How windy does it have to be to not enter at Grand Cayman

There’s also the problem associated with tendering. If it’s too dangerous for the tenders to be used, since guests have to use a gangway between the ship and the tenders, they’ll skip it.

has as much to do with the DIRECTION of wind and seas as the strength. The anchorage is "open" which means it is not a protected area ... there is no natural or man made structure to protect the anchorage from the seas. Where there is no natural or manmade 'protected harbor' the port is referred to as an open roadstead ....

When wind and seas are out of the west at GC they blow directly into the anchorage (and 7 mile beach) and in these conditions tendering can become unsafe. IME this occurs most often in the mid Jan thru Mar timeframe ... not everyday but in this period it is not uncommon. Happens much less frequently in summer and fall.

When wind and seas are out of the east the anchorage is protected by the land ....

On one of our port stops in Grand Caymen we went to the opposite side of the island. We anchored there, tendered and were bussed to the area that we usually tender to. It was great because we got a narrated guided tour on the bus ride coming and going. A free mini excursion!

Last January we missed Grand Cayman, but we sailed past to see what we were missing .... the waves were going over the docks on shore. That didn't look too safe! And on the ship it didn't seem to be that windy or "rocky rolly"

Deeber on the fantasy we missed it. Didn’t bothered me, been there done that a few times. Bad for the newbies. This wasn’t DCL call, no ship was allowed to be there that day. Safety first as it should be
