Saw this on another page, has 3 concept renditions for the new Atlantis resort:

There is still no sign of any construction on site (we just returned from Aulani on Saturday). Talking to a friend of ours who lives across the street from Aulani word is things are stalled with permit issues. Another sticking point is there is no gambling in Hawaii, and developers are worried about not having a casino (it would be the first Atlantis resort without one).

I would imagine the concern is similar to Disney not having a park there. At the end of the day you're just like every other resort in Hawaii with only so much to separate yourself from the competition.

Here's another artistic rendering from the ocean side, looks like there are pools planned on that side as well:

I stayed at Aulani in 2012 when the resort itself wasn't even complete, so interesting to see future plans for that area. Thanks for sharing!

That rendering makes it look like pedestrians lose the ability to walk from lagoon 1 to lagoon 2. I like being able to jog down to the Ko Olina Beach park and back.

Plus on more then one trip to Aulani, lagoon 1 has been closed due to sewage spills and I have had to spend the day at one of the other lagoons.

I hope that rendering is wrong or there is still the walkway crammed in there.

I can still see the sidewalk in the rendering. It drops down like that now. What I am surprised is the landscaping doesn't appear to block their pools that much or they just decorative water displays?

The other Atlantis resorts do have a lot of water features that are not pools. Could be parts of the aquarium.

I give it a 50/50 chance that this resort gets built before 2025. It has been talked about since well before Aulani was built.

Has it been that long? What has been holding up the project? I wonder how it will impact AUL once it's built.

It was talked about as one of the first resorts to be built at KoOlina.

I think holding out hope for Hawaii to allow a casino has been the #1 holdup.

A friend of ours who lives across from Aulani also said that developers have been in a holding pattern with the inability to have a casino in Hawaii.
