Laptops...advice & help...

The missus has been "given" a laptop by her school.
It doesn't have a floppy drive.
I've got a digital camera.

Storage and transference of data looks to be getting a problem.


I'd like advice as to the best external storage system. Zip drives now seem to be being overtaken by re-writable CD's.

Anyone "in the know" about the best external CD-rewritable to get????

You can get external cdrom burners, but if the laptops got no floppy or cd you may have trouble getting the drivers on.

What size hard disk does it have?
(older portables only had small drives which would not be big enough to burn a cd from )

Has it got a USB socket ?
Printer port?

Whats the make and model no ?
(You may be able to pick up a floppy drive for it)

How are you going to get the camera into it?

What operating system is currently on there?

Sorry more questions than answers but a little more info may make giving advice easier.

Most laptops have a PCMCIA slot which alows things like modems and network adapters to be fitted. You can also get interface cards for Compact Flash and SmartMedia cards. So you would be able to use the card from your digital camera to transfer data.
Another alternative is to use the serial/parallel port and something like Laplink software.

I may not have explained myself properly...

I want the external CD-Rewritable to store my photo's, rather than keep them on my PC hard drive.

Also we'll need it to transfer data from PC to laptop & vice versa.
