I don't know why the credit frequency for my credit card rewards has changed but it definitely has. I used to have something go through so my totals would change a little bit daily but now it seems to come in larger chunks instead where there will be nothing for three days and then big additions for three days. Weird. It's not a problem, just something I noticed.

Anyway, DS came home today (he's 13) and told me he was rich! He slapped two nickels down on the table in front of me and said that he had found them on his way home from school. Then he walked away.

It took me right back to when he was a four year old. We had taken the kids to Daytona Beach, Port Canaveral, Disney World and then gone on a little Bahamian cruise. It was our first big family vacation (DD was nearing six at that point) and we stayed off site, has six day base passes and had a total BLAST!! Before we went, DH was adamant that Disney World was a one-and-done situation but on the long drive home, he was already taking that back!!

We'd been home about a week or so when my little man comes out of his bedroom and asks me for a container or jar. I asked him what he wanted it for and he held up some change (he didn't get an allowance yet at that point, DH and I just gave him our spare change each week for his piggy bank) and told me he wanted a Disney jar so we could start saving for the next trip. I teared up a little, not gonna lie and found him something. He decorated it and put his money in it and then told DD and DH when they got home from school/work that they could add anything they wanted to the jar to help save for Disney.

We've had a (vacation) change jar going ever since and it's all thanks to him!

We'd been home about a week or so when my little man comes out of his bedroom and asks me for a container or jar. I asked him what he wanted it for and he held up some change (he didn't get an allowance yet at that point, DH and I just gave him our spare change each week for his piggy bank) and told me he wanted a Disney jar so we could start saving for the next trip. I teared up a little, not gonna lie and found him something. He decorated it and put his money in it and then told DD and DH when they got home from school/work that they could add anything they wanted to the jar to help save for Disney.

We've had a (vacation) change jar going ever since and it's all thanks to him!

Yikes indeed!! Technically it's not a FIELD trip in that they aren't leaving the school...they are paying to bring in a professional for her P.E. class to teach them self defense and personal safety. So, the guy is coming in to teach her class for the whole week and it works out to $25 a kid. Pricey, but I guess I get it.

**I got $30 USD from the in laws this past weekend when we went down to visit. They tucked that into a Mother's Day card for me and I added it to the US cash we have on hand. I altered the individual total to reflect it but it doesn't show up at the top since that money is pretty much all in Canadian funds. And it's a big amount because I didn't track for like a week, so that's over eight days of earnings/savings. And I am starting to lose heart because (now that we are starting to get to the end of the school year for the kiddies) thing after thing after thing keeps coming up and sucking the dollars right out of our hands. I feel like we have been super broke since March and the trip savings have just been limping along...with no end in sight!

We do have a reckless back up plan...to ensure we have the total amount we need...but I'm still really hoping to avoid diverting money from our savings (which is the reckless part) if we can possibly help it. We still need to raise like $1000 though and we've only got 11 weeks in which to do it!! Better not think about that too much or I'll start to freak out!

**Okay, so I know my math doesn't work out right...but I cashed in some survey rewards for a $40 Amazon e-card. My daughter then used it to make a purchase and she paid me in cash...which went into the vacation jar...but she was a few dollars short ($3.64 in fact) because taxes...so when she gets her allowance at the end of the week, she'll pay me back and things should square up then. Anyway, what I wrote at the top is correct but doesn't match the individual totals because of the shortfall. But don't worry...cause I'm on it!

I totally feel your pain. We have had a very expensive last 2 months, with unusual expenses. I'm hoping that they stop soon. As my earnings from the extra job I'm working to help pay for the dd destination wedding, are helping to fund all the extra expenses we have had the last couple of months. We do have the money saved for the trip it's self...but with the hubby working int he trades, and his vacation paid on every paycheck, we have been using that holiday pay to help with the extra expenses. Sigh. Oh well. If nothing big comes up for the rest of June, we will be caught up by the end of the month, if we cut back on a few things...which we are doing. But it always seems like something seems to come up. oh...And we also need to put new shingles on the roof yet this summer and grade the front yard yet. sigh...it's always something

I totally feel your pain. We have had a very expensive last 2 months, with unusual expenses. I'm hoping that they stop soon. As my earnings from the extra job I'm working to help pay for the dd destination wedding, are helping to fund all the extra expenses we have had the last couple of months. We do have the money saved for the trip it's self...but with the hubby working int he trades, and his vacation paid on every paycheck, we have been using that holiday pay to help with the extra expenses. Sigh. Oh well. If nothing big comes up for the rest of June, we will be caught up by the end of the month, if we cut back on a few things...which we are doing. But it always seems like something seems to come up. oh...And we also need to put new shingles on the roof yet this summer and grade the front yard yet. sigh...it's always something

Yep! It stinks.

We had a close call with the vacuum (it broke but DH was able to repair it...phew) but the bottom fell out of the BBQ (sigh) so that's a thing now and I *just* snapped the handle off of my swiffer wetjet when cleaning the kitchen floors after lunch today. So, yeah. Not cool.

The swiffer is still useable, just annoying to have to bend that low but the BBQ is unsafe to use until it's fixed--not a priority right now (and we JUST replaced the propane on it before it collapsed...so that was a waste of money...I tell ya!!).

DS needed a new water bottle, so we got him a good one and it was $15 (eek!), I had to sign up for chips for grade eight grad night (cheapest option), we had to get a fan for our bedroom and I had zero summer wardrobe (I've lost 50 lbs so my stuff from last year has long since gone the way of the donation bag), so that was a thing. Oh, and DD and I need razor refills so we can actually WEAR shorts/capris without scaring everyone. Hahahaha!

And all that was just in the last week!

**Sooooooo...that dang exchange rate keeps climbing and every couple of months I have to recalculate how much we really need in Canadian Funds. And the budget just keeps on growing.

I had to add $85 to the amount we had set aside for the Disney package/base cruise amount and add $275 to the total we are still working on pulling together. I have to pay the cruise balance next week, so I'm not holding out hope that it will come down again, but that sure would be nice!

Ah well...as I tell my kids..."head down, and power through it!!"

Edit** Thankfully my math was wrong in my favour!! Somehow the pre-trip charges column was written in Canadian funds already, so when I changed everything to 33 cents on the dollar, it was off by about $200. So, it was really only about $75 more for the total we are still working on...a nice number!
