Point perplexed

I would love to know what these points are all about. Can anyone explain in simple terms how they work, what they cost and what is the difference between buying them direct from Disney vs buying from someone who is selling there's. Past four years we have stayed at various villas in the park and we are not DVC members so it cost a fortune. Is it cheaper to become a member?

Disney Vacation Club is a timeshare owned by Disney. Here is the link to DVC with a much better explanation than I can give:

You can buy direct through Disney or resell through an individual or a broker. Obviously it's cheaper to buy resell but there are some clauses that Disney has added if you do. There's an ongoing argument as to which is the better way to go.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily 'cheaper' but I think the break even point is around 10 years of paying cash for deluxe resorts vs using points instead. It depends on how you vacation, what your points cost and if you finance, for starters as to when you'd 'break even'.

I know there's tons I've left out. Feel free to ask away.
