Food allergies and the DDP

So we went ahead and got the DDP for our May trip. My son has multiple food allergies (dairy, gluten, soy) and sometimes requires something off the child's menu to be prepared.... What I'm wondering is will this work with the DDP?? It never dawned on me before to worry about it, but now that I have all my ADR's booked and my itinerary made (in spreadsheet form no less! Thaks to that overplanaholic thread!) I'm starting to worry about this!

If it's not one thing, it's another..... IS IT MAY YET?

:cool1:

I'm wondering this as well, I have numerous allergies and have always done fine at restaurants but am really limited esp with desserts. I've got anaphylactic egg allergies, banana, tree/peanuts, pineapple/other fruit allergies.

Anyone have experience using the DDP with their food allergy issues?

My daughter is allergic to peanuts. We had it noted on all our ADR's and we also contacted the food allergy specialist at WDW, Brenda. She said she will notify all the chefs at the resturaunts and we can expect a personal visit at each TS to tell us the safe items for our daughter. We will be taken around each buffet as well and told the "safe" items. If there is nothing safe, they will make her something at no additional cost to us above the DDP. I was super impressed with Brenda!! She even emailed me a list of snack cart/CS menu's and common allergy ingredients for all. Here is her email address.

Brenda rules. She is my ambassador of pixie dust. :wizard:

Her number is 407-824-5967 . I am so sending her a thank you card! :thumbsup2

Yeah Brenda is awesome, we've worked with her many times.

My concern is that they usually don't have much for in terms of dessert, so when I'm paying for it OOP it doesn't bother me so much, I am pretty much used to it.

With the DDP, I feel that it should be something that they should accomodate, esp since I always note it on my ADRs and also follow up with an email to Brenda and she forwards it on to those in other areas, since she works with the MK mostly.

It is not like I am planning on gorging myself, but as I said on another thread, I'd like to enjoy dessert at least a couple of times over the 9 days we'll be there.

For my son's b-day dinner the chef at LTT is making him a special cake that he can eat. My son is allergic to dairy, soy and gluten, so I can't wait to taste that cake! I'm such a bad baker even with regular ingredients, so it'll be nice to see that gluten free cake CAN taste good. :lmao:

This will be our 1st WDW with the plan, and our 2nd trip with food allergies (milk and egg.) DD's allergies aren't as severe as they were, and I don't have to to be as strict with them myself (she is breast feed so I have to follow the allergy diet too.) However since she doens't nurse as much I can let some things slide. I still want dessert. All I had last trip was soy or rice cream. Nothing else the whole time. One evening in epcot the only thing I could find at all for a snack that was safe was the very boring dry pretzels in the cart at Germany.

While I am on the plan and would like dessert, DD is under 2 years old and isn't on the plan at all.

I would love that snack list. I hated having to look ahead of time. I mentioned the allergy on the ADRs, but I don't know how big of a fuss I am going to make over it for myself. I should have anything with dairy or eggs in major amounts, but she seems ok when I have trace amounts.

I tried to email her at that address. It bounced back. I would love a list of safe snacks (especailly at Epcot WS.) :teeth:

We did free dining last fall. My daughter and I are gluten intolant. My mother is gluten, chocolate and peppers intolerant. Dessert at CS in the parks kind of sucked. Grapes - lots of grapes. CS at POP was better - there was ice cream, fruit bars, gluten free donuts and cookies, etc. Not all of it tasted good.. but they really made a good showing. Dessert at TS locations was usually pretty good, although I got tired of creme brulee. I'm sure I could have called in advance and arranged things, but I didn't.

Note that (at least as of last fall) children under 3 *can* be added to the dining plan. You have to buy them park tickets (we got everyone 1 day base tickets and upgraded later) and they register them on the room as 3. I did that for my daughter's allergies and it made it much easier. I won't eat those awful gluten free pancakes or waffles - but she will! It also made it easier (and much cheaper) to get her pizza/mac&cheese/etc that she found palatable while I ate bunless cheeseburgers with carrot sticks and more grapes.
