will call the police on you :)

I edited my original post to include this info.

Wow, these are pretty extreme stories, hahah. I don't know why anyone would put themselves and their kids through so much trouble. I use a vaporizor now and am almost down to zero nicotine in my juice. I know I still have to abide by the same rules as smokers.

I was a smoker our past 3 trips. Did I agree with every smoking rule? Maybe not. Did I still follow the rules? Yep. It's not about me being right... it's about not wanting drama on a vacation.

In May I witnessed the police dealing with smokers.. But these smokers were kids, two boys that couldn't have been older then 15, one was really small, I would guess he looked like 10 and his friend maybe 14. We were at Pop standing out on the balcony and it was after midnight, and they were standing out on the walkway underneath a light smoking something, it wasn't cigarettes, it might have been black and milds or whatever their called. We watched them for like ten minutes then went back inside. We went out maybe 20 minutes later to see if they were still there and sure enough they were, but with cops.

Wow what a shame. Ruin the entire vacation. I guess they didn't realize they were leaving one way or another. Stubborn fools, poor kids.

Is the smoking area at the All Star Music just an open area with benches next to the food court entrance? The last time we visited we stayed at POP, and it was like that. Smoke really bothers me, and I am hoping to be able to avoid the smoking area if possible.

I'm a cigar guy... i might have one per month only though in the summer months and close to nil in the colder winter months.

I was looking forward to having a cigar on my balcony at WL.

Thank goodness for this thread stating it's not allowed or I'd be kicked out of Disney!

Love the post, always nice to see helpful information on the boards. The past 4 years I've made it a habit to go out and find a bench/fountain near by my room with cigar and a glass of scotch. Mind you it's typically pretty close to 10PM when I do this, but nothing has been said to me yet. Hopefully I continue not to run in to any issues. I find this is a nice way to wind the day down.

I was doing some pre-trip planning when the topic of smoking came up.

I went to the "My Disney Experience" app and then loaded up the 'search' feature to check out hotel and park smoking locations. What happened next, surprised me. I couldn't find any. Not a single one anywhere. Strange. So, I typed in 'smoking area' and then 'smoking' into the search box and it returned "Le Cellier Steakhouse", "Raglan Road" and "Characters in Flight" o_O

So, I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong or missing something somewhere. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be very helpful.

So, after some digging I came across a map of the park (Magic Kingdom) that showed smoking locations. I would love to get some help here if someone has the time.

It seems that I can only find four smoking spots (as of September 2015) in all of Magic Kingdom. Is this correct?

They are located at this spots (in no particular order):

1 - FrontierLand in the back near the exit to BTMR
2 - Off to the left of the hub in a garden area near the bridge to AdventureLand
3 - And two on the back path that leads from TomorrowLand to FantasyLand by the train station. One at each end of the path.

    Four is all there is?

Does anyone know of any others for Magic Kingdom?

    Thanks in advance.

That actually sounds about right for the MK today. WDW eliminated two of the older locations over the last (I think?) 3 years.

On mydisneyexperience look under guest services for parks or hotels and its designated smoking areas. Might be under things to do 1st. I only see 4 spots to smoke at MK. Last year there was a spot behind the castle that I loved...but I don't see it on the ap.

10pm - away from other guests: Not a problem ( like a cold IPA at that time too)

I hate the smell of cigars but it's not an issue with me at that time of night, now 10am that's a different story (with a glass of scotch too) ;-)
