DVC members get free parking when “paying” for their room with DVC points or paying cash through DVC as opposed to Disney Reservations. The reason is that our member fees already pay for the DVC parking lots (and other “common areas” of the DVC Resorts), and they can’t charge us twice.

Just wait till the resort fees are tacked on. Wonder how long that will take?

We stayed one night at Pop on Oct 30 and we were charged for parking. We didn’t park in a handicap spot as they were all full, but we had the hang tag up from the time we went through security till we left the next day.

If you had a handicap placard you are owed a refund, I would call.

This is why I think the reasoning has something to do with trying to deter ppl from driving vs just a money grab. Most deluxe parking lots are smaller than the other other resorts & more ppl tend to visit for shopping or dining. Is there really any reason to visit a value resort that you aren’t staying in?

When we last stayed onsite, we told them at the front desk on arrival we had a HA placard, it was noted and no charges.

Do not rely on the front gate, security or anyone else but yourself to the front desk that manages your bill.

Do you really think folks have a choice one way or another for the most part? We drive to Florida, nothing is going to change that so all this will do is discourage us if they charge us. Folks who fly in and rent a car usually want that car to save time, stop for groceries, leave property for a variety of reasons. Not getting it could drastically change their trip and at some point may find offsite more desirable. I think the number of folks who have brought cars ... to now not bring cars .... will be miniscule.

Definitely not thrilled about the parking charges. I'm a local that lives about 40 minutes away so there is no chance that I don't drive.

We're AP holders so it's been a very long time (10+) years since I've paid a parking fee at WDW. We're staying at the Grand Floridian in a week and I am interested to see if they charge me or not. I don't remember seeing the parking fees listed anywhere when I booked nor is it listed on my confirmation, but it was through the Destination D convention site/rate so who knows??

I think many have a choice, but flights are more than the fee anyway so I don’t think someone would choose to fly over driving to save on parking fees. But, some may opt not to rent a car b/c of the fees. I’m not saying that it’s an accurate calculation on Disney’s part. Just saying perhaps that’s why the fees are different with different resort categories. Sure hope it has something to do with it b/c if not my argument would be I’m already paying more for the room, I should at least get the same priced parking as lesser categories.

Sadly I think you are paying more cause they already got you to pay more for your room. What’s a few more bucks!

So we are staying off site this trip. We are planning on going to Jelly Rolls one evening to celebrate our DS 21st bday. My entire family is coming on this trip so the plan is Epcot during the day and Jelly Rolls that evening. We have AP's so park parking is not an issue. Where are we supposed to park to go to the Boardwalk and Jelly Rolls? We can't leave the cars at Epcot as we won't be able to re-enter to get to them after closing and if they don't want us parking at the BWV then where do they expect us to park?

You could park at DHS and walk to/from Jellyrolls. However, chances are pretty good that you would be permitted to park at the Boardwalk, especially if it is after Epcot has closed. You just cannot park at the Boardwalk and then spend the day at Epcot followed by spending the evening at Jellyrolls.

Where did you read that people with handicapped placards get free parking? I'm not challenging you-I'm really curious. I haven't read that for sure anywhere. I have a handicap placard, but didn't know.

Pressed Coins - There is a Yearly set and the All-Star resorts always have coins
Pin Trading - There are special pins that are only released on Cast Lanyards, and the resorts do a better job of refreshing the lanyards and removing fake pins than the parks do.
Pin Buying - Pop Century, especially, will have stock that is sold out elsewhere + the annual resort holiday pin
Holiday Decor - While not as spectacular as, say Wilderness Lodge, is unique to each resort
Food - The Value resorts do a good job maintaining variety in their menus. It is not atypical for us to visit one park, drive to a value for lunch, and then head elsewhere after.

In the press release when it was first announced that they will be charging for parking overnight. It's also on the WDW website.

We have a handicapped placard and I've never been able to find anything from Disney themselves that says parking at resorts is free for me. The website only says that there is handicapped parking but not that it is free unless you valet. This does not help at moderate or value resorts ....

    Parking for Guests with Disabilities
Designated parking areas are available throughout Walt Disney World Resort for Guests with disabilities. A valid disability parking permit is required and standard parking rates apply.

    Parking
Valet parking at Disney Deluxe hotels is complimentary for any Guest with a valid disability parking permit and a current room or dining reservation at that particular resort. Designated parking areas are available for Guests with disabilities at all Disney Resort hotels. A valid disability-parking permit is required.

Here (and regurgitating blogs) is the only place I've seen it reported as free so last visit the front desk was told that our group (most came on bus) also had a car which has placard and parking was waived. I don't know if it was normal procedure or if because the vehicle was part of a group booking. I have a long trip planned in January on property because the rate was good, but if I have to add parking, I would likely move offsite to better lodging. I will continue to follow folks experiences on here to verify, but it would be nice if Disney would publish this info to the website.

Orlando standard is that handicapped do not get free parking, even at brands that traditionally do it in other cities. I don't know why Disney would do this as a policy other than to avoid backlash. Disney is a popular destination with folks with disabilities, and while they are in compliance legally they in no way have enough handicapped parking spots at hotels. It would be like paying for something they are not providing so maybe the hope is, I won't charge you - you don't complain. :confused3

Just for my own info and to take with me next trip ..
... do you have a link to the actual Disney release
that stated this would be free? Thanks.

Didn't think about DHS however when we were there in early Sept the Gondola construction was so bad that I am not sure there is even a way to walk there and back any longer! The parking lot was all torn up and the Disney Bus parking was moved way out...

It is the hill I would die on. We fly, so I really should not have a complaint, however if my family wanted to rent a car, and I knew I needed to pay parking fees, I am pretty sure I would just stay elsewhere. I am pretty peeved about this fee as it is, and as I said, it does not affect me.
