Resort Parking Fees to be enforced

They shouldnt allow any one in unless they have a magic and that shows they pay for parking at another resort. They checked mine at boardwalk and yachts club. If u pay at one you good to go anywhere which is great.

I'm sorry, I'm not quite following this. Are you saying you can only park at a resort now if you are staying there or if you can show you are staying at another resort? You can still park at a resort if you have an ADR, correct?

There has been no change in the written policy at this time. A guest can drive and park at another resort if they have an ADR or even if they don't and want to eat and shop. That is not a guarantee though. They won't just let you park for no reason at Contemporary or BLT.

I believe the PP was just voicing their opinion.

I'm confused as to how they haven't figured out how to charge people accordingly for parking. When you drive in at the kiosk, are they not checking MB's or asking people if they have ADR's? I would think if you have an MB, they could scan it to see if you have a resort reservation or an ADR. If you don't have an MB and are visiting from offsite for an ADR, couldn't they pull up the name on the reservation? I think to really crack down on this, they are going to have to limit parking to those with resort reservations or ADR's and then, perhaps, for the people with ADR's, they will have to show their dining receipts when they leave? Or they need to implement some type of "parking garage" protocol where if you don't pay, you don't leave. Or designate resort parking and a separate ADR area so you couldn't park your car in the ADR area and then leave it for a week? I think it's kind of odd that they implemented the overnight parking fees for resort guests but didn't figure out how to actually enforce them. I've stayed at countless non-WDW resorts with parking fees and they seem to have this down. It's not rocket science and pretty standard industry practice. The last time we were at BWI, I noticed a camera upon driving in that looked like it was situated to take pictures of everyone's license plates. I really thought they were keeping tabs on people that way - I was obviously wrong!!

They are checking MBs at the kiosk however prior to this the guard was not in charge of enforcing whether you pay or not. That is where the new CM comes into play. They are cracking down on people not paying for the overnight parking. People who used online check in could get out of not paying because they never visit the front desk.

Ha - well we did online check-in at 2 resorts earlier this month and they still found a way to charge us. :-)

Scanned MBs at both resorts, I figured that's how they connected me / our car / our resort reservation.
Obviously its not a standard if you do online check in you don't get charged but people have reported getting out of it that way. Disney wants to make sure people who are supposed to be paying are doing so.

Last week we had a reservation for Boma on Saturday prior to checking into ASM on Sunday. They asked for my license at AKL and let me right through. My dad then dropped me off at ASM on Sunday and they only asked for my ID. I never scanned a magic band. I checked in at the front desk. On Tuesday, I noticed they were charging me parking fees. I went back to the front desk and was told that it was because my dad dropped me off and I should have told them at the gate that I was not parking. I'm assuming they matched my reservation when I presented my ID at the gate.

Disney wants to collect parking fees, but it doesn't want to work too hard to do it. Hiring a bunch of parking monitors is just a waste of money -- cuts into your profits.

Disney also doesn't want to miss out on revenue from people visiting the resorts and eating.

What will likely happen is that every now and then, Disney will "crack down" on parking to generate some publicity and attempt to dissuade people from pulling the wool over their eyes to avoid the fees.

I'm glad to see that at AKL it will be enforced. We are grandfathered in this time and have had problems finding a parking space in the past.

this resort parking policy is a disaster.

I agree, if the real issue is people parking who don't belong there, charging a fee won't resolve that. Why not just increase the room price and do aware with extra 'fees'? Last time we were in LasVegas noticed all major casinos now charge daily parking fees (about $20..used to be free) and added a daily $40 'resort fee', so even if you think your room is being comped, you still pay $60 in extra fees that didn't use to exist.

The OP's article being quoted is from another disney 'related' website. I often find those type of sites are posting opinions and not really official disney information. If people want to use resort parking to go to a park, that is the issue to resolve. I agree as mentioned above, the magic band seems like a more effective way to do this.

If someone has an ADR they shouldn't be allowed in? If someone wants to spend money at the resort they shouldn't be allowed in? Not everyone tries to abuse the system.

My mistake was talking about visiting. Yes obviously ADR should be allowed. That’s completely different.

Correct. If you have ADR you can. They check your reservation to confirm at lot entrance. Or check to see if you have paid hotel parking at ur home resort.

Disney adds to the mess by allowing people to park at resorts during some seasons and on non weekend days. Being inconsistent is frustrating when a guest is planning to park at resort because they parked there yesterday, last month or last year.

Yeah but the people they worry about aren’t the ones who pay at another resort.
They know most hotel guests are going to resorts for reservations or a quick visit.
That’s why there allowed too plus they already paid. Most Disney resort guests are driving themselves to parks or using Disney transportation. It’s the non hotel guests that are issue.

I agree. But I used to visit frequently and stayed both on site and offsite, most often Wyndham Bonnet creek. I was allowed to park at Boardwalk without an ADR on some onsite days, not others. I think it had to do with either the occupancy of the hotel rooms or how many cars were parked at the moment. Probably the later as it varied even on the same day!

Not to rehash the whole parking debate, but I really, really, really wish that Disney would just follow Universal's lead on this, instead of just adding an extra CM. At Uni, you get a ticket at the parking gate entrance. The daily parking fee if you are NOT a resort guest is around $40. If you are a resort guest, you still pay for parking, but it's discounted, around $25. If you are a resort guest, you just use your room key (in Disney's case, the magic band) to enter and exit the parking. The parking is not manned, if you are not a resort guest, you pay at the machine the per hour/per day fee. If Disney still wants to encourage shopping and dining, they can validate 2-3 hours of parking, like restaurants at all major metro areas do.
