Need help making a cake, please.

I need to make a ladybug cake for dd's bday party saturday. I haven't been able to find a cake pan in the shape of a ladybug.

I did find directions to make it in a bowl. But I can't find the website again.

Are any cake decorators out there that can give me simple instructions on how to bake and decorate a ladybug? I can only do basic star tip cakes. Please help.

You can make a simple ladybug with just a round cake pan or two.

Very simply, go ahead and bake your round cake... when you go to decorate, divide a line about 2-3 inches from the top of the cake, and color that black for the head. Frost the rest of the cake in red, then make a line from the head down to the bottom with black. Add black polka dots on the red, and use black licorice or pipe cleaners for the antenna.

If you want to do a little more, you can bake a large circle and a smaller circle, cut them both in half. Use half of the small circle as a head. Seperate the larger circle halves at one end, but touching at the other, and that makes wings. You can fill the gap either with additional cake cut to fit, or with chocolate whipped cream, or something similar.

I like the graphic on the food network page. I think I'm going to try that.

Or I might just decorate a round cake to look like the round ladybugs on the invitations.
