Need help decorating my daughter's room

My daughter has only three items in her room. She needs proper curtains with blackout panels, but when I try to order them, I realize she needs a rug. And a proper squishy armchair. And a new comforter. By the time I've done all this, I'm ready to have a panic attack over getting everything to match.

She is 4 years old and would happily have everything all pink, all the time. I'm trying to get some other colors in there so it will last longer than young girlhood. Here are some photos:

These first three pictures are from the vantage point of standing in the doorway.

This is more standing by the rocking chair.

This is standing by the dresser.

I'm thinking the rug is the first thing I need, since that's likely to be permanent and others thing need to match it.

Please help me, O gods of creativity.

Does she like a certain Disney princess or anything? Does she want a theme or just a general color scheme of pink? This will help get my creative juices flowing. :thumbsup2

Oh, and I assume you won't be painting the walls, correct?

I'm not planning on painting the walls. They're actually not as yellow in real life, more off-white.

She likes all Disney princesses, although her favorite changes from week to week.

I think a Pink/Green/Brown color scheme would be nice for a girls room.

Here is a quick and very dirty photoshop I threw together from some items I found online, to give you a basic idea of how it may look. :thumbsup2 For the rug, I would get a neutral, solid colored one, like a chocolate brown. That way, whenever you decide to change the colors again, it will still work. Then some pink in the bedding, drapes, and the fun canopy should be plenty of pink for her! :thumbsup2

Here are the items in case you like any of them:

Hope that inspires you some! :)

I would pick a print comforter...even if it's a princess or barbie or whatever and choose the other colors once you have that piece. For the chair, I would choose the neutral color from the comforter or a neutral like tan that will blend. I would also choose solid colors from the comforter for the curtains and if you are going to use a dust ruffle for the bed. Pick a complimentary print for throw pillows and other accents...and maybe a secondary color from the comforter for more accents. There are so many choices for the rug...even a carpet remnant would work. Also by buying the comforter/bedding first, it's much easier to carry when you need to match the colors.

By choosing the chair and curtains in more neutral shades, you will not have to change them as she grows older just the bedding. Also realize sometimes "neutrals" are shades of greens and/or blues.

The other option is even though you aren't going to paint, go to Lowes or Home Depot, etc..an pick out some paint chips in colors that you and she like and use that as your starting point

Thank you so much! That is exactly the kind of advice I needed! I never even thought of chocolate brown.

No problem! :thumbsup2

And if you do want to add a bit of a Disney touch, wall decals are a fun way to do it (perhaps on the wall opposite the window?). Fathead has quite a few Disney princess designs to choose from. A little pricey, but I bet your daughter would love it!

Or craft stores like Joann's and Michael's also have vinyl wall decals with flowers, robots, whatever! So maybe you can add a bit of color to the walls that way.
