Has anyone done the 4 night Mexican Baja Cruise? We are doing an all girls vacation (first time), and not too sure what to expect. We leave LA, with stops in Catalina Island, San Diego, Ensenda. Any suggestions on what excursions we should do?

Thanks,

Linda

This is a really nice cruise, I'm sure you will like it. All girls vacations are the best!!

Catalina Island is pretty easy to tour on your own, there is a lot in Avalon (one of the main towns) which is right off the dock that you will tender into. You can walk to the Casino (the famous round building that you have probably seen pictures of), visit the beach, shop and rent kayaks all within easy walking distance of the pier. There are also golf carts that you can rent to drive around the island (I believe there are no cars on the island).

In San Diego we went on the trolley around town. You can book this through the ship, or go on your own. I think its about $25 a person, but you may be able to find coupons. The tour is really nice because you can get on and off as you please, and there are lots of stops. We got off at Coronado and went to explore the Hotel del Coronado for awhile (a must if you haven't seen it, its amazing!), and we also got off to visit old town. The trolley has a guide who explains the history of the city and talks about what you are driving by. There are about 7 or 8 stops and you can get off at as many or as few as you would like. We made it back to the downtown area (near the ship) with plenty of time to go shopping and explore some more. Sea World and The San Diego Zoo are other popular attractions, worth considering. Mission Beach is gorgeous, with some pierside rides, nice sand, good waves and some fun touristy shops. I'm not sure how far it is from the pier though.

I can't really say too much about Ensenada, because we just went shopping and came back to the ship early to relax a bit before dinner and to enjoy our last night aboard. There is good shopping though, lots of nice glassware, purses, jewlery and much more. Duty free is always a good thing (especially on an all girls trip). I've heard that La Bufadora, a geyser like thing a little ways from town is really neat, but I didn't make it there.

I hope that you have a great time.

You must be going on Monarch of the Seas. My daughter and I were on that ship during her spring break in March...great cruise! I did the San Diego Trolley Tour - ticket booked ahead of time online to save a litle money. In Catalina we went on 2 tours that we booked when we got there: a scenic tour of Avalon and also the Casino tour. We saved 25% by booking 2 tours at the Discovery Tours office right by where you get off the ship. In Ensenada we went on the winery tour - visiting 2 wineries (even though I am not a drinker...thought my 21-year-old would enjoy it). We were dropped off in town afterwards, so we ate lunch there and walked around a bit.

You will have a great time. I've done this trip a few times over the years and never had a bad time. Two excursions that I would suggest in Ensenada would be to go to La Buffadora and to go on the winrey tour. We enjoyed them both. And unless you are wanting a drunk fest, skip Papas and Beer. I went in there early one trip, and almost didn't find my way out. Ended up running to the bus to take me to the dock. Seriously though, you been to one Papas and Beer, you been to them all. Lots of fun, kinda wild and crazy too.

I have been on that cruise several times. Have done the horse back excursion and wine tasting excursion in Ensenada and the Bufadora (not as good as it used to be it is really commercial now) I have also just walked down to Papas & Beer and partied :drinking1 party: and taken a taxi :car: down to Puerto Nuevo (small lobster village about 30 minutes south of Ensenada they are famous for lobster and margaritas). We've rented atvs :moped: and just drove around the city and then hit Papa's & Beer. Of the Cruiseline recommended excursions the wine tasting was our favorite. But we really enjoyed the atv's and partying. If you have never been to Ensenada, The Bufadora is always cool to look at, at least once.

Catalina, well no comment, I have never liked Catalina...

Great, thanks for all the terrific ideas. Sorry I never thanked all of you sooner, but my computer had to be retired (not by choice) and we just got our new computer up and running....yippee.

Our age group is ranges from 25 - 73, but we are all very open on what excursions we do. Thanks again.
Linda
