Elephant In the Room... But...

I was just wondering this the other day. I had noticed that there is someone who often posts negative things about DCL and the person hasn't even taken a DCL cruise yet. This person has a countdown ticker and according to it, this person still has several months until the person takes his/her first cruise on DCL. Maybe they think they can convince everyone to stop taking Disney cruises:rotfl2::rotfl: But I agree doesn't make much sense, but I sometimes wonder if they work for the competition????

I can see why people talk about other cruise lines here. Some people started out on Disney but are considering other options as the prices have skyrocketed. Other people started on other cruise lines but are considering cruising on Disney. I think there is benefit for both groups to post here and share experiences. We've only cruised Disney and are gold CC members, but I've booked our first non-Disney cruise. What I've read from other Disboards posters here about other cruise lines helped me make the decision to branch out. Once I've cruised with another line, if I feel that experience might be helpful to a topic here on the DIS, I will post about it.

As for why some people that clearly hate Disney post here, short answer is some people just thrive on negativity. But there are times when I see someone being accused of hating on Disney and really they are just posting a truthful, less than stellar experience with Disney. Disney is not infallible and some people seem to believe that pointing out any flaws makes that poster a Disney hater.

Oooohhh, I hadn't thought of that angle. Maybe they DO work for the competition!?! If other cruise lines are hiring trolls to complain about their competitors, what does that say about them???

I agree with everything you said. I think there is nothing wrong with honest comparison opinions. I am referencing those that just come on here to bash DCL and those who are loyal to DCL. No, Disney's not perfect and people should be allowed to share all their experiences with Disney, good and bad.

I was unfortunately born an Eeyore. A little black rain cloud tends to follow me. But on DCL I get magic and hugs and feel like Pooh and Tigger rolled into one. On my 14 night WBPC cruise I got so many hugs and I love you's that my heart is still over filled. I really try to avoid the trolls here because life has enough to bring me down.

Some people like to start fights. Some people like to stir pots. Some people never stopped being playground bullies.

Agree with first paragraph totally. Regarding why people complain about aspects of a Disney cruise, maybe they are hoping that someone at DCL will be reading these posts and that by pointing out the negatives, those aspects might be changed. I love to cruise Disney but I am appalled at the way their prices are skyrocketing, I hate their coffee and I am not happy about the decrease in amenities that we have seen over the years. Will that make me stop cruising Disney? Maybe but again, maybe not. Right now I am exploring rail tours. Canada has some pretty cool ones for about the price of a Disney cruise. However, there will be no cast members on a rail tour and the Disney cast members are, to me, the best part of a Disney cruise.

Smiles,
Kate

The reason the prices are skyrocketing is because someone is willing to pay that amount. It is simple supply and demand. If the demand wasn't high, prices wouldn't be either...

I agree with all the posts. If there is a good comparison between another cruise line and DCL, I enjoy reading about it. What gets me are all the picky eater food critics that blast the food on DCL. I absolutely enjoy a vast majority of the varieties available on the ship. Thank their lucky stars I'm not the chef, they'd get spaghetti every night.

I don't look to complain about DCL (and really, I probably haven't), but the posts come through when I use the "New Posts" button, which is my preferred way to read the boards here. I might find myself wanting to contribute to a thread, even though they have priced me out.

People who have been priced out of the DCL product are probably people who are loyal to the brand. This is the best place for them to have a "forum" to express that. Where else would they go where it would be seen, even if there is a small chance it will make a difference. I don't mind saying I am only willing to pay DCL prices when we have a younger grandchild to take. Otherwise our cruise dollars go elsewhere.

these are sometimes called "discussion boards"

to have a discussion it helps to have multiple points of view ......

^^^THIS^^^

We are all here to share our experiences and opinions. We are all different people so it would make sense we all don't think the same. That is what keeps these boards going...discussion! As long as things are said in a polite way, according to the rules of the forums, anything related to DCL can be posted on this board whether its positive or negative.

1000% agree

we cruised DCL when our kids were 'kids' ... we'd been cruising B4 this time .... and continued after this time

we might return to DCL for a grand kids trip

but TODAY ... for similar money ... well I'll just mention our last trip on Viking Ocean .... 2 weeks England / Scotland / Norway

no casino ..... no kids ...... no upcharge for the specialty restaurants ..... came in at close to DCL prices . . .

Agreed, but there are discussions and there are those that state their opinion as fact and anyone who disagrees is called names and/or gets bashed. I think some people on here really hate Disney and seem to post here just to argue with those that don't hate Disney. There are also threads on here that only speak about other cruise lines. It always starts as a comparison thread, but now it's just a thread for folks to talk ONLY about the other cruise lines.

I dont think there are many people in the world who go out their way to hunt down a message board, make an account and then lie in wait to troll it. To find dis you have to know about Disney and look for it or know someone who points you in this direction.

Some people are naturally more negative (yes, even about disney).
Some people have a bad experience and want to vent - that's human nature.
Some people are upset they've been priced out.
Some people were priced out already and want to give hope to others that even though it might be the end of Disney (for now) it's not the end of the world and you'll get through it.
Some people share their experiences and other people interpret them in a different way to how they were intended.

For some people all this might make them want to branch out.
For others is might make them want to stay with Disney forever.

I work for the 'opposition' (definitely not paid by them to troll the internet lol). But I worked at Disney for longer. I took a bit of a break from these boards but I'm planning a couple of Disney trips and I always come back here because, even though i never intend on going on a Disney cruise (you couldn't pay me (not trolling, just being honest)), it fascinates me. I like hearing about the changes. I like hearing how people think Disney is so different, but in reality, from my experience, not so much. I like hearing the good and the bad. Disney started my love of the ocean and I'm obsessed with travel and ship life.

Yes, there are threads (well only really one) about other cruise lines, why is that not ok? Sure its Disney board, but it's pretty obvious and easy to avoid.

I mean, there are also those that get totally bashed if they dare say they didnt have a good experience on Disney or it wasnt what they expected. Disney die hard tell them they're wrong and try and tell them it's their fault. It happens both ways...

I am a huge DCL advocate and sail on them whenever I can, but I do not hesitate to bemoan when I think their pricing has gotten out of control!!! I think they need to stay in touch with the "regulars" and know that people have a certain point where they just can't sing the "yay Disney" song when it costs $15,000 to go on a sailing in an inside stateroom.
