'OHANA means CHUNKY! An Aug 2017 Family TR THE END 4/26 - The Last Day and Trip Epilogue!

Caught back up with your report! Again, made the mistake of reading your report while hungry. CH's main dish from Nine Dragons looks amazing. Or maybe your report just MAKES me hungry... Either way, I can't wait to see what the surprise in Japan is! <3

I thought we could eat inside the area that has air conditioning, so I told DH to get some nachos while I sent everyone else to sit down. I myself went into Mexico to get myself an Avocado margarita. I asked if anyone else wanted anything but they said they will get something later. I walked out with my precious margarita and went straight to the dining area, the one for La Hacienda de San Angel, which I thought was open at the time, but when I went to open the door, it was locked and wouldn't budge. I wouldn't give up so easily though, I kept tugging at the door like an idiot, margarita in hand, because I wanted some air conditioning damn it!
:rotfl:Picturing this is so funny. I would want some A/C too.

These nachos are delicious, I highly recommend them. We all enjoyed them it it proved a perfect pre-dinner appetizer. Yum.
My favorite CS at Epcot, I love the nachos.

Immediately, the bartender goes "ID please."
CT1 (clueless):"Oh I don't have ID."
Me (exasperated): "Ying! You're ruining everything!"
CT1 (innocently): "What, I thought everything was on our magic bands?"
Me (frustrated, to bartender): "Sorry, she left her ID in the room, but I'm buying the drink for myself." (crosses fingers)
Bartender: "Fine, but don't let me see you giving her the drink"

He lets me buy the drink. Thankfully I was not kicked out of Disney for buying my non-under aged sister and BIL a drink.
You guys are such rebels :rotfl2:

To drink I shared a beer with Steve, called Lucky Buddha, an Enlightened Ale. I absolutely LOVED the name of it and the bottles it came in!! The beer was pretty decent, better than a bud light. I was not sure with the name "enlightened beer" if it was a light beer or not but it tasted like it was.
This bottle is so cute

After dinner I told everyone to head over to Japan as I had a surprise for the girls....
I'm guessing pick a pearl???

Finally all caught up. Happy Birthday to all who celebrated / are celebrating. Those nachos and margaritas look delish.

I can't believe how many snacks you guys had before your dinner at Nine Dragons! I would not have been able to eat my dinner if I had all that!

What is with the folks who don't bring their IDs with them? I think there is some sort of unwritten law that you need to keep ID on you at all times, like in case of an emergency, how can they identify your body if you don't carry ID. Just kidding. :rotfl2: Sort of. What about a medical emergency? I mean I took a header on the Boardwalk (if you got that far on my TR). I wasn't hurt, but it could have been much worse if I didn't know how to fall down with the least amount of damage.

At least all that happened was that they weren't able to have as many drinks as they wanted. I always switch to a small purse at WDW so I can carry a P&S camera, cell phone, ID, CC in case MB scanners are down, AP for discounts on merchandise, TIW card, ibuprofen....you know the important stuff!

Nine Dragons looks really tasty. We have lots of great Chinese Restaurants in So Cal (as you know) and I've never ventured there because I always want to try things we don't have readily available. But perhaps sometime we do need to try it. Both your soups looked great, but I'm a Hot n Sour fanatic, so I'd have a hard time passing that up.

Your cruise is really coming up soon!

Finally caught up again!
Happy birthday to all the October bdays!! And sweet Caylee too-OMG are the kids adorable!!
My oldest turned 20 yesterday (at MNSSHP) and my middle is 15 in 10 days.

Thank you!
Happy birthday to your kids too!:cheer2:

Fish and chips is my sons happy place, while grand marnier slushies are mine:rotfl: Although the tequila bar inside Mexico is a close second happy place.

Haha they are all the best places in Epcot! My favorite snacks and libations!

And the tale of drink ID reminded me to remind my MiL and SiL to take their ID with them!

Oh definitely, especially if they want a margarita!

It definitely is! But I'm also the person who has to have everything just in case so forgetting your ID is so weird to me!

I know! Tell me about it. I want to bring my life with me all the time, that's why this whole double bag check think is driving me nuts.

Right!? Throw me a bone, here, universe! :rotfl2:

:dog2: <-- Attention Universe! Need a bone for Tracy, please!!

Epcot has always been my least favorite but I’m actually looking forward to it now after reading your TR! I’m especially looking forward to the frozen coke!

I love Epcot, just something about all the rides in Future World and the world showcase, it really calls to me, LOL. Loved it since I was a kid.

I also wanted to say that we ate at Nine Dragons a year ago and loved it. But we tried to order things on the menu that we a bit different than the normal mom and pop Chinese restaurant. We ordered the Shrimp Typhoon, it was REALLY good.
'Shrimp Typhoon
Golden fried shrimps with fried shallots, garlic spice and a touch of jalapeño'
From the disney web site. I am not clamoring to go again, but if we were in EPCOT and wanted to sit down, I would def go there in a pinch last minute.

The problem is there are so many good restaurants in the world showcase!

I have your problem exactly...so many good restaurants to choose from and so little time to eat them all!
Although that Shrimp Typhoon dish sounds really good! I would totally eat that, unfortunately it wasn't one of the options on the family meal.

:sad2: Won't hijack Su-Lynn's thread.

Please hijack away as I'd like to hear this story too!

Caught back up with your report! Again, made the mistake of reading your report while hungry. CH's main dish from Nine Dragons looks amazing. Or maybe your report just MAKES me hungry... Either way, I can't wait to see what the surprise in Japan is! <3

LOL, we do like to eat!

:rotfl:Picturing this is so funny. I would want some A/C too.

It was soooo hot!

My favorite CS at Epcot, I love the nachos.

They are so good! I dont' know why but I always crave the nachos here but I don't normally crave nachos. It's the Disney crack they put in everything including the popcorn!

You guys are such rebels :rotfl2:

That we are. :cutie:

I'm guessing pick a pearl???

:rolleyes1

Finally all caught up. Happy Birthday to all who celebrated / are celebrating. Those nachos and margaritas look delish.

Thank you!
They were delicious! It's like the perfect snack!

I can't believe how many snacks you guys had before your dinner at Nine Dragons! I would not have been able to eat my dinner if I had all that!

Haha we are called the Chunkies for a reason...

I agree, I always bring my ID...and everything else that comes with it, LOL :rotfl:

At least all that happened was that they weren't able to have as many drinks as they wanted. I always switch to a small purse at WDW so I can carry a P&S camera, cell phone, ID, CC in case MB scanners are down, AP for discounts on merchandise, TIW card, ibuprofen....you know the important stuff!

Yup I want to bring my life with me all the time so I tend to carry bigger bags, and then at WDW I have to downsize, it's almost like I'm naked, haha.

Nine Dragons looks really tasty. We have lots of great Chinese Restaurants in So Cal (as you know) and I've never ventured there because I always want to try things we don't have readily available. But perhaps sometime we do need to try it. Both your soups looked great, but I'm a Hot n Sour fanatic, so I'd have a hard time passing that up.

the hot n sour soup was good, everything else was just ok, but we did not try everything on the menu and I'm certain there are other dishes which are better prepared.

Your cruise is really coming up soon!

less than 2 weeks!! I'm sooooo unprepared...

Oh my gosh, your nieces and nephews are all so stinkin' cute!!!

Your asian meal looked very yummy; $24 for appie, entree and dessert is a pretty good deal (especially at a Disney restaurant!)

So a frozen coke...is that just like a slurpee or....?

Ah here is that elusive Elsa picture missing from my last update!

They look like one happy family!

Day 3 Part 4: It's always an adventure in MK....

We left Nine Dragons and headed over to Japan. It started to rain on and off at this point, luckily the strollers all had their covers on them. We walked over to Japan and headed inside Mitsukoshi where I presented all of the girls with their birthday gifts from me and Steve. They each got a Disney Gift Card, a pearl cage shaped like Cinderella's carriage, and yes you all guessed correctly, we were going to do Pick-a-Pearl!

party:party:party:

Sophie and Mimi were over the moon happy. They had seen videos of this on YouTube and even talked about it with their mom before the trip and were begging to do it, so they were just so excited! Even though Sophie's birthday is in December, I of course had to include her too, and Caylee's birthday was only a month away at that point as well, and it was really nice they all got to do it at the same time. Eva and Caylee kinda had no clue about where pearls even came from so we gave them a quick lesson on oysters but I think they were kinda grossed out by the oyster itself and couldn't believe a pearl came out of it! :rotfl:

It wasn't too crowded at that time so I went up to the cashier and bought 4 pick a pearls for the girls. The layout is a little different now, it used to be in the back of the store on the left, but now it's on the right, near the Mikimoto pearls. It's now more of a display with a little better lighting and there's a tv screen that shows a birds eye view of action. Each girl had to pick out an oyster from one of the tanks. It looked like there were two tanks one on each side of the lady opening the pearls. Hard to describe but here is a picture:

Here's a little video I took of the "reveal" of their pearls. They open the oysters, take out the pearls, clean them and measure them.

Sorry, it's hard to see the actual pearls, so I will describe what each girl got in the order they were opened:

Eva - large classic white pearl
Caylee - smaller twin white pearls so she got two!
Sophie - a silvery-blue pearl
Mimi - pink/coral colored pearl

and here's one of the pearls (think this was Caylee's) in the pearl cage I got them:

I'll see if I can get pictures of the other girls' necklaces too.

I think this qualifies me for Cool Aunt status for life, right?!?! Hehe. :thumbsup2

The kids and adults shopped around Mitsukoshi a bit more. Think Bryan really liked the Pikachus.

Bryan really liked Sophie, he called her Auntie Sophie! (Ady-So in his toddler speak). It was really cute and they formed quite the bond.

So by this time, the younger kids were pretty much done, so the twins went back to the Poly, taking the monorail to the TTC and walking back. Meanwhile, the rest of us hopped on the Express Bus Transport over to MK! We were going to watch Happily Ever After! I had told everyone about how great this show is, so Sophie and Mimi were pretty excited.

When we arrived it was around 8:30pm or so, and we walked over from Tomorrowland to the castle. We were amazed we got some pretty good spots to the right of the castle. It is actually better than the left side I think as the fireworks just look more cohesive from that angle.

While waiting I tried to get another refill of popcorn in my "old" popcorn bucket, the one I got in May, but alas they said I couldn't use that one any longer and I had to get the new bucket, which instead of green is a metallic blue. Oh well, so I got a new bucket.

Here's me with my old bucket:

It's such an awesome show. I like it more and more each time I see it, which is about four times now. It gets more familiar, and you can follow the narration a bit better. The music is also so awesome too. It's worth battling the crowds or getting there a little early to see it in person at least once!

After HEA, everyone aside from CS and I headed back to the Poly. I said "hold on" and I poured my popcorn from my new bucket into my old bucket so that the girls had something to snack on later, and I could just get another refill. We wished them "good luck" in maneuvering through the after fireworks crowds while CS and I headed over to PoTC where I managed to get a last minute FP+ yay!

I'll take the Redhead!

I refilled my popcorn bucket, then we went over to BTMRR and got on with barely a wait. So excited to do this as I skipped our FP+ for it on our first full day.

As we were going down the final loop, our train suddenly slowed down and came to a complete halt. I thought the train would start moving again but it did not for about 2 minutes. Then the loudspeaker came on and a CM said that due to technically difficulty the ride was being shut down. They said to stay put and someone will come rescue us momentarily.

We were stuck on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!! :scared1:

Any other person would probably be rolling their eyes. But not us.

No, we thought it was the BEST THING EVER!!!!!

Where else would we get cool pictures from "behind the scenes" of one of the most classic Disney rides? Although I did have to jump about 3 feet down from our car to the platform which I wasn't expecting.
The CMs were really great and came and escorted us off really quickly. Then we walked down along the track and out the emergency exit. It really only took about 15 minutes total.

Haha what a night and we barely did anything!
We decided after our wildest trek in the wilderness to just head back as we were pretty tired, so we walked through the shops on Main St a bit before taking the monorail back to the Poly.

Coming up...a DHS morning and who wins the big eating contest at 'Ohana?!? :rolleyes1

I've been on Splash during the day while it's broken down, but I have to say, getting evacuated at night off of BTMRR looks really cool. I still need to see space with the lights on via the people mover sometime....but I do prefer space to be running (catch 22) and yay for popcorn::popcorn::

What a great gift for your nieces, I am sure you have awesome aunt status for life now! We did this and Andi chose the Cinderella carriage for her pearl as well. How cool to be evacuated from BTMRR, only us true Disney fans think that is neat, lol! We were evacuated from LM Under the Sea, we were in front of Ursula and we were stuck for about 15 minutes and a lady started to scream and panic so we all were evacuated.

You definitely have the cool aunt status for sure. The necklace was adorable. I can just imagine how much fun it was for the girls.

I'm with you on getting stuck on BTMR. So cool. Once in Disney I got stuck on Space Mountain and they turned the lights on. I thought was was so cool to be able to see how it all works. I bit scary too but fun non the less.

That is such a great gift and memory for the girls! And the pearly cage is soooo pretty! It's really cool that everyone got a different type of pearl!

It's such an awesome show. I like it more and more each time I see it, which is about four times now. It gets more familiar, and you can follow the narration a bit better. The music is also so awesome too. It's worth battling the crowds or getting there a little early to see it in person at least once!

Oh, I loved it so much! I wanted to see it a second time but we were delayed at BoG and came out during fireworks. We tried to get around to the front of the castle but had an obscured view of only part of the show :(

After HEA, everyone aside from CS and I headed back to the Poly. I said "hold on" and I poured my popcorn from my new bucket into my old bucket so that the girls had something to snack on later, and I could just get another refill.

Smart!

Totally agree! It's so cool to see backstage stuff!

Ah here is that elusive Elsa picture missing from my last update!

Yeah Elsa! Is it me, or do all of the Elsa just not look right?!? Maybe it's the way they drew her that she just doesn't translate to real people. I don't know...

They look like one happy family!
Ha! Very progressive!

They each got a Disney Gift Card, a pearl cage shaped like Cinderella's carriage, and yes you all guessed correctly, we were going to do Pick-a-Pearl!
YEAH!!!! I guessed correctly! Def best Aunt status, especially since they really wanted to do it!

but I think they were kinda grossed out by the oyster itself and couldn't believe a pearl came out of it! :rotfl:
This is totally what my girls would do/think.

Sorry, it's hard to see the actual pearls, so I will describe what each girl got in the order they were opened:

Eva - large classic white pearl
Caylee - smaller twin white pearls so she got two!
Sophie - a silvery-blue pearl
Mimi - pink/coral colored pearl
I didn't realize that they had different kinds!

This is a silly/stupid question, but how too they know that there is a pearl inside?

No, we thought it was the BEST THING EVER!!!!!
I would think any of us on these boards would think the same!

You had popcorn too! You wouldn't starve. Ha!

What a great aunt you are! I love the Cinderella's Carriage necklaces to hold the pearl, also.

I keep forgetting to ask you, can you get flavored popcorn with the refill bucket or does it have to be plain? I can eat my weight in cheese popcorn.

BTMRR breaking down at night has to be one of the highlights of the trip! So cool! Thanks for sharing the awesome pictures, too!

They look like one happy family!
Amazing!!! :thumbsup2

a pearl cage shaped like Cinderella's carriage, and yes you all guessed correctly, we were going to do Pick-a-Pearl!
Yay!!! I was right... I had a feeling I would be ;)

I think this qualifies me for Cool Aunt status for life, right?!?! Hehe. :thumbsup2
Oh, for sure! Card-carrying member.

Bryan really liked Sophie, he called her Auntie Sophie!
Awwww

I'll take the Redhead!
Yeah, better be quick about that, too!

We were stuck on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!! :scared1:
WHAT?!?!?!

No, we thought it was the BEST THING EVER!!!!!
I am SO jealous!!! Your photos are incredible! What a fun experience!

What a fun time! I'm sure getting evacuated from big thunder is something you will always remember.

Did you get the pearl cages at Mitsukoshi? My daughter got a great pearl on our last trip and I need a cage for it.

This is adorable and I love it! I may steal this idea and do this with L when she's older

Express Bus Transport

RIP :sad::sad: I wish they were still in operation for this weekend!

It's worth battling the crowds or getting there a little early to see it in person at least once!

I'm so glad that I won't be tempted to see this when I go this weekend because I'm honestly excited that HEA is something that all six of us will experience for the first time together next summer.

Although I did have to jump about 3 feet down from our car to the platform which I wasn't expecting.

OMG B LIFT EVAC!! That happened to me about 10 years ago and at the time I had a pair of glasses that fell off at the drop of a hat so I was blind getting out of there. It was horrible (also pretty fun)

These are so cute and such fun presents!

Wow you got amazing pictures! I guess the trick is to get there right before it starts.

The music is also so awesome too.
I don't know if you watch Dancing with the Stars, but I just found out one of the celebrities on it, Jordan Fisher, is the male singer of the main song.

I'm pretty sure being rescued from a ride is on every Disney fan's bucket list!

So jealous that you got evaced off BTMRR:D DS and I got stuck on Forbidden Journey at Universal while on our backs once. They even turned on the lights, but alas, no evac. It started up after 5-10 minutes.

The pearls and carriages are great idea. I bet the girls loved them.
