Do these ever pop up for the Dream or Fantasy? If so when should I start looking?

I've been off a week and I'm itching to go again. I promised a family member in Florida (no where close to Port Canaveral but it's still an excuse) to bring my daughter for a visit and thought I might sneak in a cruise while she's there.

Have you tried checking the discount thread? You can take a look at what’s been offered in the past, which may or may not indicate what would be offered in the future. But, it’s a starting point

Thank you! I didn't even know it was a thing. Also, do you know how I prove my spouse works for Department of Defense?

This is per the DCL website:
"Active and retired members (or spouse) of the U.S. military must provide valid identification at time of check-in."

Your best bet may be to call and verify so you know for certain what is acceptable

If you sail with your spouse, he can provide CAC and you're GTG. If you're a military dependant, your DEERS card is sufficient and if you're a reservist, technically your orders (or a photocopy) are sufficient. Retirees are the same - blue reitrement card for the member & DEERS card for the dependant.

My wife hasn't tried to sail without me, so I don't know how it would work as she has not paperwork that states my employment (past or present). Will the DoD member be traveling with you? If so, their CAC is sufficient (I know, as I had to turn around to go get mine on one of our MTO cruises :rolleyes1).

I'm trying to get him to travel with me on a short cruise to give it a try but I doubt he'll go. I'll call DCL and see what they say.

So the person I just spoke with said for DoD the person employed has to sail. I feel like if I called back I'd get a different answer though as it sounded because they looked up the military rate while we were on the phone. Sigh. I'll just look at the Florida residency rates this time and pretend I'm not eligible for the other unless we sail in December when I might just manage to convince him.

It does say DoD, and includes spouses, but also says you have to present ID. Do spouses of civilian employees of the DoD have IDs?

Military Status

To take advantage of Military rates, proof of military status must be provided at time of check-in. Special Military rates are available to all retired and active U.S. Military personnel (or spouse), including:

  • U.S. Air Force
  • U.S. Army
  • U.S. Marines
  • U.S Navy
  • U.S. Coast Guard
  • U.S. National Guard
  • U.S. Army Reserve
  • U.S. Department of Defense
This offer is limited to a maximum of one stateroom per military member (or spouse), per sailing. A U.S. Military service member (or spouse) is required to sail to take advantage of this offer.

Proof of Military ID is required.

Active members (or spouse) of the U.S. National Guard or the U.S. Army Reserve must also show active duty orders dated as of January 1st of the previous year.

I strongly doubt that you would get a different answer if you called back. The issue is proving employment. I'm both military reserves and DOD civilian. My wife has access to the local base because of her being a military spouse and having her own Military ID card. She would NOT be allowed on the base as the spouse of a DOD civilian employee unless escorted. It keeps things nice and simple for Disney to offer a nice last minute discount to military (and DOD) by having you prove who you are by someone on the cruise having a Common Access Card or dependent ID. It would most likely turn into an administrative nightmare for them to try to prove someone is a DOD spouse and not just a friend, etc.

Sorry, but I have to agree with @Rob1872. I'm always asked to provide the ol' CAC card...

I know, I'm lame but i check every day. Literally. Have a icon bookmark on Chrome and everything.

Not lame at all. I want to go everyday so I don't blame you. My only question now is should I try for late August or December? December would be better because the ship would be decorated so prettily I think, but the deal will probably be better in August. Why can't I just be super rich and cruise all the time? LOL

We've done 4 Merrytime cruises and they're our favorite. The kids are too old to be pulled out of school any longer, and the Christmas break prices are ridiculous, so I think we're done with those for a while. If we could still go on a Merrytime, we'd be there in a heartbeat. If it's an MTO cruise, the price will be pretty good either way. However, the MTOs that'll be available in Dec will be in the early part of the month (Dec 2 or the like). If that fits your schedule...

I'd happily pull her out December 2. That gives me hope.
