FL Discount...buy in advance?

My in-laws (who are FL residents) are purchasing tickets for themselves and 3 of the grandchildren in March. However, 1 grandchild will not be needing their ticket until a few months later. Will they be able to go ahead and buy and activate that extra ticket in March when they buy everyone else's and just hang on to it until he goes to WDW later in the year?

The Florida discount is only valid on 3 and 4-day tickets. Single day tickets vary based on date, an unused ticket can be traded in for a different date; but the catch is no refunded is given if downgrading but the difference is charged if upgrading.

Are the grandchildren Florida residents? Anyone over 18 will need to show proof of residency.

They should probably only buy tickets for everyone who will be there. We are only privileged to buy 3 or 4 day tickets at a discount and they expire typically the week you are using them. Maybe they could purchase that grandchild's ticket when he needs it later in the year. The special deal we have right now expires in June, but perhaps another ticket deal will open up when that one closes. Even if it doesn't, the rate on FL resident tickets daily isn't bad at all.

What are the residency requirements? We now own a condo but still have NJ licenses.

I pulled this from Google: All adults who buy Florida residency park tickets will have to prove their Florida residency at the park entrance when they go to activate their ticket or pass. Accepted forms of proof include a valid Florida driver's license, a valid Florida state-issued ID with a Florida address, or a valid Florida-based military ID.

However, since you still hold your NJ licenses, this is also acceptable according to Disney:
If you don't have one of the above forms of ID you must show one of the following- dated in the past 2 months evidencing a Florida residential address, along with a corresponding photo ID (passport, driver's license, state ID card.)

  • Proof of current mortgage (must be current mortgage statement from within the past 2 months.)
  • Homeowners insurance policy
  • Current automobile registration, insurance policy or bill
  • Current utility bill (bills can not be more than 2 months old and P.O. Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency)
  • Mail from financial institutions (checking, savings, or investmentaccount statements)
  • Mail from city, state or county government agencies
