Just Keep Swimming - a January 2019 TR (Complete & new TR link 8/26)

The new kitchen is absolutely beautiful!!! I hope your eye has stopped twitching by now :)

Sounds like a nice, slow start to the day! I need to build more of those into my trips because sometimes they are just what's needed!

The vikings are really funny! They were out when I did the 5 and 10K races last year, and I remember cracking up at some of the things they were saying!

Thank you! Yes, my eye has stopped twitching. Until I remember I'm going to have to pack and move!:faint:

Sounds like a nice, slow start to the day! I need to build more of those into my trips because sometimes they are just what's needed!

We had a late night planned so we didn't want the kids to make it miserable but when I go back on my adults only trip, there will be no slow starts lol

The vikings are really funny! They were out when I did the 5 and 10K races last year, and I remember cracking up at some of the things they were saying!

I love them!

Congrats on the new house, love the kitchen, very nice

Thank you!!

I love Via Napoli, makes me want some right now!

It's so good!

Thank you everyone for all the nice words about the house! I will share some more pictures once we actually get moved in. I am so excited about the new house, but also so, so stressed out over it. We are kind of taking a risk by buying the new house before selling our current one, but it will be so much easier to sell the old house and get a better price for it if we get all our things out first and fix it up with some fresh paint and things like that. Hopefully we are not carrying both payments for very long. I know it will be all worth it in the end but I wish I could just fast forward to August when hopefully all of this will be wrapped up and I'll be on my way back to Disney :D

Wednesday, January 16 - Epcot (Part 2)

After touring a few countries, we headed out of the WS to hit some rides. Our first stop was at Test Track, which was a huge hit the first day we were at Epcot and the boys were so excited to design cars and ride the ride again.

And also just sit in all the cars after because sitting in cars is something we never get to do at home.

Our next FP was open over at Mission: Space. We chose the green side because of the kids. Not at all because us grown ups were afraid of puking. Nope, it was for the kids. This was a totally unnecessary FP, there were two other people in the whole entire ride with us.

We got assigned our jobs and despite the kids not being able to reach their buttons and me missing my cue to do my part, we still somehow landed our ship safely.

After the ride, my kids found the little playground and spent a fair bit of time climbing around, which was great for them to burn off some steam and gave me some time to do some FP hunting - or so I thought. I had scheduled a throwaway SE FP for 9:30 that morning that we let expire in hopes of getting an afternoon Soarin' or FEA FP. Well at 9:30 this day, SE was down so I was awarded an anytime FP good for any second tier ride at Epcot, and that had to be used before I could schedule any other FPs. #planningfail

We finished up at Space, then took a bathroom break and then stopped for some snacks - H got a churro and popcorn while I had the kids in the bathroom and I grabbed a coffee from the Joffrey's stand. We gave the kids a choice for the anytime FP between SE and Nemo and they picked Nemo, so we headed over to the Seas.

Nemo was cute again, and after the ride the kids played around again while I checked out the FP situation.

I pulled up the FP screen and I still had only tier two rides available. :headache: I guess the anytime FP didn't count as my 3rd of the day?

There was a Crush FP available almost immediately, so I took that and then went over to that entrance and asked the CM if I could just scan our bands but not actually go in because our dinner reservation was coming up pretty soon and we were just wasting time at this point. The CM was kind of snotty about it and wouldn't let me scan if we weren't going to go in. So I modified that FP to another Nemo pass since the ride is much shorter and we headed back outside - this time DH talked to the CM and asked if we could scan without riding and she was super nice and didn't mind at all. That did the trick and I was then able to schedule any FP, but the whole ordeal had taken over an hour of our WS time - I had planned to start at Canada after Mission Space instead of spending time back at the Seas.

We headed back in the direction of the WS and stopped at Journey Into Imagination since we'd never ridden it and the kids thought it looked like fun. There was absolutely nobody in the queue and we were the only people in our entire set of cars, which was kind of creepy.

There's not a lot to say about this ride. The kids liked the games and things after the ride more than the actual ride, but we didn't have a ton of time to stop. It was about 5:00 at this point and we wanted to hit all the countries between Canada and Japan before our dinner reservation to finish the kid's passport. It was about this point that I realized I forgot to bring the cable to connect my power bank to my phone so we had to stop at one of the shops and buy a Fuel Rod.

We did a quick sprint through Canada, the UK, France and Morroco, only stopping in at the Kidcot stations for stamps and stickers. At France, the young man at the Kidcot table was very French and very charming and in front of us was a group of college aged girls with passports who were in no hurry at all to walk away from the charming French boy.

giphy.gif

Somehow we made it through all the countries and managed to check in for Teppan Edo right on time for our ADR!

I really hate how anytime FPs screw you up in terms of scheduling additional FPs! I've had that happen to me before as well.

Sounds like a good time in Epcot!

I have the same thing happen with an anytime FP and I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t do a tier 1, ugh!! I do love the Nemo ride and the aquarium area.

I loved the pictures from Jedi Training and one of the boys with Kylo Ren.

I made my son, 5 at the time, ride Space Mountain and he still hasn't let me live it down. He's now 16. o_O

Love the island in the new house!

Ugh, how frustrating. I thought as soon as a ride went anytime, the system treated it as "used" in terms of getting through your first 3 to get to a fourth. I know I was able to pick up 4th FPs with unused anytimes on our accounts.

Glad to hear that you got it worked out, but it stinks that it took up so much of your time.

I didn't know that's how FPs worked. That explains a lot from our last trip...

Bummer that the anytime FP threw a wrench in the works. So ironic too, considering they're supposed to save time and make things easier!

That's cute about the charming French boy, although YOU seem immune! :)

Thanks! It was a nice day. The anytime FP really threw me for a loop. Just when I think I've got Disney figured out...

It's so frustrating the way the system works sometimes!

Thank you! I'm so glad they do photopass pictures during Jedi Training, they got some really great shots!

That's a long grudge about Space Mountain! My kids are still angry about the Dinosaur ride, but I think the younger one would try it again now

I did have the ability to make a FP with the anytime in my account, but only for Tier 2 rides at Epcot. I figured once I used the anytime, all of them would open up, but the system forced me to use another tier 2 FP first. Pretty annoying!

I cannot get enough of your older son's facial expressions :) He is so enjoyable!

Thank you! He is such a ham!

It was definitely very frustrating in the moment!

Haha, I guess I have reached old lady status where a charming French boy has no effect on me. I was also very hungry and over the whole passport thing at that point so that might have had something to do with it

Wednesday, January 16 - Epcot (Part 3)

We finished our sprint around the World Showcase just in time to meet up with Fairy Godmother and her DH at Teppan Edo for dinner. Naturally, FG and I got to talking and I didn't take any pictures of the restaurant or meal. At the table were the six of us plus two other ladies, and one of them was a complainer - she had an issue with almost everything - her drink, the way her meat was cooked, her dessert, everything! It was actually pretty good entertainment for FG and I. The manager came out to talk to the lady at the end and I'm pretty sure she got her meal for free so maybe that was her plan all along.

Anyway, Teppan Edo was really fun! We've never taken the kids to a hibachi restaurant at home so they really enjoyed watching the food be made. DH ordered a sushi appetizer that he really enjoyed. I can't remember what everyone had, but I got the chicken and steak and thought it was good, but if I came back, I would get just the steak.

After we wrapped up our meal, the other lady at the table (friend of the complainer) stopped us and complimented us on how well-behaved the boys were, so that was nice to hear.

I forgot to include this in my last update, but I managed to get a FEA FP for 7:45 so after dinner we were staying in the park and FG and her DH decided to head to the Boardwalk to check in with some of her friends over there.

We took some PP pictures in Japan and Morocco - they had this lantern shot in Morocco that was really pretty.

It was after 8:00 at this point, so we headed over to Norway to use our FP.

I can't find my ride picture, but I know the boys were annoyed because we got splashed.

(obligatory silly hat picture)

We had dropped off our stroller at the stroller parking outside of Norway parked against the railing facing the lake, which just happened to be a great view for Illuminations, so we decided to just stay there for the show and hung out there for about 20 minutes. Then, just as a show was starting this family ran up and the parents stood behind us but let their kids stand on the curb directly in front of my kids who were sitting in the stroller. I looked back at the parents to get their attention but they steadfastly ignored me so I guess they're fine with their kids being little brats. :confused3
My kids ended up standing on the curb next to them so they could see and it was fine, just really annoying to me.

Anyway, I love Illuminations and I'm really so sad that it's going away but I'm glad I get to see it one more time in August.

After Illuminations, we headed out to the buses, taking in the glowing sidewalks and SE in all her lit up glory along the way.

It wasn't long after that we were back in our room at the Wilderness Lodge - we have a PPO breakfast tomorrow so it was straight to bed!

Sounds like a nice dinner!

Love that lantern shot in Morocco and the family photo- SE looks so cool in the background!

Glad you got to see Illuminations (despite the bratty kids!)

I hadn't seen that lantern photo before. Very cool.

Sucks about the kids popping in front of yours at Illuminations. Some people have no sense of common courtesy.

Thank you, it was definitely a nice night at Epcot!

Oh, for the love of all things adorable!!! This is amazing.

Thank you!

I think I've only seen this lantern shot in Morocco a couple of other times. We weren't even looking for it, just wandering around while my DH was on a phone call and the PP girl was just standing there with no line so I had the kids do it, I thought it came out super cute!

Thursday, January 17 - Magic Kingdom (Part 1)

Today was the beginning of our last two days in the parks and I think we all woke up this morning feeling a little sad the trip was coming to an end. After our first trip I decided I don't like doing MK on the first or last day of a trip (first day is always feels kind of off, still trying to get my bearings, last day is sad) so that's why I sandwiched our two MK days in the middle of the trip.

This morning we had a PPO breakfast at Be Our Guest with an 8:05 ADR, so we were out of bed early, I think we were up by 6:30. I knew we'd need to get out quickly, so I made sure the park bag was ready to go and all our outfits were laid out before we went to bed.

We got out to the bus stop around 7:15 and there was this young couple and a few other families already waiting for a bus. A few minutes after we arrived, the girlfriend of the couple started panicking that they were going to miss their breakfast reservation and I guess called the front desk number, who told her that buses start running an hour before the parks open. She freaked out and pulled her boyfriend away to call an Uber. From being on the boards, I knew the buses run much earlier than that and told MH not to worry, and even though there was nothing showing on the boards, a bus to the MK pulled up literally less than a minute after the couple walked away.

At this time of the morning, there was no line for security and we were directed to the very left side of the tapstiles, where we were given a little map of the path to take to get to BOG and were let into the park. Walking back to BOG through a virtually empty park was totally worth the hassle of getting this ADR and waking up early. 10/10 would recommend.

We had preordered our breakfast, so we were able to walk right up to the cashier to use our meal plan credits, and were then let in to the dining room. We were one of the first ones in so we had our pick of tables, the boys wanted to sit in the front of the ballroom to watch the snow.

To eat, I picked the open faced bacon & egg sandwich on a croissant, DH had the quiche, DS1 had the oatmeal and we ordered a Gaston's Feast for DS2, but DH took the sausage and potatoes from his plate since we knew he wouldn't eat those. We could have just gotten him the kid's bacon and eggs but hey, a QS credit is a QS credit, might as well get as much as we can out of it!

(you can see how much the restaurant filled up after we sat down!)

I really enjoyed this breakfast! Between our meals and the pastries, we were all full, everything tasted really good, I thought my sandwich was delicious. I also liked being able to refill our own drinks and take a coffee for the road also. :D

After a bathroom break and a few pictures, it was about 8:40 so we headed to get in line for 7DMT.

There were probably about 40 people in line ahead of us when we got out there. If we had eaten faster we probably could have been closer to the front of the line and been on the first train of the day, but it wasn't a big deal. They held us outside the queue, then around the time the welcome show started, they let us into the queue part of the way before there was another hold point, then when the park opened we were allowed the rest of the way through. We basically walked right on to the ride, so that also made the PPO breakfast totally worth it as well.

When we came out of the ride, the 7DMT area was a madhouse. DS2 was upset because he wanted to ride "I hope, I hope" again, but it was already up to a 45 minute wait and we had a FP for 9:40, so we decided to take advantage of the early hour and get some of the smaller attractions done.

First we went to Winnie the Pooh because I still remember the epic tantrum DS1 threw on our 2016 trip because we had a FP and he didn't get to play with any of the things in the queue. So we let them play around for a few minutes and then got in line, I'm sure we waited no more than five minutes.

(blurry honey pot picture for proof)

Next, since the kids loved it so much on our first MK day, we headed down to the Barnstormer. And then rode it four times in a row. :sad2:

(he was so happy so I guess it was worth it)

After our fourth ride, the queue was getting a little backed up so we told the kids we were calling it quits on that ride. We saw Donald and Goofy meeting outside - I think they must have been changing the inside Minnie meet to Pluto. They had short lines too, so we stopped in to say hello. They were meeting together and being extra silly, so we had a lot of fun.

It was time to head back for our 7DMT FP so we convinced him to put it away so we could go ride "I hope, I hope" again.

I'm going to stop here so I can look for the ride pictures on my other computer and hopefully have some in the next post!

SOunds like a great time being there PPO! I'm glad you enjoyed breakfast and got on SDMT so quickly!

4 times on the Barnstormer- WOW!

Great pics with Goofy & Donald together!

We could have just gotten him the kid's bacon and eggs but hey, a QS credit is a QS credit, might as well get as much as we can out of it!

Yup! The only time we got QS kids meals on the DDP was if the item wasn't on the adult menu.

I also liked being able to refill our own drinks and take a coffee for the road also. :D

Agreed. Especially since I needed more coffee than normal with the early wake up.

so we decided to take advantage of the early hour and get some of the smaller attractions done.

I think this is such a huge benefit of the PPO. Not only do you get the super short 7dmt ride, but you can move on to other lower priorities while everyone else is still in line for that or Peter pan.

Thursday, January 17 - Magic Kingdom (Part 2)

Well, I lied about looking for the ride pictures. If I find them another day, I might pop them in later, but I really wanted to work on this update because I just couldn't wait to share the rest of this morning!

I last left off as we were about to use our 9:40 FP for 7DMT. Lack of photographic proof aside, we had a lovely ride on our mine train. We hi-hoed, narrowly escaped the witch, and endured yet another fit from DS2 who just wants to ride "I hope, I hope" all day, and can't wrap his tiny brain around WHY we can't just stay in our seats and go around again.

Sorry kid, them's the breaks.

Our next FP was for Space Mountain at 10:45, but at some point I had received a notification that it was temporarily closed and the FP had been converted to an anytime FP for anything except 7DMT, so we had some free time to fill.

We found ourselves at the entrance to Enchated Tales with Belle and the SB wait was only at 15 minutes, so we got in line. This was a new one for all of us - we had skipped it on our last trip, and I only had a vague idea of the attraction, but I knew it was some kind of show.

I took this picture so I could always remember fussing at my children in every.single.line to just stop climbing on everything.

You can totally see the Beast's castle from Belle's front door - it's a wonder she never noticed it.

I love that the queue takes you through Belle's house, it's so neat.

My kids are 4 and 6 in this picture - are they super tall or is Belle super short?
🤔

(The correct answer is my kids are very tall - the older one is in 1st grade and the average height of a 4th grader)

We went through the magic mirror and I knew some kids would be picked for roles, but I was so surprised when they picked DS1 to be the Beast!

DS2 was offered the chance to be in the show, but he wanted no part of it.

The Beast is basically the star of this show, honestly ;) The PP photographer got lots of great shots of my boy and Belle.

😍😍

Next, we headed over to SM since it was running again and used our anytime FP, which is the same thing that approximately 20,000 people thought at the same time because that FP line was LONG, let me tell you. Once we scanned through, it was a pretty quick walk through a good portion of the queue, so it was a little deceptive.

This was a new ride for everyone but me and the kids were a little nervous, but ended up having a fun time! DS1 says Space Mountain is his second favorite ride at Disney (FOP is his first, because he is now a true connoisseur of theme park rides)
