It's no longer a standard option, but if you are ordering from a place serviced by one of the Deluxe Resort pastry teams, they should be able to re-create it.

This is the cake I ordered for my son’s birthday. It was delivered to Kona Cafe from the Grand Floridian bakery on Tuesday, Oct. 23. It was a mini cake - chocolate cake with chocolate filling and chocolate frosting. With tax, it was about $37.

It tasted excellent. I just wish it was a little bigger for the price, but I realize everything at Disney is expensive.

My son was so excited about the cake and I’m really glad I got it.

My last trip to Disney we were sitting next to a family at Tusker House that got a huge cake. They had a picture of a little girl and were celebrating a birthday. They offered cake to us. I found out that the child had drowned but the trip was already planned so they were celebrating what would have been her 3rd birthday. Was so sad but also so special that they included us.

Oh, my heart. I hope it brought the family some joy and peace to share their celebrations with you, and likely with most people they talked with during their visit.

Here is my progress update! All 5 of my mini cakes were finalized with Jane today at WL! So 5 days start to finish. Contemporary would not make a toy story themed mini cake :( so I chose a pink and white Minnie themed cake instead for that one. They also, at 1st, wouldn’t make a pink and blue frosted gender reveal cake (not colored cake...just colored frosting..pink on one layer, blue on the other). I re-worded the request as 1/2 Cinderella blue and 1/2 Aurora pink and that worked. Emailing pictures of cakes WDW had already done seemed the easiest path. All in all a very smooth process! Very excited to see all the surprised faces at our big celebration at Artist Point! I will post pictures in a couple weeks.

Our haunted mansion birthday surprise cake was a success!
Delivered to chef mickeys, 6 inch vanilla cake w/ raspberry mousse. Vanilla buttercream under the fondant and I left design up to the bakery team. Total cost 89$ and well worth it!

    What a great cake!

I am thinking of what birthday cake I should get in March and an attraction like ToT came to mind. This helps with inspiration.

This may sound strange, but has anyone ever heard of ordering an ice cream cake from anywhere on property? I saw something on the first page about Raglan Road in Disney Springs, but I was wondering about a custom one somewhere?

Disney's pastry teams won't do ice cream cakes, unfortunately. I'd just order some ice cream to plop on the cake! That way, the cake's at the right temperature and the ice cream's at the right temprature.

After quite a few days of “phone tag,” I was finally able to speak to Pat at the GF to order my daughter’s “Sweet 16” birthday cake. We’ve had them do 2 previous cakes for us—both with a Stitch theme & both very nicely done. This year, I requested a Pandora-themed cake because my daughter loves that section of Animal Kingdom so much! I explained that I was hoping for the look of luscious green foliage with brightly colored flowers & some lighting effects because of how the area is lit up at night. (No creatures, just the look of the land.) I mentioned that a water-type area would work, too, if they wanted to include it in the design, but it wasn’t a must. I was told that the designer that pours the sugar for things like that was very booked up for the next 2 weeks and probably wouldn’t be available by our date to do it. I was also told that would need to be on a 10 inch cake to make it look right and the total would be $225. I quickly declined because that was way more than I had in mind! I was then quoted $165 for an 8 inch cake due to the fondant work that she said would be involved. (I was thinking this was a bit higher than our last 2 cakes, but can’t remember exactly.) When I asked if anyone had ever requested a cake like this because I couldn’t find any pictures online, she said, “No, this is going to be hard.” Yikes! That comment made me slightly nervous, but I trust that she understood my concept. And she did actually assure me of that. By the end of the phone call, she sounded a bit more excited about it and cheerfully told me that she hoped I would be pleased with the cake. My hope is that the cake team takes the idea & excitedly runs with it because it is a bit different than what they’re usually asked to do. I look forward to reporting back here in a couple of weeks!:)

Oh! And btw, because our cake will be delivered to Kona, we were told our card would already be charged & it would not show up on the bill, but we would need to pay an 18% tip on it while there because Kona has to send someone over to the GF to pick it up. This was also our previous experience with the charges & tipping, but wanted to add that it was still the same in case anyone was wondering.

Really? I had a cake delivered to Kona last week. I had pre-paid for it and wasn’t charged extra gratuity.

The other 2 times we were also at Kona & the gratuity didn’t show up on the bill then either. However, because we were told on the phone when we ordered that we should expect to tip for the cake, too, we planned for that & did. Now your response is making me wonder what the etiquette actually is...Maybe @lurkyloo can comment?

Thanks for bringing this up so we can see!:)

Yeah, I’m feeling bad that I didn’t tip on it. Totally slipped my mind as it wasn’t on the bill.

But now I’m thinking, how would the tip money get to the “runner” vs. the waiter? Our cake was $37 (including tax). I’m not sure I can justify giving the waiter an additional $5 just for plunking a cake on the table. We cut and served it ourselves.
