I'm not grumpy I'm just surrounded by people who are too happy. Alaska cruise August 20th 2018

I'm back. I got all depressed as there wasn't a holiday planned and someone working out how much we spent and saying no holiday in 19. But he got a new job and money isn't too much of an issue. So kids and I are going to see the mouse in mouse world in August. As I've started a pre trip thing thought I'd better finish this.

Day 5. Saturday 25 August.. Ketchikan.

Today we had breakfast in cabanas. Oh has been going there for his breakfast after me and the kids leave for our excursions. We watched us coming into port and docking in the berth. It really is right in the centre of town. We are on a temperat rainforest walk this afternoon, in theory all 4 of us .. this is the one OH wanted. But, he has an infected bite on his leg and on antibiotics and no walking. So it is just the 3 of us again.

After breakfast we grab our bags and head out for coffee and WiFi. We find both and call my big sister via messenger and sing happy birthday again. (We are gougo to be away for her birthday this year too, in Disney). Then a and I bought a picture and z and OH got some salmon.

Then back to the boat for lunch. It was fast food and zach was back in the edge.

Then the 3 of us made a dash along the pier for meet our tour for the afternoon. This time a minibus to the wildlife sanctuary. It was about 10/15 mins out of town. We walked around a small edge of the Tonga national park. We saw 2 black bears and bald eagles. All pretty amazing.1020533-1958x1469.jpgBear claws

Not bear

More not bears

Highly recommend this. The walk wasn't taxing at all and the scenery and wildlife was amazing.

We got dropped back at the boat and I walked the kids into the boat... And I walked off again to have a little walk round on my own. Wandered around creek street. Then back to the boat. Sat on deck 4 in the attrium to read a book on my own. Amelia found me. So I wasn't on my own and I didn't get to read.

Then back to the room for some quiet before dinner. It was Tritons and lobster night. I don't particularly like lobster so had white onion soup which was lovely followed by halibut was was wonderfully fresh but a bit overdone. The chocolate lava cake was yummy.

Kids left and I went with our tablemates to listen to the piano playing Broadway hits. I was still in bed by 10.30. I slept well though the boat was rocking.

Next up. A day at sea and my notes run out so I might start making things up...

Day 6 Sunday 26th August. The one where it is the last day at sea and my notes run out so I might start making things up...

My notes say:

We woke up late (clocks forward an hour). Breakfast at Cabanas.

2 in edge, then 2 in pool watching frozen whilst OH and I froze by the poolside, writing this and watching frozen. A was in the room having some quality time their n her own in the arm, a and I watched the diaper dash first.

A had pizza for lunch. oH and I are going to Cabanas for lunch at 1pm.

I have a full afternoon planned going on tours of the boat and watching magicians.

The view is amazing, again, but a bit chilly on deck.

And here ends my notes.

I didn't make the tour. I did sit and watch the coast go by in the cove cafe, under a blanket.IMG_20180826_164145449_HDR-1229x1638.jpg
If you remember on the way out we had fog so this was lovely.

At some point A and I managed to hit the the shop and she managed to pursuade me to buy some pins. We saw, and bought some grumpy ones ..IMG_20180826_135005220-1638x1229.jpg
And somehow one of them reminded us of OH. It is now one of the pins she will not trade as it reminds her of the holiday. And of course became a title for a report too....

I think we did some pin trading, but it might have been another evening. We did make it to the magician who was really good. OH may have got grumpy as we weren't there as early as him as we got stuck looking at things.. we still saw all the show. Our last dinner must have been at ap. Honestly can't remember what I ate. Packing was done but we decided to carry our cases off ourselves so didn't put the them outside. I think I spoke to guest services about leaving luggage at the port. They said there was a booth when you got through. We were slightly worried as our flight wasn't till late but our pick up for the airport was in the morning. So first job when I got a phone signal in the morning was to talk to them to put the pickup back to 4.

It was a lazy day aboard the ship. I should/could have done so much more but it was nice to just watch the world go by, I even sat with the OH for a bit!!!

Day 7 (and 8) monday 27th August. The one where we are sad and have to go home.

So when we woke up we were docked back in Vancouver. So had breakfast, probably in Cabanas .I phoned the car place and they said no problem to pick us up at 4. And we walked off the boat carrying our suitcases. We walked straight through everything and asked where to leave the luggage... The pointed us too the place and for a small fee they took it all and delivered it to the airport for us. So we were free for another day in Vancouver. We decided to make our way back to Granville market for a browse and lunch. I took lots of photos...1020649-1958x1469.jpg IMG_20180827_115052496-1024x768.jpg IMG_20180827_115636471-768x1024.jpg
We had some most amazing Donuts.. really really good.IMG_20180827_123827062-1024x768.jpg IMG_20180827_124530757_HDR-1024x768.jpg

Worth going to just for Donuts. We did save some and ate them waiting for luggage at Heathrow the next morning and the were still awesome.

We then water taxied and walked back to the port and watched the barding of the next cruise out. IMG_20180827_150630183_HDR-768x1024.jpg

Then the car came and we were driven away.

The flight home and was uneventful and overnight. I got a little sleep sitting between the kids. OH sat the other side of the aisle . The car was waiting for us back at terminal 2. I drove us back to Northamptonshire, I think it took about 2 hours. We collapsed with tiredness.

OH is never going on a cruise again. He is never doing Disney again. After that much money we weren't going on holiday in 1019.

But... I've just started my pre trip report. Eekk ... So the kids an I are leaving the grumpy one at home and we are off to visit the mouse in his world in August for 11 nights. It will be hot and the flights aren't direct and we are staying in a value resort but I don't care cause seeing Mickey makes me happy.

Those doughnuts look amazing! I think you're smart to just take a trip with you and the kids if OH isn't into the theme parks. My DH is also not a fan of Disney but I'm hoping this cruise turns him around. Even so, I'm already looking into booking a trip to Universal without him. He doesn't like theme parks/cruises because he thinks they are too commercialized and are manufactured fun. But we have young kids and Disney is just so wonderfully kid-friendly.

The Donuts really were that good. And disney is all commercialised but they do it so well, half of what I love is the about it is the organisation the rest is the magic. I didn't go till I was in my 20s... And we didn't take the kids until they were 8 and 10 as we wanted them to remember it all and it is a long haul flight so didn't think they could sit still long enough till then. They love Disney too. If the go through a phase when they are too old I'll just have to go on my own .
