This new RoL Dessert Party was announced on the Parks Blog:

“With this new dining experience, you can add a sweet ending to your day by enjoying a beautiful buffet of Disney’s Animal Kingdom-themed desserts, snacks, and drinks before enjoying VIP views of “Rivers of Light.” You’ll start by checking in 60 minutes prior to the main show (8:15 p.m. for a 9:15 p.m. show) at the Rivers of Light Asia Viewing Area Terrace located across from Expedition Everest. Here you’ll enjoy house-made desserts, snacks, specialty alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, iced tea, lemonade, and water. When the show is about to start, head down to the VIP Seating Area, where you’ll enjoy exceptional views of Rivers of Light.

This exciting new dining experience will take place on select nights starting on Saturday, August 11, 2018. Starting today you can make reservations by visiting the Walt Disney World Website or call 407 WDW-DINE (407 939-3463). Price is $79 for adults and $47 for children (tax inclusive) and must be paid for in full at the time of booking. Guests must be at least 21 years of age or older and able to present a valid form of ID to consume alcoholic beverages.”

The first party night listed online is Saturday, August 11. Maybe the 6th is a private event or soft opening. The "select nights" it runs are Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.

So, the Parks Blog is posting erroneous, confirmed info? :D

Someone should Tweet @WDWToday.

Just pointed out it is more expensive to stand around in an unairconditioned terrace and eat desserts than it is to book a RoL package at Tiffins ($67) or a RoL package at Tusker House ($39B/$52LD). This is going to be a hard no for me.

No doubt! I guess maybe they're expecting the "unairconditioned terrace" to cause the adults to pound more of the specialty alcoholic beverages thereby justifying the cost. In general, I think the cost is pretty much inline with the other dessert parties.

The HUB also says Aug. 6th.

Is this managed by the PEO group? I'm a bit surprised on the somewhat late-timing of the announcement since the first party is less than 30 days out and this is only being offered 3 nights a week. I'm curious to see how well it books.

MK is inline but has no dining packages for FEA. EP hasnt monetized their waterfront restaurants for dining packages to Illuminations (yet) So both of those have nothing to compare. At HS there are both dining packages and dessert parties for Fantasmic. The dining packages are more expensive than the dessert party wit the exception of H&V breakfast which is $4 cheaper.

Plus the dining package at Tusker House is only one dining credit on the dining plan, so I will be sticking with that. (I honestly could skip the show, but my kids liked it...)

My inline comparison comment was of the various dessert parties themselves, which the pricing is definitely inline and really dependent on whether the offering has seating, alcohol, or some other item....they've been pretty consistent with those. I don't think Disney really compares the dining package pricing to the dessert party pricing and puts them in different categories, but it's definitely something to look at. Also, none of the dining package pricing is tax inclusive (plus gratuity), so there is some additional cost to those.

The breakfast at Tusker House is almost half the price! That is what I have booked.

The FEA and SW parties are both $79 for adults and $47/$45 for children, however they include beer & wine plus one or two activities. Guests at the SW party also receive a souvenir gift.

My thinking was along these lines as well. We've done a number of the dessert parties and we are doing the FEA one in August and I always evaluate cost against what I'm actually getting for that cost. With HEA, I'm willing to pay the upcharge to avoid crowds and stampedes. For SW, it was a guaranteed, unobscured (I'm short!) view of the show (plus the Stormtrooper escort and gift were a bonus!). For FEA, it's seating and, basically, a purchased extra FP+ for FEA. This? I'm not getting it. As Ipereira pointed out, I can get a full (and really good!) meal (with dessert!) and ROL viewing for less at TH or Tiffins. There just doesn't seem to be any value here. Now, if they threw in a ride on FOP, they'd have something! What is "VIP" seating for ROL? All seating in that theater, IMHO, has a pretty decent view of the very, mediocre show, LOL!

So did they get all the "floats" working properly?
They work as they are currently required to do.
But, some say that they have never lived up to their original “potential.”
