Philly airport - hotel?

I will be spending the night in Philly prior to flying out the next day. I know there is a Marriott which is on airport property, but the reviews weren't great (room smelled musty, room smelled of bleach, bathroom was disgusting).

Does anybody have a hotel they can recommend? I don't need access to any activities in Philly, just need a clean, non-smelly, safe place to spend the night with shuttle to the airport.

If you want an airport area hotel, choose the Marriott. Other nearby motels are not as good. An alternative would be a center-city hotel, and take an Uber or cab.

You're right - I shouldn't be fixated on a shuttle to the airport. I could stay further from the airport. I'm fine with Uber/Lyft/cab. Thanks for making me think this through.

From the Philadelphia area but have over the years stayed at the airport prior to travel or occasionally for a work function. The Marriott is attached to the airport and, is ok. Not great by any stretch. There are a couple of hotels in the area around the airport that offer a shuttle. We recently stayed at the Aloft at the airport prior to a trip. There is a shuttle back and forth. The parking is not free but if you’re not using it for park and fly that shouldn’t be an issue.

For a quick one night prior to an early flight I have a hard time justifying Marriott pricing at PHL. Everyone’s mileage may vary and it’s not really, for me, about the reviews, we just didn’t like it when we stayed there.

We stay at the Marriott if we have an early AM flight. Never had any serious issues with the rooms or smells. I will say the corridors are cold. We been using the hotel for over 19 years now.

The Renaissance is very nice! It has gotten mixed reviews in the past, but has been renovated the past couple of years.

We stayed at the Wyndham Garden Hotel near the airport. It was clean and provides free shuttle service. We were pleased.

We stayed at the Marriott in January. Very long story short, there were prostitutes in the lobby escorting men to their rooms. The reservation desk clerks weren't even phased by this.
My 11 year old will likely never forget a scantily clad woman yelling "Robert Dave" across the hotel lobby as the prostitute seemingly didn't know the man's name. Of course, my 11 year old doesn't know that the woman was a prostitute either.... and tells EVERYONE this story. :(
The Marriott is NOT family friendly. And I will never forget that that happened and we will never stay at the Marriott again.

Oh my God. Thank you for posting.

We always stay at the Renaissance. I book it through one of the park, sleep, fly companies. It is very nice has a great lounge for getting a bite to eat and shuttles run frequently.

Wow never had that experience . And we usually sit at the bar having a beer or 2 watching a game before going up to the room.

This was right at midnight -- or maybe 12:15am. Our flight was delayed and we arrived in Philly a bit later than we anticipated.
I'm from outside of Philly and travel home twice a year. Because we were getting in late we opted to stay at the Marriott and shuttle to the rental car place the next morning. Make no mistake that this did happen -- I was traveling with my 21 year old daughter and her 21 year old fiance as well as my 11 year old. Sadly it was VERY clear to all of the adults what was going on.

I stayed at the Marriott connected to the airport about a year ago for work and it was great. It could not have been easier to walk off my plane and into the hotel without even stepping outside. If you're local, it was easy to walk to the Marriott from the train station as well. When I left, there is a corridor that leads you to the B terminal (I think it was B) that has its own separate TSA entrance. There were zero people waiting at security here, almost like a secret entrance. My flight wasn't out of B terminal but I was easily able to get over to where I needed to be by using this entrance.

We like the Courtyard at the Naval Yard. It is about a 5 minute drive up 95 but it is new and quiet.

We stay at the PHL Marriott at once or twice per year. It’s fine for what it is. You pay for the convenience of being able to walk directly to the terminal.
