We're taking the in laws this time - but they are only staying for one week, at Disney, then going to a beach for the second week. They have said they don't want their Holiday to be "too Disney" :scared1: (What the hell does that mean, you can never be too Disney in my opinion lol)

So they're just going to have to lump it, as I don't know how to do Disney in second gear, so they can have a fun Disney packed first week then recover during their time on the beach lol.. :rotfl2:

This will be an interesting trip as I've never been in January before - so wondering what the weather will be like (Although I am sure it will be hotter than the UK)

Also I really hope they are running the festival of the Arts again as I love and Epcot Festival and by that I mean the extra food and drink lol

So is anyone else going to be out there for some after the Festive season Disney fun.

Also has anyone been in January before and give me some tips on what to pack :jumping1:

So glad someone started a January thread! We will be at WDW from Jan 20-28 staying DVC at the Polynesian. We are avid January WDW travelers. Weather can be as hot as 80 and as cold as the mid 40's. The key is to watch the forecast a few days before you leave and pack LOTS! You don't want to be stuck buying a pair of gloves and a hat from WDW - you can imagine the cost...

January is a WONDERFUL time to hit the parks. Lines are minimal if you don't hit the marathon time or MLK weekend. A few of the attractions are under refurb usually, but, not enough to spoil a trip.

Ohh thanks @neitzelt for the advice :bitelip: sounds like how I would pack for when I visit Scotland in the summer lol

Although as I'll be coming from a grey, wet and windy London, even if it's not that warm as long as I see the sun I'll be happy

I checked the dates and we will miss the Marathon weekend and I think MLK day is the Monday before we arrive (Although being a Brit I'm not that good with American Bank Holidays (not even sure you call them bank holiday but that what we call national holiday over here, e.g. Easter Monday Bank Holiday))

So fingers crossed it's less busy and the lines are not that long :thumbsup2 as I'm really looking forward to seeing Pandora and trying out those new rides - Planning to get a FP+ for one and queue for the other.

Okay have just started a Roll Call in the original thread although bit thin on the ground.

But hey if not many people are going definitely will mean smaller queues and I'll be able to get the BOG booking lol

We're going! We have a Savannah View booked on rented points Jan 6-10 though we are now also considering staying one night at a value and going to Epcot on NYE. We're flying to Orlando Dec 30 and visiting family the first week of January.

We're just back from Disneyland so now I am in full excitement mode for this trip.

Yay @otten sounds like a fun trip!! Especially the NYE at EPCOT heard it's amazing.

And another January person we are currently a small group but perfectly formed group lol :cool1:

I'll be there with my BF Jan 3-4. Short trip, I know. But the 5th to the 8th we'll be on a Disney cruise! Getting at least the 4th at MK. 3rd will probably be Disney Springs and meandering. BF isn't really a Disney fan (also hasn't been to the parks ever), so he's taking it easy.

**Update**
Going to be in DHS on the 3rd, and staying at POP. Also turns out the boyfriend isn't a big planner and doesn't understand why I'm planning so much (using Touring Plans to help make sure I get all the rides I'm aiming for.

yay @ministrychick77 a short trip is great, wish I lived closer so I could just pop down for a couple of days.

I'm sure you'll have a great time, especially with a cruise booked as well, lucky.

Also as for the BF, the first trip I took with my folk way back when, my dad insisted he wasn't a Disney fan as was only going to please us kids; and as soon as he went and saw MK he became a huge fan and even though my FIL says he not a fan, I plan to convert him as well.

The Power of Disney cannot be ignored lol..

I kinda wish we lived closer too. But honestly, I'd be happier living closer to Disneyland. We're in Northern California.. Lol

Toying with the idea of trying to squeeze in a trip before oldest turns 18, or maybe a cruise. So we might do early January. He is meeting with an Army recruiter in two weeks so once I was done drying my tears (and he hasn't signed anything yet...) my wheels have been turning that I may need to do something to celebrate earlier than I thought! I have been thinking of a short WDW trip and then a 4 day cruise if we can get a military rate. Just wanted to jump in and think about the planning a bit because it's happy. ;)

You're more than welcome and so far, and only judging by this page, January might be a quieter (well what ever quieter means now in Disney - maybe a 40 min wait for SDMT rather than a 100 min wait lol)

And as for no set plans not a problem as I plan and pre-plan all the time, I'm already pre-planning my pie in the sky 2019 trip,(have no idea how I'll afford it but I'll worry about that part later :) ) as I really want to come when Star Wars land opens. :chewy:

But a trip for a pre-18 celebration would be such fun.

18 eh, my 18th was so long ago I can't even remember what I did - definitely didn't go to Disney though as I would have remember that. :rotfl:

That's kind of my hope, that it would be quieter. His birthday is the 13th so I'm thinking if we can squeeze something in before I'm charged an "extra adult" fee, even though Disney has been charging me adult pricing since he was 10, that would be good! LOL!

I was going to take a year off for the most part as we are planning a big cruise for my parents 50th in 2019 and I thought we'd do a land part beforehand for SW land, but if he can't come to that because he's in the military I'd like to do something special for him. (Side note: I have NOT mentioned this to my husband so we'll see how that goes! LOL!)

We will be on the DCL starting Jan 15 for 4 night cruise to the Bahamas, then to WDW for 4 nights starting 1/19. It's our first cruise :sail:. We have lovingly dubbed this trip our "Emptynestermoon" since it will just be us after 8/2017. 2 kids in college, so Mom and Dad will be at Disney! Not sure where we're staying yet, but we're leaning toward Pop.

Good to have you on Board @IndianaRRT (see what I did there lol ;))

A Emptynestmoon sound heaps of fun, just think of all the relaxing without the kids- on my trip I'm travelling with a 4 year old  so I think the only relaxing I'll do it the five minutes after he falls asleep I am able to keep my eyes open before the exhaustion takes over lol.

But I so want to do a DCL trip, desperate to visit Castaway Cay and basically try all the food on board :rotfl:

Well I hope you have fun and welcome to the January club, I have added your trip details to the top post, but as I know there kinda fluid at the mo, do make sure you post when you have finalized your fab plans.

Haha! Thank you for your pun! I'll be sure to update. Happy planning everyone!

LOVE the January trips. I have one in the works, but no dates set in stone yet, so I won't join the roll call yet. :(
I agree wholeheartedly with being sure to bring a hoodie or a light jacket or something. I remember standing at RD one year and shivering my butt off. As soon as it opened, I went in and mortgaged my house for a Tigger hoodie, haha. Gave that one to my sister when I got back home.

@bladiator a trip in the works is still great and fingers crossed you get it all sorted :thumbsup2

Also thanks for the advice (both you and @neitzelt) will definitely start looking for a nice lighter jacket now (yay another bit of pre-holiday stuff only add to the excitement).

As if I wait till just before I go over here it will all be heavy winter coats Brrr.

YAY so glad to see a January 2018 thread! We haven't confirmed dates yet but aiming for around January 24th - 31st staying at POFQ. We just got back from a week long trip in November. We actually originally booked a Disney Cruise for May 2018 (would have been our second one) but had so much fun at DW that we took a family vote and decided to cancel the cruise and do another week at DW instead. :) We'll do DCL for our next big trip after that in 2019.

I'm curious about the weather at that time as well but I live in Canada so we're used to wearing layers. As long as there isn't 3 feet of snow and I don't have to wear a parka, I'll be happy. :rotfl2:

@BurTam we went in November as well, so not having a big trip this year to pay for our January Epicness

I'll add you to the role call with a question mark but as soon as you confirm I will update.

Wow I thought it would be cold in the UK but 3 foot of snow, the most we'll have it a bit of icy and lots and lots of rain, with that sort of weather you're going to need the sun.

Fingers crossed about the plans and hope you get them all sorted to as come July we're all at our 180 window, planning my dinning options as we speak.

Yay! The thread for my trip is here!

I filled this out on the official Port Orleans dates thread, but I'll post it here, as well!

1/2 - 1/8 - POR - @FelisLachesis

The kids aren't coming this trip. I asked them all, they all declined to come. The oldest is actually coming this summer on a school convention, the middle doesn't like Disney (GASP!), and the youngest is still in high school, so school will start up as we're there. They're all very close in age, and all adopted, but I love them all as my own.

Their mom and I are going specifically for the Marathon Weekend. I was a certified couch potato at the beginning of this year, so I want to make changes in the right direction and be able to run three miles without dying (or three yards).

My girl is an avid runner, and she wants to do this before it's too late. She actually has a fractured lumbar, and it's developing arthritic symptoms, so she may not have many more marathons left in her. She's mostly able to run solely because she runs so much, already. She's fortunate that she loves to run and that gives her the ability to still walk.

She's going in head first into the weekend, running all four races for the Dopey Challenge before hanging up her marathon shoes.
