February at the Fort

I saw a regular Falcon launch (contrail) while I was on the Fort dock waiting for the boat to MK in 2016...I'm a space-nerd (life-long) and will definitely be on the look out tomorrow...thanks for the reminder.

Some Fort pics from today:
Discovery Island...sad shape:

If you look closely, you can see the old netting of the aviary area:

According to the CM on the boat to MK, Disney just walked away from the place, leaving everything behind and now time is taking its toll. To me it looks like big trees in the middle of the island have gone down in the last few years. Here's what's left of the shipwreck area.

uh oh, it's the H2O popo

A CM told me that the last hurricane toppled those trees on the island. I noticed that you can view the fireworks much better from the beach now that the trees are down.

Ah, to see blue skies and green grass!!! We are supposed to get 5-8" of the white stuff tonight we leave in 17 days

Tinkerjo, we hope your snow flies another direction away from you. We will be there on the 24th and look forward to finding you to say hi. This is nearing the time we start looking for late winter snow storms, and ice as we travel southward. Safe travels,. We will be in a premium loop. We will have our cows out as you see in our avatar.

Made my fast passes last night. This quick trip will be all about the parks. Will miss enjoying the Fort itself, but we will be back for a week in March to do that.

The snow did travel away!! We got about 1/2 inch of ice but hardly any snow. Almost as bad but hey, what's a girl to do?? We will definitely look for the cheesehead cows!!! Safe travels to you as well. We also check in on the 24th so I'm sure we will find you. I don't have anything fancy or special for my site....just tents lol

We meet up with a couple of friends and took them on the resort monorail tour. They had not been to WADE since 1984. We had lunch at Captain Cook's. I had Asian noodles with vegetables and shrimp. It was very good. Had dinner at TE. The chicken was excellent...better than I remember. I am stuffed. Another beautiful day.IMG_20180207_124841162~2.jpg IMG_20180207_130000681~2.jpg IMG_20180207_133255044_HDR~2.jpg

Yesterday DH and I relaxed all day at the Fort until time to pick up DDs at airport.
This morning we woke to the clip clop of a big horse.

We just left the pool and took the boat to Wilderness Lodge to stop at Gyser Point. I told DDs about a drink I read about on DDR and wanted to try, the Cascade Sangria Cocktail. We all got one.IMG9501091~2.jpg IMG9501201.jpg IMG9501221~2.jpg

Well our short weekend stay is over. Love that we live close enough to do that. It was short, but still great. I booked and paid for a full hook up but when we checked in they gave us a premium. No arguments here, as we never would pay premium prices. Got site 636, at first I was like, UHGGG, as that loop (which isn't really a loop, IMO) is one we said we would never like to stay in. It has almost no shade and the sites are very close to each other and no real close comfort station. But for only two nights and at the price of a FHU, we really didn't care. We lucked out, it was the last site on the outside so it was nice and secluded with some shade. I can see the appeal of this loop for those wanting to go to the movie area more than once. Very short walk over the bridge and you are right there. Also very convenient to the food truck.
We went to the MK Friday night, it was crazy busy! There was a cheerleading championship competition going on and there were teenage girls everywhere. We watched the show on the castle, which was really cool, rode our three fast pass rides and then headed back to camp. The boat ride back to the camp took longer than usual as we got stuck behind the boat parade. Saturday we got up early, as we always do, took our coffee and went to see the Fort wake up. Favorite time of day here. After that we decided to skip cooking breakfast and just head over to the studios before it got busy and ride RnR and ToT. It was perfect, only a 20 minute wait for both. Went back to camp for lunch and waited for DS to drive over and then we headed to AK. Fast Passes for Everest and Dinosaur, then dinner at the Flame Tree. If you have never had their baked mac and cheese with pulled pork, it is awesome. Back to camp for some loopin then to bed. This morning took our morning ride and then packed up. I didn't take a lot of pictures this trip, will save that for when we are there for a week next month.
